This band is a masterclass in songwriting. Everyone is absolutely on top of their game. Every single layer is so perfect, minimal and enriching and suits the song so well. Of course, Gavin's playing is as masterful as always, but Bruce's writing is so tasteful and purposeful, plus his production is off the charts as well. Crystal clear. Really excited for the album.

The production on this song is amazing. Everything is clear, the mood seamlessly changes as the tempo shifts up and down. I love how the dissonance keeps you hanging for longer than you expect. It makes you hope for resolution and they do resolve into a fantastic jam, but make you work for it emotionally. Pure bliss to listen to.

LYRICS You caught me in the black light There was no way out for us I thought it'd be a matter of time But you lost your head I followed you, but you were out of sight I did everything I could to get you back Into my light It's not how I remember it You sold me out before I had time To fight Now it's not how I remember it You cornered me Knocked me out If you follow me, then I'll be out of sight If you follow me, then I'll be out of sight I'll never be the one who comes and crawls Back in your light It's not how I remember it You took control And sold me out before I had time You follow me, but I am out of sight You follow me, but I am out of sight I never wanted anyone else to fall Into your light It's not how I remember it It's not how I remember it It's not how I remember it If I had known what it's all about Someone told me to work it out I live in this frequency Frequency just for me Just scattered voices Not one that I can say Is close enough for me to make it out No words that I can care about This is a world of silence This is a world where you are safe Yeah, I am lost in this frequency It's a frequency just for me I hear no voices Not the ones that I betrayed You follow me, but I am out of sight Yeah, I'm out of sight You follow me, but I am out of sight Yeah, I'm out of sight I never wanted anyone else to fall Into my light You caught me in the black light There was one way out for you I knocked you out Is that how you remember it?

They've really hit the spot with the last 2 albums and I'm glad they're continuing that sound into this one while still managing to expand it.

What I like is that they're not all depressing sounding, even if the lyrical theme isn't positive per say.
@aniketthakur55204 жыл бұрын
Moreover, in my pov, lyrics are mostly based on terror management theory or nihilistic prospect.

Don't mind if they do. Darker and personal themes go nicely in prog bands like them (Gazpacho is another excellent example). At least that's what I think.
@RyanxDunn4 жыл бұрын
@Elijah Rosgard All to their own I guess. Something about their old stuff before Gavin came in just didn't grab my attention like their newer stuff. I think they just become more musically spacious and less heavy elements were used. I come from listening to metalcore and Dream Theater and such so I'm not alien to heavier stuff, but for me, their sound works better this way. As a fan from a beginning such as yourself, however, I can see how the change might be a bit disappointing or confusing though.

@Elijah Rosgard I guess he means the beginning of the first real "full sound" chorus? yeah - I say it was probably Vel 120... I really LIKE the idea, but I think it has been modified - maybe post-modified - I would have loved to hear that "live" played, which he certainly can do, though not with THAT dynamic different. But let's see what they make out of it LIVE.
