A tip I'd like to give u from a guitarist, but it's gonna sound a bit weird. It has just helped me on my journey. If u don't feel like playing the guitar for some time, don't force urself. If u have like a 15 to 30 minutes a day kindoff schedule, don't stick to it very strictly. If u feel like putting the guitar down for a week, it won't be the end of the world. And on the other side, if u feel like playing 6 hours straight for a week, do that too. Don't say "that's enough for today" If you're still motivated to learn or play around.

Protip: if you want to buy brand new fresh strings, get coated ones like Elixir or Ernie Ball Paradigm or something like that. They're more expensive and won't sound quite as good as uncoated ones, but you can play them for hours every single day for literal years and they'll still feel brand new and fresh. "Normal" strings will start to wear out and sound dull after maybe 50-100 hours of use. Then you have to change them out again.

Bought Elixir for my LP over a year ago. Strings still feel like fresh. I play my guitar from time to time since I mainly play bass. As for bass, Elixir is losing brightness same as uncoated ones.

I taught kids how to play guitar for a few years and there's a couple things I'd recommend while you start. Buy a metronome or download an app. You won't be playing a song up to speed at the start, but getting the rhythms down early will benefit you in the long run. I'd pick a song you really like, even if it is kinda hard. It shouldn't be the only song you learn, but it's nice when you've spent a week working on something you don't specifically care about to try something you love for a bit. It tends to work best if you play a bit every day rather than a ton once a week. I normally told the kids to play right when they wake up and right before bed for maybe 10 minutes. As for chords, I recommend working on them while you do something else. Sitting on the couch, watching TV, practice moving from shape to shape quickly and accurately. Take your time and and be patient with yourself. We all sucked when we started. We all hated how our fingers felt after a few hours. If I can learn to play the guitar, though, anyone can. You got this.

Those are great goals. You already have amazing hand eye coordination from GH, which will help you so much with reading tabs/sight reading skills, and developing hand-ear connection. Just remember that it's ok to feel discouraged if things don't click as fast as you think they could. It mainly just takes a lot of time and experience, but based off of your finger-button mashtery, I think we're in for a real treat \m/

Awesome bro, as a fellow guitarists, I welcome you to the community. P.S. if you don't already know, the pickup closest to the bridge (The bridge pickup) is a humbucking pickup, usually used for harder rock, metal, or just overall anything you don't want the hum for. The single coils are the other two pickups, usually used for things like country, classic rock, that kind of thing. Looks like a great guitar for a beginner.

Good for you, man! Real guitar is really tough. I need to get back on practicing it. PS, I always loved your aversion towards the "bleep bloop" songs that have basically become what Guitar Hero is now. I know it's an opinion, but we all have our opinions. You will always be one of the best GH players of all time.

I've been playing for about 15 years. Rocksmith can help you get a bit more fluent and help you learn a song for sure. The one thing that it doesn't really help with is the smaller technique aspects like right hand positioning, maybe look for specific videos about that. I struggled with that in the beginning and thought little of it because i got through songs fine, but later on with more difficult stuff little details just make it easier. As for transitioning between chords, what u did was learn switching between 2 of them and then gradually speeding that switch up. Metronome is your friend, learn something slow and then slowly transition to a quicker tempo.

Hey George , great to see you here aswell! Ive bought my guitar last year during the beginning of the lockdown here in Belgium... ive learned to play through youtube videos/lessons but mainly through Rocksmith! For me personally it helps a lot to improve certain aspects of the guitar en it keeps me engaged to keep on playing due to the fact you can jam along with your favorite tracks ... i also suggest to check the site for the custom dlc tracks the community makes. To guide you through the Rocksmith community , you should ask Chainbrain ( KZbin Twitch ) some stuff because he plays rocksmith as a main thing on his channels! Cheers lad , stay good!

So excited to see your progress! You inspired me to pick the guitar back up again, so I'm gonna have some fun learning along side you. Quick tip, if you have an audio interface, look up RS_ASIO. It's a couple of files you add to your Rocksmith folder that let's you play with the guitar plugged into an audio interface instead of using the real tone cable. You'll have better sound quality and less lag this way.

I made the same transition to Rocksmith when the GH Live servers shut down, haven't regretted a minute of it. I highly recommend Like A Stone for your whole song, its an easy great song, plus it has a decent solo. Keep at it bro, good luck! P.S. I think I faced you a couple times in GH Live rivals unless someone stole your gamertag lol if you remember someone having twice as many star power on Mountain Song its cuz the game glitched, only reason I won, you wrecked me on the Jake Bugg song

I think the game is useful just to get your fingers moving, the feel of the guitar, and the weight and confidence. It's also good for getting used to picking individual strings without having to look. I think people worry too much about using it to "learn songs" which I'm not sure it's really about.

Good luck dude. Just a bit of advice, if you are having trouble getting your hands to an F chord formation, you can play an F chord by just barring the first fret and playing an E. It's way easier on your hands.

Learn basic major and minor chords, pick a song you want to play (most important part) and once you get those down try adding the melody to the chords. But in all seriousness, check these songs from default Rocksmith'14 setlist: R.E.M. - "Losing My Religion" - chords all the way along Ramones - "Blitzkrieg Bop" - power chords (3 notes, 3 fingers, easy mode to master in a few hours) La Sera - "Love That's Gone" - perfect for starting to play guitar. very slow, very soft, helps to develop brain to read Rocksmith charts. The Shins - "For a Fool" - Same as one above Gold Motel - "Brand New Kind of Blue" - good for melodies and quick switching from singular notes to chords Muse - "Knights of Cydonia" - Advanced beginner song, very VERY useful when you learn all above. And consider to check CDLC community at customforge.org. You can find most of the songs out there if they were not registered as official DLCs for RS'14 yet. Also it is sort of pretty easy to make CDLCs, so be aware that community will storm you with their meme CDLCs Good luck!

I think it would be good if you took your guitar to a luthier, at least once when you are starting. Tell him to set a guitar for a beginner and you'll be good to go :) also try to use light strings when starting out, 9's or even 8's so you'd be more comfortable. Someone in the comments recommened Elixirs, they are awesome :)
