Yeah Erik99, I am agreeing 100%.... I just happened to bump into this channel today looking for a cheap pocket type kit I could get used, or a kit I could make out of a crappy used kit using it's16" floor tom for a kick and make a 12" or 13" snare out of one of it's rack toms that I could somehow attach to the homemade kick, slap a handle on it, throw a cheap throne, hat stand and a crash stand w 18" crash/ride into a bag so I don't tear my rotator cuff again schlepping my full kit around like I did 2 weeks ago, I have a feeling rdavidr is my guy, and this is definitely my go to from this point forward, subscribing and SMASHING the like button NOW! That lick at the end was "the business" too! I'll be back!

this guy shares his knowledge and skills about drums. I just can't believe that people comment on dirty finger nails! wtf dirty finger nails are a sign of a working man. this guy goes out of his way to help other drummers and this is the thanks he gets? wtf is wrong with these people. is that all they noticed in this great video? I didn't want to say anything, but someone had to. keep up the great work man.

Great video and that drum really came out nice! The contact wrap actually looks quite good and could be made more durable with a coat of polyurethane. The quick response punchiness is a nice sound and the fluffy reso just adds to it. Are you planning on cutting the rest of that kit down and making a compact travel kit, or was this just a "one-off" kind of project. Especially enjoyed your playing and groove in this video. Well done sir.

@drumsNstuff798 жыл бұрын
Seeing the narrow depth of that drum reminds of the one with the Pearl Rhythm Traveller kit and makes me think you should do a whole narrow depth travel kit. I see a piccolo snare, short stack toms and floor tom all done in matching wood paper to complete the kit. you could have them stack or nest. You know.. i might do that myself.. off to Craiglist!

@viridian_meridian8 жыл бұрын
All that fabric on the res head, plus the short depth, plus burying the beater while playing it. I can imagine that it's not very loud in person. Can it actually hold it's own with the rest of the kit if it's not mic'd up? Probably a really cool kick to pair up with brush/non-stick playing or percussion set-ups, if you wanted to get a punchy sound without huge volume. It does look really badass too.
@rdavidr8 жыл бұрын
yeah it blends well with everything in person. A regular reso and maybe an emad would really make this thing sing though.
@BoxUpMyBones8 жыл бұрын
If you do this, I'd love to hear it! I've always wanted a shallow kick, myself. More specifically a 24x14. I've got a 24x18 currently, and it's beast. But having that shallow depth would probably give it a TON of attack.

I love this idea. I took the wraps off of my drums years ago. I then stained them, but never liked the result. My bass drum is pretty deep and I don't want, nor do I have the tools necessary, to cut it down to a certain size. Where would you recommend getting contact paper that's large enough to cover it's width?

There's no bell so I honestly don't think it would work. It wouldn't really sound trashy, it would sound like shit. Not even like the purposeful dirty, shit sound that trash stack cymbals have, just pure trash, probably not even worth pursuing but who knows maybe it sounds good
