Wait! Ned, the insurance salesman wasn't a former buddy of Phil. He was just insurance salesman who would latch on to any celebrity he could recognize to sell his stuff. His tactic was to claim he'd gone to school with them, the same tactic Phil used later on Nancy.

That would not surprise me at all. I probably missed that entirely... too busy looking at the philosophy to notice the repeated pattern... goes to show that every watch-through offers new insight and everybody picks up on different things. Great Job and thanks for watching. - de Janglez

Soooo, you know it was made into a musical, right? With a book by the original screenwriter and songs by Tim Minchin, and I think it’s even better than the film. They lean a bit more into the philosophical side of it (which Tim has said they saw as kind of a Buddhist thing), and give characters other than Phil a little more development. There are also songs called “Philandering” and “Philosophy”, which is clever and funny. The suicide attempts are brilliantly staged, as part of a rock ballad about never giving up hope. There’s even a car chase! The finale is absolutely lovely - it’s about finding peace, not any arbitrary victory, and was orchestrated beautifully by Chris Nightingale (Minchin and Nightingale are also the duo behind the music in the recent Netflix Matilda movie, fyi). It’s one of my favourite shows, and didn’t get the recognition it deserved because it hit Broadway the same season as Dear Evan Hanson. It’s being revived soon on the West End, so hopefully it will get another chance in the US too. If I can make it work, here’s a sample of a song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHLEkmOuh6d-i9k

I did know this and I am a Tim Minchin fan from before he wrote matilda I loved his comedy shows and his PROMS concert is unreal. I did not know the details about the show but I have been keeping my eye on revival news. I suppose I could have mentioned it but i really wanted to focus on this movie as the phenomenon it is and the philosophy that people would be familiar with. that being said i do think it would have benefited from more fleshed-out characters. I always think Rita could be more realized but the point of the story is to focus on Phil. Thanks for the awesome insight into the show. - de Janglez

@@CinemastersUltimateTimeline 🤩 Fantastic finding fellow Minchin fans in the wild! I actually help moderate a fan group on Facebook (where I met my now-husband, so I’m moving to australia instead of going to the UK to see the revival 😢), and crossed the pond twice to see his last tour both before and after the lockdowns! That show was recently released via Universal (I think). He describes it as a “logical philosophy lecture disguised as a cabaret show” 😆 Have you seen it? Or his tv series Upright? Argh I could go on all day about his work - it changed my entire life 😅 If I wasn’t already following you I would be now. People who appreciate him tend to be my kind of people 😆🥰

Omg. I’ve never thought of the groundhog as the “demon.” 😂😂😂 I’ve watched Groundhog Day since it came out (I’m old) and this is a great analysis.

I wish I could say that the groundhog being in control was my idea but I will take some credit for proposing that he is Nietzsche's Demon. Either way, it's a hilarious reading. - de Janglez

This is a great video. The quality of your content is incredible for having such a small subscriber count. You truly deserve more. One piece of constructive criticism: your scripting is tight and clean, but you could greatly improve the editing by working on the transitions between points. Right now, you just sort of finish one point, fad to black, and start the next section. It feels clunky. Some visual section markers paired with a musical cue would probably help alleviate this feeling to the viewer.

there are musical changes but I hear what you are saying about the VIsual sections. THanks for the criticism. I am always looking for ways to improve. - de Janglez
