Maybe the reason that certain characters don’t use Chaos Control as frequently as someone like Shadow is based on their personality. Shadow uses Chaos Control often because he was created with the aid of the emeralds, so maybe it’s more difficult for others that don’t have the same genetic link to them. In Sonic’s case, he’s the embodiment of chaos. He does what he wants, stops threats when they arrive (never really pursues them when they’re not attacking, tho), and sometimes causes the mess himself. He’s essentially uncontrollable. Chaos Control, which gives it’s user a certain level of power over typically uncontrolled forces, would probably take more of a toll on someone like Sonic who isn’t used to having things under control. Loved this video, you did a great job diving deep into this weird plot MacGuffin.

I like how Archie interpreted this as Sonic being the living embodiment of this type of chaos, being the one character most exposed to chaos energy in the series. In that context, Chaos Control is quite literally probability field manipulation. It's actual godhood. Sonic the Hedgehog is literally just a westernized Dragon Ball.

I like this, for the last months i have actually been forming a very similar idea to this as my headcanon for how Chaos control works Even though i did it whitout philosophy and the comic in mind. How caos energy is a representation of actal chaos and it's endless posibilitys and caos control is using ones strong will and desires to Channel it into making the world as you want it to be, the idea that chaos is actually everywere and shadow is able to use it the chaos inside and around himself to chaos control to a degree whitout the need of chaos emeralds which are not special because of the kind of energy they have,but because of the amounts they poses, so much that they can allow anyone whit a strong enough will and/or desire to do chaos control regardless of wheter they are as naturally receptive to chaos as Shadow, Silver or Even Sonic.

I've had this EXACT head canon about chaos control and this is something I just made up in my head head but it perfectly aligns with what you're saying. Chaos control allows for manipulation of energy, space and time either by using ones own internal chaos energy or external sources like the chaos emeralds. Anyone can theoretically do anything with chaos enegy and no specific chaos ability is for a specific person (like how Sonic used chaos control to warp even though that's not his main power like Shadow). Depending on your personality and life experience or even your ancestry the will of different people manifest in different ways OR which type of Chaos Control you'll be best at using. For Sonic I always thought his will is free and wind like nature makes his chaos ability manifest more as speed. For Shadow his will comes from trauma from loosing Maria and his abilities are a manifestation of that. When Shadow was inside the pod he thought only if he could've teleported out of it, could release an attack to take out all the soldiers, stopped time to slow the bullet. This will manifests as chaos snap, chaos blast and chaos control respectively. This is just my idea on the topic 😅.

​​@@Ranni you see my only concern is that Ian flynn is writing the story of SXS generations now don't get me wrong I don't hate the guy I personally like his work in IDW and their potrayal of the characters but the only character he did not get right was shadow!! Remember metal virus saga he decided to completely remove him from the plot because he is too overpowered and must have sonic to handle this issue but the way he chose to do it was the most dumbest way possible!! He completely made him like an idiot and got corrupted..this was really out of character so I have my concerns that will he get shadow right this time? Yeah, I think from what I’ve gleaned online that apparently the chaos force is canon in the games, but I could be wrong...Either way the concept of the chaos force is pretty fascinating.

True, but i believe the idea of Caos energy being everywere in minor amounts and not just whitin the emeralds can, even If never stated or even fully intended, still be pull from the games as an explanation of many thing on the franchise, how Sonic was able to do chaos control whit a fake emerald that shouldn't have had enough energy to do it, Shadow being able to do chaos control whitout emeralds, and honestly anything You want, if caos energy can be use as a way to manifest ones desires into reality it could Even explain how Sonic and Shadow become stronger just by being themself, Sonic constant desire for speed, freedom and protecting his Friends and Shadow desire to be strong enough to protect the earth and rivary whit sonic could make it so, whitout them Even knowing it the caos energy around them is constantly working to make them stronger, the reason why when a group of people fight together each one of them is noticibly stronger than when fighting alone, their combine Will and desire for an outcome causing the caos around them to alter reality in small ways to make said outcome more likely.

Might be a bit outside wut is meant in the vid(might fit the prior shadow vid more tbh but this is a "better" opportunity for it to be seen I feel). Sonic & shadow R both supposed to be embodiments of chaos itself. Bein of those few in their universe that can use the emeralds to such an extent as they do. In shadows case he's the 1st to be shown usin chaos control specifically. Shadow has always been a character that's existence has largely been used to further other's goals or wishes. Gerald, Maria, BD, U.F./G.U.N etc etc. & was always strongly influenced by others in wut path he should take. Shadow IS chaos *CONTROLLED*. I think he takes over that control of his own self, path, purpose, & overall existence when the last move he uses at the end of his game parallels his 1st ever appearance. Usin Chaos Control. There R prob more character reasonins as to Y but thematically I think it's Y it fits "best" that shadow is the ONLY character who uses this ability regularly & not sonic or silver

Maybe Sega’s recognized the connection, and are trying to play into it?

Thanks! Yeah, it's fun and a lot of work to dive deep into these characters. And relating chaos control to Sonic's character, is the same with Shadow and other characters who use chaos control, it's all about them exerting their will to transform the environment.

Well, Sonic is one of the characters whit the strongest wills and sense of self in the Sonic Universe, we have seen this many times, so if caos control is enacting your will upon the world trough chaos energy, it just make sense he would be able to do things like using chaos control even whit the small amount of energy on a fake chaos emerald. It could also be interpret that his apreciation for freedom may be the reason he dosn't usually use caos control himself unless absolutly necesary, he may not like the idea of imposing his Will over reality itself while Shadow would have no problem whit doing so as long as it help whit his objective

I had this idea myself. I think you're only off by looking at Greek Mythos and not eastern spiritualism! They also have a concept of Chaos being a basis of all beings. I think you see this in a lot of JRPGs like Kingdom Hearts. Look at the Sonic CD "To live a life of power, you must have faith that what you believe is right, even if others tell you you're wrong. The first thing you must do to live a life of power is to find courage. You must be ready to reach beyond the boundaries of Time itself. And to do that, all you need is the will to take that first step...." Sonic & Knuckles "SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS. THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH CLOUDS. THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND RESTS. DON'T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON'T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU." Sonic & Sonic 2 "Don't just sit there and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, do it right away. Do it when you can. It's the only way to live a life without regrets." The lyrics of Live & Learn apply to this too. The songs about finding your way through dread. These ideas of self determination and creating your own reality are pretty core to the series, I think! Sonic Shuffle spoilers but it also has a story about duality. Negativity is all part of having dreams and achieving them. You've got this in NiGHTS into Dreams as well.

I want to make this other separate comment cus whole I really like this vid I wanna say usin the Comics & Sonic Battle doesn't work cus those aren't canon to the games at all. To be specific in Battle's case it's officially stated to be "semi-canon" meanin only certain elements R canon & I assume that only means the emerl backstory cus the "current day" stuff in that game has a TON of inconsistencies from Shadow's personality & the things he talks bout, to the geography & where characters like Amy, Cream, & knuckles live. Chaos is there for some reason even tho he should be dead. So many things that don't line up wit the Sonic Team games except for the emerl backstory so ye. If u want to speak on game shadow by ST don't use those
