I love Steve Martin. especially his earlier films but there was only one man born to play Inspector clouseau, the late great Peter Sellers.

no. the part was written for Peter Sellers. This isn't Shakespeare where many actors can try and perform their "interpretation". Clouseau was written as more of a supporting character in the original film but Sellers performance stole the show. Furthermore, Sellers improvised nearly 75% of Inspector Clouseau. Steve Martin is one of the funniest actors in the modern era, but he's not in the same sport as Peter Sellers.
