The Plane Isn't Done Flying

This is something I learned the hard way. An Arizona clear air dust devil just about ended my flying career. Keep adding back pressure once you touch down, and hold it there. The back pressure gives added aerodynamic braking to help slow you down. Then, stay conscious of the direction of the wind adding appropriate control for the wind, all the way to the hangar! And never taxi faster than a brisk walk. 30/30 One more to go!

30 for 30, albeit a couple days behind schedule. I learned how to fly in a tailwheel airplane, so the term "fly it all the way to the hangar" was pounded into my brain from the very beginning. Tailwheel planes are much more unforgiving than tricycle gear planes when it comes to distractions during taxi. This has been a great series, Jason!

And you are right "A Good Pilot is Always Learning". I would like to hear your thoughts on becoming a CFI for someone in their mid 60's.

I will not reach 31 for 31. Living in France the 31st will not be compatible with my daily duties. For the fun, I flew this afternoon and I made 3 for3 times the centerline with a precise touching point at the end of the transition... Thank you for the videos. Very helpful and useful for the amateur pilot that I am.

30/30. I'll keep flying all the way to the hangar or, more likely, tie-down, thanks! Regarding aerodynamic braking, I'd add that besides making the main wheel brakes more effective, keeping the nose up for as long as possible causes a larger cross-sectional area and thus larger drag.

30 for 30. I promise to fly it ALL the way to the hanger. Yesterday I was coming home from MIA and the flight started out hectic. First the pilots came on after minutes of waiting at the gate with him saying that the jetway was stuck and a mechanic was coming. Then after the mechanic fixed the problem, there was another jet paused behind us. I felt the chain of events coming together even more since it was late, and when the pilots started rushing the taxi. It was uncomfortable, due to really feeling the bumps on taxi, but we got the wheels up safely because they hit the pause button before takeoff. This reminded me of your N245TA story with Matt.

30 for 30. That was taught to me quickly after one crosswind landing where I didn't keep the crosswind correction in and the wing almost lifted on me. That was a great object lesson and I now fly the plane from startup to shutdown.
