Really puts into perspective that kenny has 13 tds in 2 seasons as a 1st rd pick compared to Purdy as the last pick who has throw 44 tds in that same span. My question for Steelers fans is who do you want under center? If the Steelers want their version of Lamar Jackson, Fields may be an option, but if you want a clean slate, the Steelers probably have to risk trading up and take their chances with Jayden Daniels. However, if the Steelers just need an accurate pocket passer like Ben was in his prime, Minshew is available as a backup QB option. Alternatively, maybe Pickett was never the problem, but his coaching, so a competent QB coach may just be what the doctor prescribes to get Pickett's career back on track. There are just too many variables involved with this, but people keep forgetting that Pickett is still in Year 2 of his development. QBs have a higher learning curve, so I'd say you need at least one more year before deciding if Pickett is "the guy" under center. Case in point, Josh Allen. He was erratic and looked terrible for his first 2 years, but finally broke out in year 3, and the Bills are at least stable under center for now. Not implying Pickett is the nest Josh Allen, but I am urging patience for just another year. Right now, though, Pickett either needs a new QB coach, or some competition behind him for motivation. Give it a year, then we will talk again.

I agree that the Steelers have looked middling, and I'm not sure Kenny Pickett is a starter in the NFL. However, I believe the Steelers stagnation can be placed on Ben's reluctance to retire and Canada's terrible schemes. Their offensive scheme with Canada was abysmal. No motions, no creativity, and no pre-snap movement(besides an Allen Robinson motion on an obvious run). I believe that if the Steelers get a good OC that actually utilizes their assets that they can be a threat(with or without Justin Fields). They have a bunch of assets this year that were not being used properly. From Calvin Austin, Darnell Washington, Allen Robinson, and Najee Harris(until the end of the year). With the lack of offensive identity they had this year, and still being 10-7, and giving the Bills a run for their money(that would have been closer without the early mistakes). I think this team is closer to being great than they're given credit for. They were decimated at the linebacker position throughout the year(which is another position that needs to be addressed next year). There's a few positions that need to be addressed, but I think they can win playoff games with the proper OC.

The thing that's really difficult is that the Steelers really need a good QB, but they always win enough games to keep them drafting outside of the top 20, so they're never going to get a high enough pick to select in the draft. They need to either find a later round Brock Purdy type or hope they can fix a veteran QB like Fields or Wilson.
@Jay-nk6dm9 ай бұрын
not steelers related, but when you do your mock draft, please please please do not mock an offensive tackle/linement to the texans. people forget we had like 5 offensive linemen go down, especially our pretty good right tackle tytus howard.

Oh yeah, Brady and Bill too, but over the course of a season having the most talented 2022 starters means very little as many drop off due to injuries throughout the year.

" Having the same discussion a year from now": How about the coach? No playoff wins in seven years. And they made the playoffs this year by being unbelievably lucky after losing to the Cardinals and Colts. The Jaguars collapsed in the final weeks. The Colts lost to the Falcons in week 16.The Steelers beat the Bengals who had a back up quarterback in week 16 and of course faced the Ravens bench team in the last game. Mike Tomlin, like the guy in New England, has passed his time and should have been let go. And a year from now when they miss the playoffs again, people will be asking again. "why is thus guy still here"?

Since Kenny is still young, how much of these tendancies are correctable with good OC and QB coaching? You're channel is great and would be a good analysis for many of the young QB's in the league.

Kenny is 25 going on 26 how can you correct someone that’s been playing football for 7 years already 5 years in college 2 years in pro football what can you correct his limitations are already there. He wears gloves to put the ball in the air and even that’s inconsistent plus you notice he can’t pump fake nobody because he know it’s a fumble waiting to happen a draw back on his physical traits. Also he can’t consistently throw the ball deep enough for anybody to catch it.

They don’t have a QB, they don’t have much on offense that’s particularly scary. Their defense is good, not great. The problems with the way the NFL draft and free agency is structured is best exemplified by the Steelers. They can stay above average, basically forever, but they can’t be great (without some luck). You can’t trade for a great QB without mortgaging your entire franchise (and that QB will be old-ish ala Stafford). You can’t draft can’t miss players (in positions you need) at 20th without some luck. I’m a Texans fan, don’t have much of an opinion on the Steelers. They’re always pretty good, but they’re hardly a barometer of greatness, so I’d rather Houston not see them on their schedule. Beating them will not prove the Texans are a great team next year and losing to them won’t prove they suck. The ravens lost to the Steelers and they are a very good team, so they are evidence of nothing.
@SteelersNation9079 ай бұрын
Bro, Najee, GP, Diontae, Warren and Muth are good, they just need a tackle and a center, and of course a good QB. I hope we sign a great OC. Defense isn't good at all, we allow a lot of yards, in defense we need a corner, more pass rush and probably a linebacker

@nwj03a9 ай бұрын
@Ned Well I wasn’t talking about the Texans, they’ve been terrible for most of their existence. I was talking about the Steelers, or were you confused? Furthermore, you’re only making my point for me. The Steelers are stuck in mediocrity because they can’t get a stroud type QB drafting 20th… or it’s exponentially less likely. The Texans are now probably set at QB for a decade plus, because they sucked so badly for so long. Finding a RB, WR, TE, LB, etc. is cake compared to QB. So yeah, I can talk, about the topic and being right about it.
@jalenjohnson03399 ай бұрын

As a Steelers fan, we're an above average team but being that way for almost a decade means we're far from being great. We need o line including center, d line, ilb, cb/s, and a qb. We're at best 2 years away from serious contention and need all new coaching including coordinators but i don't see that kind of rebuild happening until after Tomlin. Somewhere along the way we lost the grit shown through Campbell and the lions and are a tj watt away from being a bottom 8 team.

Big changes aren’t made in a day. We are hiring a coordinator out of house for the first time in years. We have Kenny on a short lease while still giving him a chance. We have opportunities to shed ourselves of under performers (chuks, mitch, Robinson, etc) that would enable us to get some FAs. Omar Khan’s first draft class was masterfully done. Let’s be level minded about our future and trust the process.

Steelers have their QB1 in Mason. The Eye Test showed me that Mason is a 6'5" strong arm QB with arm talent, QB IQ, Pocket Presence, Poise, and that can deliver the ball to this talented Group of offensive players. I haven't felt this good about a Steelers QB since Big Ben 2017 Season. Resign Mason for 3 year 25 Mil. Steelers have their QB1 in Mason. Let him and Pickett battle it out in Training camp. The NFL is a league of attrition. You need to Good Quality QB's. KP8 is solid. Can he show growth in year 3 is the question. In 2023 the NFL started a historic 58 back ups. Cut Trubisky (3 Mil) post June, Peterson (7 Mil), Cole (5 Mil), Chuks (9Mil) and Robinsons (10Mil)! That's 33 Mil. Do not Resign Levi Wallace. Resign Kwon Alexander and Sullivan! Pick up Najee 5th year option. Extend Muth. Restructure and extend CAM, Ogunjobi, and / or Highsmith or Watt. 3 of the 4. Bring back Allen Robinson great blocker but at a Veteran's minimum. Draft Center is the first Priority. Draft DT Second Priority, Draft CB and ILB are the 3rd and 4th priorities. The Steelers Have Darius Rush (6'2" 200lbs 4.36) and Cory Trice (6'" 3" 206lbs 4.47)who was having a better Training Camp than JPJ before the injury. The key is can he stay Healthy? Rush was solid in his limited time. Play him! And Let the Kahn Artist Go to work and Add Qualities Veterans through Free Agency.
@willhartley51739 ай бұрын
The Steelers cornerback room isn’t all that bad. JPJ is the true 1 we’ve been needing for years. Pat Pete is good against a teams 2nd or 3rd WR. We just need 1 more solid guy between the skill level of JPJ and Pat Pete and we will be fine. And don’t forget Corey Trice will be back next year and while we don’t know for sure what he’s like, the training camp reports were great and I think he can be the 2 if he’s healthy. Now make Pat Pete the 3 and draft 1 more guy in the first 3 rounds and that’s a quality CB room. Sully was fine in the slot and I like our safeties and Pats ability to play slot here and there. And with Eric Rowe coming into the picture, I think him and Minkah make a great FS/SS duo. Bring back Kazee for rotation with Rowe and keep Riley/Pat for Minkah’s rotation. The real needs of this team are to see how well our injured MLB core can recover (probably need to pursue a FA or draft someone) and Center and either LT or RT (if Jones moves back to left). Secure that and we really only need an offensive coordinator and a QB lmao and I think Mason can be a great bridge, or bring in Fields and utilize his 5th year option so you have 1 trial year before deciding if he needs to be paid or not
