Billboard said BTS PAVED the way. Someone first said this to RM who laughed but liked the phrase. Said that's funny but true maybe. Can he not own what everybody else knows. Yes J Cole recently delighted ARMY called out BTS in his verse were he says he stays hot doing numbers like kpop BTS in the flesh. Whilst others flop. He talks about laughing all the way to the bank and later asks his audience who is selling out tours. J HOPE responded sharing and calling him Hyung. J Cole met J Hope at Lollapolooza. He knew how big Hobi was from that. Who cares what no name whiners say. Look who collabs with BTS. Erykah Badu, Walle, Halsey well it's a long long long list. Artists know, as they say game knows game. They paved the way for other artists to know how to deal with their enlistment too.

Several kpop idols literally said BTS paved the way, like Jihyo from Twice, Bang Chan from Stray Kids, Sunmi solist, etc. But Twice and Stray Kids fandoms do not like it. Kpop fans do not like fair competition expect multistan fans.

I think the boys doing solo albums and projects did bring in new fans. but I could say this is a double edged sword. because while some maybe become curious about other members through the one member they discovered and actually slowly become baby Army. it also invites solo stans who only like that one member and become toxic towards the others. now Im an old Army. however I love seeing new Army. and also its ok to like one member as long as you dont bash the others. so yeah it could be a good and bad thing. Also BTS paved the way by giving K Pop more visibility in the markets that can take those groups higher. no one says other korean artists didint come into the western market first. however K pop still never became a big thing. it was a niche thing, like collecting comic books. but now its actually being taken more seriously by the biggest music markets in the world. and BTS did that. although I believe BTS is beyond the genre of K pop, and I dont like K pop at all they did open the doors for others. instead of hating them they should be thanking them.
@offbypurpleheartАй бұрын
I can see it being a double edged sword too. I've unfortunately seen too many solo's prior to the enlistments (I got in the fandom in 2019 and it was already pretty bad) anyway that I didn't even consider that.

I’m so glad your channel popped up on my feed. I love listening to intelligent, rational discussions about BTS on KZbin. There are so few like you. Of course BTS paved the way for all Asian artists. That doesn’t mean they were the first to do anything, it just means they made the trek easier toward world recognition for others because they broke through so many barriers. I respect RM for moving past his usual humbleness to declare BTS’s worth. Still, hate and prejudice are everywhere, and BTS is no stranger to criticism. They must have strong constitutions to withstand all that is thrown at them. Actually I’m hoping SUGA wins his Grammy with the song that comes out of this latest debacle. Thanks again for your discussion!

I appreciate you taking the time to watch! It truly means a lot!💜 They've had such a long career of being insulted and dragged through the mud that I hope that these latest events haven't gotten them down too bad but I really feel for Yoongi. They've been absolutely vicious to him this time around and I'm honestly wishing for them to no longer be humble at all. I actually cackled the first time I heard RM say that on the track. It must have been that live that stuck out to him
@christinebaukus8281Ай бұрын
@@offbypurpleheart I can only hope that Yoongi can take to heart and remember the lyrics he wrote that we all gained strength from, and use them now to bolster his own courage through this mess. It pains our hearts to see all this. But again, thank you for your discussion of all these events. I haven’t seen your channel before and it seems you mostly discuss Kdramas and I will watch those videos too, but I am hoping you will continue to discuss other BTS topics as well. Thank you!

7:49 interesting. If you listen to his actual lyrics, I don’t think he said he’s the BTS of rap. He said he’s doing “numbers like K-pop in the flesh with BTS” I took it as he’s doing numbers like the K-pop industry and collaborating with BTS. It sounded to me like he was still recognizing that BTS is in their own league.

Well said. This was the Kpoppies' dream- a takeover opportunity that they have hilariously been unable to capitalize on. I didn't like the "paved the way" tag when ARMY was first using it, because I thought it was needlessly antagonizing people. But haters gonna hate anyway, so why not? BTS never claimed to have invented Kpop, and they have always humbly given artists like Seo Taiji, Tiger JK, Epik High and PSY (to name just a few) their due. All I can say is that there's gochugaru in my pantry, I am well-versed in Korean beauty products, I'm reading translated literature- and it all started 6 or 7 years ago, just about the time I was first introduced to BTS. Coincidence? I think not. I can't wait for June 2025.
@offbypurpleheartАй бұрын
Honestly you've named it exactly. The haters are going to hate regardless, and they take any provocation to antagonize BTS in any which way. I've always thought that their Global impact from 2019 and onwards allowed them to make those claims but I especially think it's true now. And it doesn't take away from the artists you've mentioned either.

Correct in a blink of eyes 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 Jin will out out an album and other exciting things will be coming to us, by Jin. Hobi will be out of military and who knows what he’s planing. If by paved the way you mean being the group that came at the perfect time, rode the wave and made k-pop palatable in the North American mainstream I absolutly agree. Certainly many of the k-pop groups that today has an audience in North America would not have one without BTS, my current favorites included. That said for me, a person that has had k-pop in my music rotation long before BTS existed and see 'paved the way' to mean the ones that did the groundwork that maybe never gets any recognition so that giants can drive down that road it always felt like the that moniker should rather go to all the fans of all the different smaller artists before BTS that tirelessly asked for K-pop in North America despite its unavailability. Rather than BTS paving the way, I see BTS as the perfect vessel for these 00s/early 10s fans to bring in more fans and finally get what they where paving the way for. But then again I got a feeling that Twitter fans don't think the same as me and rather are bristling at having to acknowledge that their current favorite probably has a bigger fanbase in North America because BTS came before them.
@michellem6826Ай бұрын
I think BTS earned more credit than that and all the artists stating that BTS proved the way supports that. While BTS has been on hiatus, the time could have shown that other K-pop artist could fill the space and grow. That did not happen.
@TN-qg2hxАй бұрын
I knew nothing about South Korea or k-pop before BTS. 800k + tourists travel to SK each year specifically because of BTS. I'm not sure what wave BTS was riding to pave the way. They appear to have created the wave. Is that not part of paving the way. Sometimes one just has to give credit where credit is due.
@ruthfischer7615Ай бұрын
Grab a lexicon and look up the phrase. If you want a comparison: Elvis is the King of Rock 'n' Roll - but he is not the "father": That is Chuck Berry. All the artists you can name did not have the impact necesary for "paving the way". Seo Taiji is the trigger for South Korea itself. HOT is considered the first - despite a group named Idol having debuted before them and initially having some success. BoA and TVXQ Paved the Way to Japan - the second biggest music market. But globally? In countries like India, USA or Saudie Arabia? That is BTS. Even in Japan they have gotten the Artist (!) - not the foreign artist - of the year title. I'm under the impression that that is a first for a foreigner. If you can't stand boracity magazine's explanation video essay try bby gang mag - his arguements are a little different but the conclusion is the same. Asian Entertainment and Culture also has a few short vids on the topic. The artists you are likely to name failed actually despite having done something in most of their cases - which is why they credit BTS - like the Wonder Girls or Rain. It's not necessary a popularity contest but a question if something has enough impact or is still niche and you became a fan of a niche fandom and why not? Does not mean that any of them had global impact. In numbers alone BTS is as big as the rest put together. They have a measurable impact on SK's GDP. They also make foreign politicians and artists become more interested in SK like their 3 UN speeches or the speech at the White House. BTS is unlike most of Idol music and has - quiet often - something to say about social issues, mental health and real self-love and the psychological self. They have a real concept that is frankly lacking in almost all of K-pop. It's more than just sounding good - even if they have that, too.
@michellem6826Ай бұрын
@@ruthfischer7615 thanks for your comment. I am not sure why this is a difficult concept. BTS achievements do not make any other artists less. In fact, BTS efforts have made other artists shine.
@offbypurpleheartАй бұрын
Thank you for summarizing this in such a succinct way! This pretty much I view this. I'm thinking in the terms of global impact - BTS have every right to make the claim of paving the way.

Haters will never realize they are insulting all the artists who have whoheartedly voluntarily collaborated with BTS when they degrade everything BTS has done. Truly, WTF. Do they really believe that they know better to be that judgemental. That is why I never go near Twitter(X). It's literally toxic for my health, mental and physical. The haters will find things to hate even if BTS throws themselves to save a life right in front of them. BTS is continuously getting better results even when they are on hiatus from active promotions, so I understand people are jealous. But really, try using the time and money they are wasting on hating BTS on their own favorites. It really would do wonders.
