I am not certain yet. I think that GW may get vexed at me if I do, but I am considering doing a narrative update - just not reading out all of their work. Although the rules are readily available on youtube, some people say that they can get vewy angwy if their lore is revealed. I did the blood of the phoenix as it was a gift from a listener, and to complete the tale as I had already done most of it, but I think I have to tread carefully in future. @baldermort4 жыл бұрын
MegaBlitzX VA a teeny bit of artistic license with that one. The ‘au’ at the end just struck me as more Latin sounding - which most of us associate with antiquity. So I thought it made them sound more steeped in history and older. As they are meant to be in the lore. It was a decision. I dong doubt it will be one I am made to regret, but I liked it and didn’t think anyone much would actually watch it. ;).
@baldermort4 жыл бұрын
‘Ai’ at the end. Not au. I hate my phone. Lol. :)

@@baldermort Interesting. Though Eldar naming is usually from Gaelic which even then had multiple pronunciations it's unclear. I'm still going by el'daree but yours definitely feels like it's should be pronounced and spelled as such.
@baldermort4 жыл бұрын
MegaBlitzX VA aha! A learned man. I know of the long-standing tradition of Eldar being equated to Gaelic. But have you ever tried to gain clarification on some of the pronunciations? It can be a task. I took an easy route out because it sounded good. I hope you’ll forgive the choice.
@johnfarscape4 жыл бұрын
Completely unrelated to the video but I value you experience on rules, while I was watching this I got into a conversation with someone who claims that Salamander space marines have a completely broken stratagem called self sacrafice. Apparantly if you play it on a charachter or unit the enemy can only target that charachter or unit unless another unit is closer even if its out of line of sight . . Basically the whole enemy army is unable to shoot anything if you put a charachter or unit nearer than anything else, supposedly its already been used in games, So what do you think, seems legit or not?
@baldermort4 жыл бұрын
Ok. I don’t really like being drawn on rules on KZbin - but here goes. It’s Cloud of Flies from the Chaos Codex. It IS powerful, but it’s 2 CP to activate, gives a bubble/aoe but only within 6 inches. It could be combined with Character shenanigans to be a real headache. But that is competitive scene stuff I don’t face much or play often. It’s also negated if your own army can move well. 8th is not perfect, but the emphasis on movement, flavour and speed of gaming - thus actually getting to those glory moments we all play for - is worth it. Yes, It’s a good stratagem. Yes it will probably get faqed. But it is Cloud of Flies. So just make sure your army always has an executioner element if you play at that level. You have to be able to delete threats. I hope that helps.
@johnfarscape4 жыл бұрын
@@baldermort Thanks, I think the Salamander one will get faqd as being able to be used on a charachter that "can only be targeted if it is the nearest unit" combined with the stratagems "can only target this unit unless another unit is closer" just doesn't make sence. Maybe it will be changed to non characters to make it more sensible, needs line of sight would also be good to stop someone putting it on a unit of scouts and sitting them behind a building halfway up the board. There is always someone that manages to find a way to break the game over an interpretation of wording.

Nothing wrong with a bit of friendly advice brother. But in this cased I utterly agree brother Ulysess, Nothing I could do about the Psychic Awakening debacle. I read straight from GW';s books on those things only. Glad they are over, as their repeated use of the same words in one sentence or paragraph were sometimes painful to try to read out.

So which phoenix has fallen inside the book?, because I read it and I cannot find any Phoenix falling. Yet GW declares: "A Phoenix will Rise, A Phoenix will fall” . Am I blind or GW advertises this book very badly? + where did you take the ending of your video from? (apart from the Dylan Thomas poem)
@baldermort4 жыл бұрын
Skywatcher Adept hi Slywatcher. I write my endings. I think only Ynnari does not have anything I write myself. I attempt to write in the style of GW. Anything after ‘end quote’ or before ‘to quote’ is generally my take on things. I have to agree that the advertising is off base. You could argue that Ahra is the fallen Phoenix. Jain Zar arising. You could also say that it is the Visarch. Or go with my take that it is the Phoenix of the Eldar race rising. Or you could just say ‘yep, GW’s advertising are running amok and have taken a slight brief and just chucked hyperbole at it to a criminal level. Lol. I’m just a fan myself. I honestly don’t see the correlation between the advertising and the reality. :).
@skywatcheradept4 жыл бұрын
@@baldermort Than you write great endings indeed. So little happens in this book, I think the small, unimportant Shadowspear box set had more goin' on than Phoenix Rising. The only big change is that Eldar are high on Psychic power from the Rift so exarchs got their new powers, but apart from that and some interesing snippets about Haemonculi Covens, it feels empty for me.
@baldermort4 жыл бұрын
Skywatcher Adept I flounder it underwhelming in many ways. But it’s a move forward and something different Eldar. I think the build your own obsessions and Craftworld traits could be added to the other narrative sections in the chapter approved issues to male a really fun campaign. Hi - love the narration- but the rising Phoenix is in “blood of the Phoenix” lore where Drazhar kills Jain Zar, she falls, then is resurrected as a true ynnari (she rises) and as a ynnari Phoenix lord is able to defeat and kill Drazhar in the rematch on zandros. Now Jain zar is a much more powerful Phoenix lord because she is a champion of both Khaine and Ynnead. It’s a great story, a little rushed in the box tbh, but it explains the marketing a lot.

Really good presentation and narration, as always. But, Yvraine and the Ynnari are truly a blemish on the Eldar lore. Everything the Eldar was, is and are have been destroyed, buried, retconned and vandalized in favour of Yvraine and her Rey (from starwars) like story line. Utter garbage. Your talens and passion for story telling are wasted on post gathering storm lore. 51:00 and forwards almost made me throw away my models. Damn, that was painful to listen to.
