You should have mentioned that 25$ is optional. Afaik you only need a raspberry pi pico for this, which is only 5$. So if you are willing to manually connect everything, this thing is incredibly cheap. You could also print the breakout pcb yourself, which would save you a few bucks too. Definitely incredible project

I wired up a couple of RPi Picos with GP2040 in an old X-Arcade (early 2000s). It took a little effort, including some soldering, hot gluing, and remapping the pins, but it's in there and works great. Fun project. If you already have the tools (soldering iron, hot glue, etc), then you could just use a RPi Pico flashed with GP2040.

6:10 Yah! adding RGB 5050 LEDs into your box can pull 20mA per LED colour for a RGB/White that is 60mA. That's what I call a voltage dropout below 3V. Check your source USB cable, or throw your switch out the window. I did ditto with my custom controller with RGB added pulling the voltage below minimum voltage using racing drone LED lights, 240 mA pull. You need a second power source/battery. Not a software issue. Your Kaimana LED Controller with 8 buttons equals 16x3x20 = 1A @ 5V. smoking your switch.

@@Adniwhack you are right it is not yet supported. I am just learning the basics at the moment, building a pico based hit box style controller and designing and 3d printing the case. Looking into it a bit further it seems adding Bluetooth support would not really have any benefit anyway as it would introduce some input lag. Which is the opposite of what you want on a fight stick I would imagine.
@AvengerII Жыл бұрын
@@Adniwhack GP2040CE also doesn't support PS4 (for more than 8 min) or PS5! There are also tons of PS3 games with security that will BLOCK the GP2040CE from working on them! Expect 20-30% of your PS3 games NOT to work with controllers equipped with GP2040CE. That's reality some people don't want to face. The Third Party PCBs that ARE completely functional with PS3 were reverse-engineered from functioning licensed PCBs. The cheapest runs $11-$12 but the reliable PCBs are $35 and up unless you can cannibalize a used PS3 Hori Commander Pad. Nobody's going to give you full-compatibility for free. It's just not happening! There are a lot of people under the delusion they can run everything for $5 when basic PS3 security hasn't been cracked on many games. (Big Surprise, though. The Zero Delay board does work with every PS3 fighting game and non-fighting game I've tested it with. I do agree, though -- it's FAR from the best PCB out there but they figured out something about PS3 security GP2040CE hasn't yet... So much for being the fastest PCB out there! That sounds like the hype Apple used in the 1990s to try to convince people their G3 and G4 computers had faster processors than PC's running Intel CPUs.) I can vouch for Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix not working with GP2040CE. Those are 2 big games for GP2040CE to be incompatible with! I think it's a fine board but it's only "fully compatible" with PC and things like Raspberry Pi. The runarounds for PS4 and PS5 authentication of GP2040CE do sound expensive. The latest Brook converters are $50. If you already had a higher-end Brook PCB installed in a joystick, you'd almost be better off just getting the PS5 upgrade chip than spending another $50 on a converter unless you planned to use that converter with a fleet of retro-joysticks. That business of "GPIO pins" and 5V lines and etc., etc. that's complicated technical BS to expect people to do. 99% of the "mod community" doesn't like to solder to pincushion-sized solder points! It's like Michelangelo convincing beginning art students they'll all be able to paint the Sistine Chapel after a week of training! It's baloney! I went through all that business to try get the "keys" for the PS4 and I'm convinced that BS won't work for 95% of us! Those Reddit tutorials just don't work...

Posting here to say that GP2040-CE (this project's successor) has announced that a future update will include PS4 and PS5 support via passthrough verification! Basically you attach a USB connector's data cables to two sequential GPIO pins, and then the 5V and the Ground lines. If done right, you can plug in a Mayflash PS4 MagicBoot or a Brook FGC Wingman inside of your stick and unlock the stick for the PS4 and PS5. The best part is that due to the nature of the passthrough, the MagicBoot/Wingman are only there to provide verification checks, so you get unlimited access to those consoles without the input latency caused by plugging them in the usual way. This also removes the need to do a hardware modification of a PS4 to dump a Dualshock 4's Firmware.

So this is actually kind of an interesting topic. Currently, PS4 mode can be accessed without a Wingman by physically modifying a PS4 and dumping a Dualshock 4's Firmware, and then flashing it onto a Pico Board. As you can guess, it's not very user friendly at all. There is an increase in latency if you plug it in via Wingman (IIRC it's something like 1 milisecond). HOWEVER... Two days ago the devs announced that they figured out how to add passthrough authentication to the board, which means that if hooked up properly, you can plug the Wingman into the PCB itself. This reduces the Wingman's role to simply providing verification checks for the PS4 and PS5 while the Pico Board handles all the input processing. As a result, there is no added input latency with this method.

I've come from the future to report that the devs of GP2040-CE (this firmware's successor project) have confirmed PS4 AND PS5 compatibility through passthrough authentication! Basically it will allow you to play a Mayflash PS4 MagicBoots or a Brook Wingman FGC directly into the board. The main advantage being since those dongles only handle verification, they don't add the input latency that they normally do. Yes this works for a Raspberry Pi Pico without a breakout board, although you will need a female USB connector soldered to the V5 + Ground pins, and then two sequential pins on the board (so if you aren't using R3 and L3, for example, you can remove that functionality to add PS4+PS5 compatibility)

Ok, so if have a Final Fight A1up and haven't modded it yet, adding extra buttons, swapping the sticks and adding 2 of these encoders will give me a much better experience for SFV online? I'm looking at the magstick + so can also play 4 way games. I got close to gold rating but the game's poor netcode and my cpu not being the greatest (FX-6300) I suspect are major roadblocks when I lose to people b/c the game doesn't properly register my inputs. I have gigabit ethernet plan hardwired but I suspect the game gives priority to weaker connection player sometimes. I also only play connection 4-5 to minimize issues. I wish they would use parsec as I'm sure that would be better. Using nvme ssd via pcie which found a guide to do but wasn't easy to find. edit: my gpu is 8GB RX 570 and DDR3-1600 32GB. cpu utilization shows game uses no more than ~48% so I think capcom is more to blame as the game should run smoothly and not hiccup as much as it does. I only play at 60hz (1600x900 monitor; 1920x1080 32" LCD tv or 1368x768 native for same tv)--no resolution matters, same problems occur

It's marketing. Brook is trying to appeal to the guys who only want to spend $10 or less. I have a Zero Delay encoder PCB. I can attest to the fact that it's a piece of crap! Not even a dedicated Home button which means you STILL have to use a DS3 shock pad or other licensed PS3 controller. The bare minimum to spend for something that performs better and is pre-assembled is $25. That's going to be the Zero Pi (Brook) or Integrated Pico Fighting Board (Jasen's Customs). The one thing the Brook PCB (Zero Pi) might do better than the Pico FB is PS3 support since it's based on a higher-end PCB (that I'm sure was reverse-engineered from an officially-licensed PCB just like the Cthulu PCB was). I can confirm the Pico Fighting Board doesn't work with Super Street Fighter II HD Remix on PS3. You can't even get past the Main Menu on the start page because NONE of the PUNCH or KICK buttons work!!! You have to use "X" button to make menu choice and if it's disabled, you're STUCK and can only get out of the game with HOME button. HOME button, START, and UP/DOWN stick inputs still work but everything is disabled until you try to exit with HOME button. When you boot into "Quit" mode, the disabled buttons and directional inputs work again BUT if you go back into Game mode, all those buttons and directional inputs are disabled again! The issue pops up even if you get into the game in 2-player mode. The Player 2 (Pico-joystick) STILL has the button and directional input issues. And the only operational directions are up UP and DOWN! The Pico FB is useless in SSF2T HD Remix. At least on the PS3 version.... My joysticks running with PS3/PS4+ PCBs and MC Cthulu (which is reverse-engineered from the Hori HRAP3 PCB) have no issues with SSF2 HD Remix or any other PS3 game I've used them with. Pico FB has worked with most PS3 games BUT SSf2 HD Remix which is a game I like to play a lot. Thank goodness I have other still-compatible joysticks to use to play that game! Don't get me wrong -- the Pico Fighting Board is nice when it works but it's unlicensed and programmed by hobbyists. This is not their first passion. Hobbyists develop most of the emulators and there are still old consoles (Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis) that have issues with emulation to this day. Frankly, I am puzzled as to why the Pico FB is having issues with the one game. It's worked with every PC emulator I have and the other PS3 games I've tested it with. I'm thinking the Pico developers missed something that didn't escape the guys who developed the Brook and Cthulu PCBs...

The only way to get any benefits is from display technologies and fighting games start moving away from 60fps. You can still code the animations and other stuff to 60fps while having engine 120hz output and 120hz input (or even 1000hz polling rate for that matter). Compatibility is a joke too, it's just USB. If sony and ms wanted - everything would be compatible, but where's profit in that?

PFB and GP2040 dev here. The input latency difference is measurable and repeatable, but I agree it's a marginal difference in real world performance. The PFB does have a better maximum repsonse time than the Brook UFB (~1.3 ms to 3.8 ms), meaning the input is slightly less likely to skip a frame on the PFB.

The guy making this board went AWOL. Do not order from him. I had to charge back with my bank.

did you order another encoder by another brand? Or did you try to get a pi 0 and solder it yourself? I don't solder so I'd need to get another encoder

I said screw it and ordered a brooks board. It went into an obscure rhythm game controller I was building so I just needed whatever with low latency.

@@Shrapnel_Warning ok thanks. hope it worked out for you. I'll probably go the cheaper route since it'll be my first mod and then maybe get something faster like your brooks once I'm more experienced modding

"If these lag numbers are true" Yet says it's the fastest board on the market.

i dont use a pcb because electricity and finger latency is slow, instead my inputs are preprogrammed into the game itself and are played back against the opponent (faster than real time)
