Which situation do you think it would be most helpful for you? Restaurants Meetings One on Ones On the Computer Playing tennis Watching TV

I recently discovered that using the Roger On in the car is a game changer. I was on a road trip with my two sons and sitting in the back seat. It’s almost impossible to hear in this situation because of the road noise and the fact they are facing forward. Not the case with Roger on set between them on the center console. I could hear both of them clearly and was able to join in on the conversation.

Definitely Restaurants.

For me it would help a lot for meetings or restaurants or even check in for appointments. I do not hear the Speech with background sounds and most of the time I think it would help me a lot if they had a microphone right by them to pick up their speech and send it to my hearing aids and it helps to have more microphones and Amplification. Them having a microphone helps your hearing aids to pick up their speech and then I can amplify it but I need to be able to pick it up.
@pagzplay Жыл бұрын
So yes this is good for everything and watching TV. I keep it on full volume but TV volume is not amplified a lot so having a microphone by it would pick it up better and Bluetooth hearing Aids. My hearing aids would be able to pick up a lot more sound that way.
@pagzplay Жыл бұрын
And riding in a vehicle you are not able to hear people who are talking to you so I just let them talk but I am not Hearing anything but I think that a microphone would pick it up and amplify it more too.

I went to see Matthew Allsopp for a hearing test recently, which showed I had some hearing loss since my test last year. He tried to talk me into trying out the Phonak Roger On. I was sceptical, but I have now plugged it into my TV, and miraculously I can now hear what the actors are saying without Closed Captions. Also, I tried it out in an extremely noisy restaurant today. My luncheon date seated opposite me wore the Roger On around her neck, and I could hear everything she said - despite the background screams. What an invention, I shall stick with it.

Got the RogerOn iN with the Audeo Paradise hearing aids not long after they first came out; the Roger really helps in conferences, in restaurants, driving with people in the back seat (finally I can participate in conversations in the car). The pointer function works well, as does the table function with or without the app (yes, the app can be helpful), works with the bedroom tv (use the tv bluetooth on the family room tv)...it is very versatile. One thing to note, though, speech quality when using the RogerOn iN is quite harsh...almost like my old portable 3 transistor AM radio compared to my old FM boombox ... when you turn off the RogerOn, it's as if your hearing aids suddenly sound very rich. The tradeoff in harsh sound is being able to hear conversations in difficult situations. So overall it is a good device.

Thankyou for this youtube explanation of the Roger On V2. Three weeks ago I received my Roger on v2. This has made this Christmas one of my most enjoyable for many years I have been using hearing aids since lezng the military in 1978 without much success until I got phonak marvel around 2018 when I started wearing them every day. As you pointed out they were not helpful at restaurants and social gatherings. Everything you have mentioned above is true. One thing not above is my wife says I have stopped shouting at parties and in other noisy situations as with the Roger On I can hear the volume of my own voice and only speak loud enough to be heard.
@jamesluckett84454 ай бұрын
I have moderate high frequency hearing loss. I'm also sensitive to very loud situations -- I can't tolerate as much sound pressure as most people can. I recently went to a muscial stage performance. The actors were using microphones and there was a 15-piece orchestra. It was unpleasant. The music and the dialogue sounded distorted and I could not understand the dialogue. I tried taking off my hearing aids. The music sounded better but I still could not understand the dialogue. For one brief interval, the actors' mics went dead and then everything was fine. this was with the hearing aids in. I could understand the dialogue once there was no amplification. But alas, they fixed it. I wear Phonak Lumity 90s with ear molds. Since part of the problem is everything is just too damn loud, I am thinking of wearing hearing protector muffs over my hearing aids and then streaming the sound in with a Roger mic. This should allow me to reduce the volume and still have the high frequency boost I need for speech intelligibility. What do you think of that idea? Or would the Roger mics be overloaded by the sound level in a musical stage performance? My guess is it was 90 db. But I didn't measure it. Certainly more than 80.

I have been using the Roger on for many months and love it, especially in restaurants and environments with many people. Setting it in the middle of the table allows me to hear everyone sitting with me, as if I have no hearing issue. I also find the pointer very effective when standing in a group with dialog rotating from one person to another. I simply move the Roger On direction to capture whomever is speaking.

Great explanation of exactly why I, too, love the new Roger On. One other feature enabled by my Advanced Bionics app: I can adjust the extent to which sound in any environment comes from my hearing instrument mics vs. the Roger. In a noisy environment, I elect almost 100% the Roger (when pointing at the person with whom I'm talking). In a quiet conference room, I'll elect a 50-50 balance to enable my own voice to sound natural.

Hi Matthew. This year was the first time I got a proper hearing aid. I have single side deafness, so I discussed with my audiologist about the posibility of using a standard hearing aid (the one I have right now is a Phonak Lumity) and a CROS hearing aid on the other "not working" ear. My audiologist recommended me using the Roger On instead of a CROS device solely for the versatility it provided and I can only say I'm really impressed with this tool and how far has technology come to help people with hearing loss. Now I think I don't use it as much as I could. When I'm in the house I mainly use it connected to the TV and also as a "glorified baby monitor" to be able to hear one of my senior relatives in other rooms so I can know theyŕe ok or if they need something. I've also used it in a couple of meetings and restaurants but I think I'm still learning how to properly use it in those situations. Overall, it's a very handy accesory and I can only be very excited for what the technology can achieve in the future.

18:10 7/4/23 - I am a Rodger On user, for two years now. Conversation in any environment with background noise is not possible, or at least pleasurable, without these. I have two. ….. I strongly disagree with the presenter that adjusting with a Smartphone APP is unnecessary. Adjustments, and I make two, minimizes background noises mixing with the wearer of the microphone. Unfortunately adjustments I make with the APP are dropped when I switch to another APP, such as a newspaper. So I must keep the Phonak APP open. Using two microphones presents another problem. If either microphone gets out of plumb it mutes. If the user doesn’t sit up straight, or leans back in a chair or is just to fat to maintain the microphone in a vertical position it mutes. …. These microphones are superb , making it possible for me to communicate in noise environments or to hear a fairly distant speaker.

I guess I should be glad my hearing probably isn't bad enough to NEED a Roger On V2, though restaurants are a challenge. Running close to $2K, I can think of lots of other things I need to spend $2K on. The prices on these things just have got to come down! Accessories are just not reasonable. I am going to buy a TV connector, but even that is not reasonably priced. I know you said this takes the place of 5 devices, to bad it costs as much as 5 devices!

Hi Matthew, Just want to say that I recently subscribed & started checking out your videos for hearing aid users. I currently use the ReSound TV Streamer 2 with my two ReSound Linx Quattro hearing aids, which turn them into wireless headphones (love being able to walk into another room & still clearly hear my TV shows - it's a Godsend). As my ReSound aids are over 4 yrs old, my audiologist ordered me new Phonak hearing aids (not sure which model yet, as I have a high freq hearing loss). She also ordered me the "Roger ON iN" (not sure if V2 - does the "iN" part determine if it's V2)? Because I've been using the ReSound TV streamer, she also ordered me a Phonak TV Connector. My question is since I currently use the ReSound TV Streamer, I understand from your video that I can use the Roger On as a TV streamer. Would that replace the Phonak TV Connector? Would I really have a choice of devices to use for the TV? If so, which would you recommend for the best TV sound quality to my aids? Do you have a video/article out on the Roger On V2 being used as a TV streamer? Also, if the Roger On is used as a TV streamer, how does it connect to the TV? I don't see any cables included in the product list from Phonak's website. Would I need another go-between device to connect the Roger On V2 to be used as a TV streamer? If so, seems the Phonak TV connector would be the better choice to use since it's designed for that purpose. I am so looking forward to use the Roger ON mic at the table (home & restaurant) with my adult kids & friends. It's been so frustrating having to zone in on each person's conversation around the dinner table -- especially in a noisy restaurant like the Texas Roadhouse next to the bar. Or asking some of them to speak up & repeat themselves over & over again. And also just out grocery shopping, having to lean over as close as possible to the person behind the deli & meat counter when ordering food so I can catch what they're saying. Thanks for your time! Ron from Arizona

Hey Ron, thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes it comes with all the kit that you need to connect it to the TV so you should have no issues at all. I dont have a separate video on solely using it for the TV I'm afraid. You wont need both the TV connector and the Roger on V2, save yourself the money. I hope this helps, Matthew

I find that using the SmartPhone APP is essential to my use of the Roger On in a noisy environment, the type where I meet most of my friends. Starbucks. I can cut down on the ambient sound. It requires much less effort to understand when I have done. The Roger On is much less useful to me if I can make adjustments with the APP. I think that this video plays down that feature with the statement that the hearing aid - microphone system can be stand alone.

I was in a quiet large restaurant room with a group of 9 and we were the only customers. I put my Roger On in table mode, opened the app on my phone and tried to hear conversations near to me. I had a very difficult time even when using the app to focus on 1 or 2 speakers. Does the angle position of my iPhone and Roger On make a difference? I tried turning the On towards the speaker but left it flat on the table. Picking it up and pointing didn’t work well either. I’m not getting the best results from my Roger On! Should my hearing clinic be changing any settings on their computer? Or what is the best placement on the table?

As someone who will be obtaining Phonak Lumity hearing aids, why would a person needs to go out and spend more money on a accessory or accessories to help them hear? Then what is the point in my case of spending USD$6000.00 for two hearing aids, where the technology in the accessory device should be already built into the hearing aids? Honestly to me it is a scam with these accessories.
@AbramBaileyPro Жыл бұрын
Just wanted to point out that there is simply no way of replicating a remote microphone with the microphones on board the hearing aids. Hearing aids do attempt to clean background noise, primarily by using directional microphones, but there are limitations to how effective this can be. Remote mics are far superior because they put the mic closer to the target voice and provide even better microphone technology than is possible in a device the size of a hearing aid. All this adds up to a much better signal to noise ratio. Do I think the accessories should be more affordable than they are? Of course! But, they are effective and definitely a necessity for anyone struggling to hear well with their (well-tuned) hearing aids.
