They never found the blind man in the rubble of the bar They dug a cave, an empty grave For a soldier of the stars.. They then forgot the blind man, but I won’t forget that night... I was a child alone who saw his father’s final flight....

Seeing as no one else has done this, I decided I would. Inaccuracies will be present for sure but I tried. He couldn’t see the moons and suns, Couldn’t see the stars, He couldn’t see the docking lights So he hangs around the bars, Though in the life he left behind, he lives beyond the sky, He’s grounded, useless, hopeless, for a blind man cannot fly. Now, a man who flies a starship’s drive is a god to other men, No flaws has he that they perceive, No thoughts that they may ken, But should his body fail him or his senses let him down, They all ignore his time at war, Alone he stalks the town. Now the blind man sits and dreams of ships In the foam of another beer, A pilot sneers, the blind man hears, and he sheds a ductless tear, For once he was a soldier in a war to save his race... Two laser knives wiped out his eyes and left him half a face. Now the starfleet’s free with liberty except in times of war, So comes the day the blind man’s bearings lie with space no more, The fleet is called, The ships head out, The battle cry is blown... Left behind to drink his wine, The blind man sits alone. Well suddenly, pulse fire breaks free Among the space port buzz, Enemy signs behind the lines Destroying home fleet stars, The blind man leaps to safety As the laser heat burns through... He alone can save his home, He knows what he must do. . . Through the sounds of war That blast him o’er the memories true He finds a ship, a shuttle slip abandoned by its crew, He waits until the scanners sound, The battle is above... With a prayer to gods of air, He gives the jets a shove....... Some say it was a stroke of luck, That shuttle’s engine’s blew. They say it was the hand of God, Who aimed it straight and true. They say it was the fate of war, That saved their world that day... That downed the rebel leader and so Chased his force away. They never found the blind man in the rubble of the bar They dug a cave, an empty grave For a soldier of the stars.. They then forgot the blind man, but I won’t forget that night... I was a child alone who saw his father’s final flight.... No, he couldn’t see the moons or suns... Couldn’t see the stars... He couldn’t see the docking lights so he hangs around the bars.. But in the life he left behind, he lived beyond the sky.... He was grounded, useless, hopeless, For a blind man cannot fly. ... no a blind man cannot fly.

This is pretty good, thanks for doing it. I'm pretty sure that "No thoughts that they make him" is actually "No faults that they may ken," They sound pretty similar so I can see why it got mixed up.

Thanks for the lyrics, another correction, I am pretty sure the line "A pilot sees the blind man here and he sheds a ductless tear" is actually "A pilot sneers, the blind man hears, and he sheds a ductless tear" (as he has no eyes and thus no tear ducts)

Seriously!!! I have literally stopped watching television, and no longer go to the movies. There's just no imagination left in Hollywood, and no freedom or guts to produce what could be some really great movies. Just look at the many sci-fi books and fantasy books online and in the book stores. THEN... there's FILK. Oh My Goodness!! What an epic movie this one song could make. And just look to the right, here, with that list of filk songs.... some of these came from old books, some are just songs to be sung at a Filker's Convention. Any one of them could make a movie --or three. The Wizard of Mackeytown is one of my favorites. The Horse Tamer's Daughter would be an epic fantasy/sci-fi movie. Carmen Miranda's Ghost and 9 to 5 Barbarian would be comedies that we could all give a hoot about. LOL And Dawson's Christian would be the one I'd applaud the most. Yeah. I listen to these old tapes and 'dream'. But this one, and a few others like it would bring tears to the eyes of movie goers .... if someone would just make it for the big silver screen. What happened to the Sci-Fi channel? Oh, yeah. They changed their name. smh SyFy. But, it's okay. Those of us who enjoy Filk can sit back and listen to these amazing adventures and dream them into the sky.

Riseling (?) from The Green Hills of Earth was a blind man who rescued a ship. Is this song 'sort of' about him?
@RKBrumbelow
@RKBrumbelow 9 жыл бұрын
+Molly Denam In as much as it is about any one of our literary heroes who having answered a call and doing his duty he is cast aside because of his sacrifice and then while unable to fulfill the calling of his youth he once more dares to step into the breech and saves his people once again as a final act of duty. It is a common theme throughout literature, but not a popular one today.
@allencajah1140
@allencajah1140 9 жыл бұрын
Robert Brumbelow Riseling from the Green Hills of Earth was one of my childhood heroes. This song sort of reminded me of him so I naturally thought it might be about him. But I understand the theme behind this song. And I disagree about it not being a popular theme today. While there is some weird stuff going on in movies, books, and even real life, there are those heroes who move to action when they are needed.

Can anyone explain "he sheds a ductless tear", pleeze? And "the blind man's bay Rings loud with space no more"?
@CanOfSodah
@CanOfSodah 3 жыл бұрын
He sheds a ductless tear because his eye sockets are empty. He doesn't have tearducts anymore, but he would cry if he could. The second line is just reinforcing that he's no longer allowed to go to space.
@NICEFINENEWROBOT
@NICEFINENEWROBOT 3 жыл бұрын
@@CanOfSodah So these are not real valid English expressions - ductless tears makes no sense. Does the blind man own a bay that can ring? Ring with space makes no sense either. When does a bay ring with space? When it's empty? If it rings with space no more - how does that mean he's not allowed to go to space any more? This is playing with words, poetry, O.K. And "I Am The Walrus" is an extreme example of nonsensical poetry. I understand in a way what the singer/poet is trying to say, but I cannot understand how a native English speaker deducts this special meaning from so strange an expression. I want to eperience the native speaker's thoughts.
