Take a shot every time he says, "hermeneutical resource." The first movie was so great I was worried about the second one being as good as Cars 2. But I trust your judgement and will watch it. Maya Hawke does seem like a solid choice for Anxiety.

The reason corporations do not have a vice grip in Panem is because it is a dictatorship. In a dictatorship power must be concentrated in the dictator. Corporations offer an alternative power source and that is not tenable, because if power can be found in another way than through loyalty to the dictatorship, it will undermine the dictatorship (and the only point of a dictatorship is to keep itself in power). In the real world you can see this playing out in China (arguable a current dictatorship of one party but quickly becoming a dictatorship of one man) where any corporate leader who is deemed a threat is cut down - e.g. Jack Ma.
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline 2 ай бұрын
In historical Dictatorships we still see corporations exist, they just usually have a branch or department that is set up to communicate with the government. While the corporations are usually owned in part of whole by a party official if there is a way to make money a corporation would still exist. However, your point about consolidating power around a single person is well made and the reduction in competition reduces how well a corporation could thrive. Thanks for commenting. - de Janglez

Haven't watched this yet. But I'll always be floored by the author's decision to have Katniss fire the arrow at the new president. To me, it felt like a poignant criticism towards how the anger of the masses gets molded into settling into yet another status quo that's not in their favor.

Unpopular opinion but I actually really liked the shaky cam and just the first movie as a whole. It felt raw and chaotic like how Katniss would’ve experienced it. The other movies feel like I’m watching not alongside Katniss like in the books but as a member of the Capitol
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline

The shaky Cam does a great job of hiding the blood and brutality at the beginning of the games. It allows the blood bath to feel more gruesome without relying on blood or gore effects. This keeps the PG rating down but still makes the killings feel awful and hectic. I think it is used really effectively in that section, but there are other parts that I find irritating. However, that first movie is still the best in my opinion. Thanks for watching. - de Janglez

@@CinemastersUltimateTimeline My feelings exactly. The shakey-cam was great in the opening arena scene. But overused in a lot of other sections. The other movies toned it down, but were sometimes too slick.

@@CinemastersUltimateTimeline I disagree. The shaky cam is used in the most genius way I've seen in film history. It actually feels like you are there and that you are really going through this with, and as Katniss, unlike the films after which feel distant. Never in my life have I felt more terrified watching a film than when the District 12 reaping ceremony begins, and the camera movements genuinely makes you realise that this could actually really happen one day. It reminds you of the atrocities of the past (WW2 specifically) and that all of it could easily happen again. Not only is Suzanne trying to tell us that the lust for power is cyclical, but that the lust for destruction of human beings amongst our own species is also cyclical. Videos we see today of horrifying war crimes in places like Palestine and Ukraine are not shot in IMAX, nor are they perfectly stable. They are shaky, they are raw and they are shot in a way where sometimes we aren't even able to see who or what is being annihilated, but we know that something truly horrific is happening. I wish Gary Ross had been given the chance to complete the trilogy the way he had originally envisioned, as I 100% believe the film series would have gone down in history as astonishing masterpieces that truly depicted the absolute terror involved with war and the fight for power. Anyway. Just my opinion, lol
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline

I think the reason i have such visceral reaction against it is because shot composition and cinematography are such a huge part of the language and art of film. This is precisely the same reason you like the shaky cam though, as Ross is breaking artistic convention for a reason and it does change the experience and reaction. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion and insight. - de Janglez

But what would Carl Marx have to say about the Shoganate? I didn't know they put that much effort into the coaching of the actors. But I could tell the show was made with care. It felt real and in depth like the early seasons of Game of Thrones, which I know isn't history but it was so well crafted it felt real. What's your thesis going to be on?
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline 2 ай бұрын
I briefly skimmed Marx's thoughts on the feudal hierarchical system in the video on The Hunger Games. and yeah this show is so detail-oriented. like I said, check out those behind-the-scenes clips. Without getting into the weeds, my Thesis is on the ontology of musical works (songs) and how they exist. I am currently deciding whether to argue that music is a social practice (musicking) and therefore musical works must exist in adherence to the social practice they are connected to and understood to be a part of and cannot exist independently. OR to argue that the newly posited Musical Stage Theory on how musical works exist, should be strongly considered because it encompasses the pros of both perdurantism and artifactualism. I am not sure if that cleared anything up but thank you for taking an interest. and as always thank you for commenting and watching. - de Janglez

When I was younger I always thought, "Yeah Katniss saved the districts!" I never really realized that of course it's just going to keep going in cycles with the powerful on top. Intersting video. Marx's theories can only work, well, in theory. Humans are naturally greedy and always want to have what their neighbors have, and once they achieve this feat, they want more. It is a hunger that can never be satisfied. No matter which philosopher you want to build a state ideology on, you will always have your haves and your have-nots. Even in Scandinavia, countries that the modern American left romanticize as being happy jolly "socialist" utopias, there's still a ruling, untouchable class. Have you ever asked yourselves what "the workers owning the means of production" actually even means? However, I think the Hunger Games is more libertarian than communist. Katniss is self-sufficient and anti-state. Even at her young age, we see her cynicism towards this supposedly "egalitarian" governmen that Coin wanted to implement. I never see her decrying the idea of bring rich in and of itself. However, libertarianism is another ideology that can only work in theory. As much as we hate the idea of the staus quo and government, societies need laws to maintain order in society, and it also needs people to enforce the laws. This includes making sure that at least the majority of the population has a roof over its head and doesn't go hungry.
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline
@CinemastersUltimateTimeline 2 ай бұрын
Well said. I am not even sure if Marx knew what owning the means of production would look like. It was and still is a pretty radical idea. As for the story being Marxist, that is just my reading. We see what we want to see after all. I think exploring how Katniss as libertarian would be an interesting alternate point of view. Thanks for watching and commenting. - de Janglez

The 2 main themes are 'Even if people forget, man is still part of nature and needs it' and 'Kindness over Tradition' 2 things I feel are greatly needed these days. But the 'man is still part of nature' thing is going to be a tightrope walk. Don't want to accidentally end up supporting essential oils and sudoscience.
