The Pit Fiend - Monsters, Misguided #9

Yeah, I know demons and devils are supposed to be kept separate. I don't much care though.
And with this, we join two episodes' protagonists and close out the first book in the Monsters, Misguided series. Anya, the conquest paladin, and Fran, the ex-fiendish warlock now fight as a team after defeating the demon lord's infernal army. What will they come across in their adventures? Since the description flew under the radar: I'm not making videos in the Forgotten Realms setting or any setting other than my own, thus I left the Blood War lore at the door. As long as the stats I'm going over are intact and accurate, I don't feel the need to hold myself to a published setting. Many expect that of these videos since they're simply covering Dungeons and Dragons and that's silly.

You actually did really well, Forgotten Realms wise. Although you mixed up calling them demons, they were all devils except for the Gehenna fiend from part 1. Devils are also more likely to use these tactics, so well done!

@@DHTheAlaskan There is literally a millenia-long war going on between demons and devils *because* of this difference. Asmodeus, current top archdevil, was an angel in charge of fighting demonkind. It's literally in the backstory of devils that they absolutely *do not* get along with demons. Devils also punish evil mortals after they die. Demons are straight-up on a quest to destroy all of reality and pull all of existence into the Abyss.

@@sidequest2230 Yes, but in the game there *is* a pretty significant difference. And I mean, "it's a game" is also pretty insulting to Kanekuo given all the work he just made making a kickass video for it. Now, I feel like this is definitely homebrewed enough that you can waive the normal rules. But in vanilla, Devils and Demons completely hate each other, and actually their endless war with each other is a good part of the reason neither have been able to overtake the material plane. They're too busy killing each other to bring their full power to bear on the mortal realms, essentially, and if they weren't then everyone would be super fucked.

Funny story. My dad plays AD&D 2e with some of his buddies. During one of their sessions, the party had an encounter with tree pit fiends. They killed too of them and one of the party members cast a charm spell on the third. This basically caused the third pit fiend to become her servant for the next in game year.

Hey, I watched this video when it came out four years ago, and I went out of my way to find it again. This is the most well done monster series I've seen. The illustrations are stupendous. Watching this inspires my imagination, I'll be running a hell portal based one shot for my group soon, and I'm really glad to have this as a framework. This is a wonderful story, but we should all agree that two adventurers. One of which is powerless at the moment would never be able to stop an entire army of demons by themselves. If their tactics were just hack and slash they'd be over run, especially if the general itself is as strong as the paladin. I like to think this is the last happy memory that was going through the paladin's head as she got for lack of a more polite term for the hell she was about to go through, demoned.

*Francesca, standing in the middle of a wasteland with splattered demon corpses all around, next to a paladin who would kill her if she knew she was responsible* : ... You single?

Years ago I played a campaign that ended with the party going nose to nose with a Pit Lord that consumed the essence of an elder fire elemental. All but 2 of the party were slaughtered in a few turns. Last standing was a Minotaur Paladin and a half elf wizard. Perhaps 2 turns later the wizard was also dead leaving the Paladin the last one to face the Pit Lord. Before he died the wizard gave the paladin his tome of single use activate spells and told him of several pages that had been marked for his use during the battle. Finding the pages the Paladin activated them, giving himself: Bull's Strength, Enlarge Person, and about 10 other spells I cant remember. After the light show the Minotaur was the same size (Huge) as the enhanced Pit Lord. The battle turned into a clash of the titans scenario where the Paladin pushed the Pit Lord back to his portal. One of the dead players reminded the surviving player that the portal could only be closed from the other side. "Hold my Funions, I got this" he said with a cocky grin. The game ended with him tackling the Pit Lord into the portal, destroying the mechanism that opened the portal, and then sacrificing himself when he used a mass activation on the wizard's tome. The player that was the Wizard told us there were about 1500 or so pages of spells he added to his book including 20ish pages on Storm of Vengeance and a spell chain linked Matter Conversion. We were also told the runic structure on the tome made it so that any spell activated was empowered, enlarged, extended, and enhanced with various elemental buffs added to certain spells. After rolling for the percent the DM said the chained activation of all those spells caused 100+ layers of hell to collapse and another 50 or so to be so heavily polluted with bleed off magic rendering them uninhabitable toxic wastelands of chaotic swirling magic.
