Looks like a good result, glad it worked out. Currently got the pilsner conditioning, I brewed it for 8 and Xmas day will be day 12 of conditioning so I'm going to see how it is then. After that I'm on to the lager, my light spray malt arrived and my aim is to add 200g and hopefully get it up to the 5% mark. So fingers crossed for a nice pilsner and hopefully my lager experiment will work. Cheers mate.

12 days conditioning. Your certainly a more patient man than I am haha That should come out clean and crisp. I got my light spray malt through as well though not sure if I'll use it on the Saison

Out of curiosity, have you ever brewed a beer recipe in the pinter that is designed for say a Mr. Beer or Brew Demon? As the Fresh Press kits are about 1k and a 2 gallon recipe of Oktoberfest from Mr. Beer is 850g, that doesn't appear to be really that much of a difference. I imagine these two gallon kits would brew well in the Pinter!
@TravelandBrews6 ай бұрын
I havent tried that but i would take a guess a say they should work perfectly fine. Its just brewing after all

Never heard of the Pinter down Here TB but it producers a good looking beer and no mucking around bottling beer, . I did keg my HB a long time ago but this seems like a lot less hassle
@TravelandBrews3 жыл бұрын
It ain't bad for producing smaller quantities of beer. Don't always want 23L (40pints) of the same beer, where this comes in handy for 5L (9pints) and quick brew times.

I just bought one of these and was watching videos to get ideas. You have me wanting to buy several more just so I can run experiments with the different sugars/malt extract! Did you ever find a solution for a higher ABV that you enjoyed?
@TravelandBrews4 ай бұрын
Honestly adding extra sugar and fermentables will increase abv but the beer flavours don't hold out. All depends how much higher you want to go If looking to go higher abv I would suggest getting a beer kit or grain kit that aims for 8%. Pinter does have some higher abv packs you can try adding fermentables to boost the abv But I would say as its only 5Ls it's all trial and error and thankfully not top much waste if it goes wrong

How was the APA over Christmas?
@jamesgreen73144 жыл бұрын
The ale itself was lovely. Had a few issues tho... After I first tapped it it started fizzing out the carbonate dial which was OK as once it settle down the next day it was fine. Then the original tap started leaking a fair bit. Il say I lost over half pint of beer in the end. I'm hoping the new tap which I have now put in will solve this. And my next one will be the lager. But the beer itself was very good very easy to drink.
@TravelandBrews4 жыл бұрын
I've had two fob up and out the dial. I've found if you don't want to wait is turn the dial towards a point where gas comes out but not foam. Then pour from Pinter. If you reduce the volume of liquid inside it won't foam out the back. Got my new tap on. The last one started to drip quite a bit towards the end. Let's see how this new one goes

What about brown sugar instead of brewing sugar?

You can experiment with different sugars. They will impart different flavours/mouth feels to the beer. Brown sugar had molasses in it with might go good with the stout

My tap has started to leak a lot more now. Originally I was getting a few drips after a pour then it would stop, but it seems to be dripping for longer now. I've got my new tap through though can't change it till after I finish this brew.

Great Video, very informative. I've just got a pinter and had my first brew finished (Public house IPA) and was very impressed considering how easy it was. Would you recommend just liquid malt extract or would dried spraymalt work as well? Also what hydrometer do you have? I'm looking to buy one. Thanks in advance
@TravelandBrews4 жыл бұрын
You can add spray malt to increase ABV and mouthfeel. I added a small amount of Spray Malt in my Saison (150g) as didn't want to whack it up above 4.5% My hydrometer was bought from Love Brewing, where I picked up most of my equipment. I been tempted to pick up a second one from elsewhere and then verify they both give the same reading :)
@Nigellittle124 жыл бұрын
@@TravelandBrews Awesome. Thanks for reply 👍 Think I'll add some extra dark spraymalt to the stout brew to bump abv and body.
@CountDrunkula4 жыл бұрын
If you get a hydrometer try and get a single scale one that just shows gravity. The ones with multiple scales are an absolute effin ball-ache because the scale you want to read never faces you.

Hey great videos. Congrats on the brew it looks fantastic. Quick questions... In order to raise the % by 2 do you think the brew could take 400g of brewing sugar or Spraymalt or is there an upper limit of what you can add before it ruins. Cheers
@TravelandBrews4 жыл бұрын
I'm certain it could take more and with a stout it would be harder to ruin than with a lager/pilsner, which should be clean tasting. I could have perhaps helped the brew to start with by having room temp water rather than cold tap. It may have helped the yeast convert more sugars. I'm tasting my four saisons with 150g of spray malt tonight, vid will be up tomorrow

Great video as I have the Pinter myself! How much sugar did you put in? Cheers
@TravelandBrews3 жыл бұрын
I believe it was 190g of brewing sugar which was dissolved in hot water. When filling up the Pinter I filled it up just a little short (500ml), so I could then pour in the extra sugar dissolved in hot water which brought it back up to the normal brewing line.

@TravelandBrews3 жыл бұрын
With the dark matter, you could perhaps condition for a shorter time or turn the dial to release pressure a few times during the carbonation phase. This will ensure excess carbonation isnt absorbed by the beer.

From what I can gather, hydrometer measurements aren’t too reliable with carbonated liquids, the bubbles mess up the density and give a higher gravity reading. So maybe your brewing calculations were correct and you got a higher ABV than you bargained for!
@TravelandBrews4 жыл бұрын
When taking the measurement I try to get the beer flat by stirring and leaving a while. A few days later I did the same and it had gone up in ABV but not by much. 1% increase was fine by me, made it more a proper winter beer with the extra ABV 😁

Haven't looked at brewing anything besides beer. Champagne yeast is normally quite active, so would be a true test of the valve 😁
