I saw this original intro to the Pink Panther show only once - and loved it the best of all the intros for its combo of live action (with '60s split-screen!) and animation - before it was replaced (the following week!) with the "New Pink Panther Show" intro when The Ant and the Aardvark joined the cartoon lineup. That new combo were funny, too - the umpteenth reworking of the Tom and Jerry or Road Runner vs. Wile E. Coyote "catch me if you can" theme - but it was nothing like the original and best! Thanks for reviving this!

I LOVE this car! I just finished creating a software model of it in super-detail. I have spent around six years in total working on it, so its become an obsession I guess you might say. This car is a legend and represents the extremely creative thinking going on at that time in car design. It had many firsts including the clam-shell door, drinks bar, telephone, TV, and rear-view camera. I also had the plastic kit growing up in the UK. My Dad built it for me at the time and yes, it had like a felt pink carpet inside the model. The model was actually slightly off but was hardly noticeable to the untrained eye :-) The cockpit at the front was only big enough for a young kid.

Hi Mark. I remember the show well. Thoroughly enjoyed watching the intro here. My brother had the Dinky pp car with the pull strap. Hit by a wave of pink ness, I just bought a clapped out Dinky model to restore. Had forgotten what a beautiful machine it was. Today, Valentines Day, gave my wife some limited edition Strawberry & Cream flavour Lindor Chocolates. After trying a few myself the taste reminded me of the Pink Panther chocolate bars that were around when I was kid - which eventually led to me watching this video. Remember being allowed to stay up about 30 minutes later than usual to see this in the evenings. Must have been about 4 or 5 years old at the time.

It shocks me that so few of my American friends have forgotten about this opening and the car. They accused me of making it up or of it being a "British thing" as if the BBC could have afforded, in the late 1960s, to commission a one-off Barris car, film a title sequence in Southern California, have special animation done for that sequence and pay for an original song quite obviously performed by an American band That kind o money would have paid for at least five years of Doctor Who back then.

well i can definitely tell that happened in the 70’s that’s for sure, and it did raise the spirits quite a bit, i just think it’s a shame they didn’t take the opportunity to use some kind of condensed version of the film’s intro. always loved how that one portrayed the characters without saying anything about them. very smooth. I think overall my vote would be the 90’s intro, but this one does have its charms.

It didn't have a steering wheel. Just two levers like a tank. So it veers from one side to the next. Also it had had an accident so one steering arm got bent and loose so it had a lot of play. Like a Panther that is Pink they only made one so had to make the best of what they got on the day. Any help?

This brings back a lot of great memories from my childhood as The Pink Panther was one of my favourite cartoons on TV back then. Also I'm glad that after all these years of The Pink Panther cartoons not being shown on TV, BBC TWO is finally repeating them again, each weekday morning at 11.35am. Everyday surrealism part 1 I watched this opening when the show came on. Amazing car, pink, weird. Young boy, my age, driving it. The cartoons themselves were odd, but great. I could never figure out the link between the pink panther and inspector clouseau sections. And was always vaguelly disappointed that the car never made an appearance. A range of quirky strangness for a young chap.

I remember seeing this on Channel 4 on Sunday mornings along with Secret Squirrel and The Ant and The Aardvark and my dad playing the original Henry Mancini theme tune on his saxophone. The coolest cat ever. I had the toy of this car. It was fantastic fun. I can also remember stuffing my face with Pink Panther chocolate. 70's was the best time to be alive in the UK. Power cuts were fun. Everyone got along. Happy days.

The car was all over the place even when being driven slowly by that kid; I suppose it was a strange sensation having the wheels that steer situated behind the driver rather than in front like most normal cars. I don't think I would have chanced being in the back of it.

Im so confused..all the episodes on youtube dont start with this amazing tune..was this used in later 70’s episodes..love it so much❤️
