Many years ago I watched Paul Sunderland (I think) interview Vin Scully, Chick Hearn and Bob Miller, all at the same time. That was amazing. Toward the end, Vin Scully said, "The one thing I want to hear, is Bob Miller say, 'Ladies and gentlemen the Los Angeles Kings are the Stanley Cup Champions.'"
@christiancollins42647 жыл бұрын
bbigjohnson069 it was Bill MacDonald - I well remember that roundtable...Chick had title rings, Vin had title rings, poor Bob just had his wedding ring! Now he's about to retire with 2 Cup rings. So happy for him.

Been a fan since the mid-70s. I learned to understand hockey through Bob Miller, never having played it myself. And yeah, it was a very rough ride. But you're right, finally winning it made all those heartbreaks worthwhile.

Bob Miller & Nick Nixson have the 2 best play by play voices in history and I wish Nick took over for Bob on TV when he retired. What beautiful tone & pace their voices have. 2012 Stanley Cup run was so improbable as a very low seed but they went 16-4 and win almost every road game. The best thrill of my sports spectator life & after 45 yrs of disappointments, when they won it.

Bob Miller is the Kings. The best thing about winning it all was seeing him finally get hoist the Stanley Cup over his head and get that ring. Nobody deserved it more than Miller.

It was just incredible...I wasn't old enough for Bill King calling the Los Angeles Raiders championship in January 1984, but I remember Chick Hearn for the Lakers, Vin Scully (on NBC ironically) in 1988 for the Dodgers...and finally Bob Miller got to call a championship for the Kings. That was amazing.

In the city that has the Lakers, Dodgers, Clippers, UCLA basketball and USC football there may be no more loyal and dedicated fans in Los Angeles than Kings fans. For so many years the Kings struggled and hockey had a hard time getting a foothold in southern California, but their fans never gave up on them. Then 2012 and then two years later they won the Stanley Cup. Even though they've struggled a little bit the last three years you can make the argument that the Kings are the strongest sports franchise in the area. They worked hard to earn it.

I recorded the last 5:30 or so of Game 6 radio broadcast. After Trevor Lewis scores into the empty net which made it 5-1, Nick Nickson says, "Can you start to taste it right now?" Then you hear Daryl Evans kind of laugh a little. It's like, YES!
@15lafan11 жыл бұрын
I had the privilege of sitting in with Daryl Evans and Nick Nickson in the radio booth when the Kings played the Oilers which was the 80th game of the season. And I remember after they won 2-0, I thought to myself, "how cool would it be if the Kings actually won the Stanley cup?" And they did. I honestly had some tears roll down my eyes when listening to what Bob Miller said. Happiest night of my life. Sad that there will be no more episodes.

I'm struck - and of course, it totally had to do with the circumstances of the clinching games - by the difference between the end of Game 6 in 2012, where the end of the game was a foregone conclusion and it obviously was the team's first title, and the end of Game 5 in 2014 in 2OT...I still remember how tense I was just watching across the street at the old ESPN Zone in 2012, and even when it was 4-1 late in the third, I was nervous...and then being in the building for Game 5 in 2014, having already dealt with two OTs (and 3 OT periods) in the first two games...and the release in that building when Martinez scored, and later seeing the announcer's reactions... Nick talked about (in this video) how the buzzer sounded longer than it had before...well, in 2014 I was afraid that Kings musical director Dieter Ruehle had slumped over the horn button, as long as it went...one minute of that airhorn sounds like ten! But it was all good. It was good to hold the Cup for 2 of 3 seasons. No disrespect to other teams that haven't been there yet - San Jose came close, Tampa could have had its 2nd last year, and of course Chicago had its stretch, the Islanders had 4 in a row, Montreal has all of theirs...but as an LA native, to go into STAPLES Center and see those banners hanging...epic.

I most recently got my Stanley Cup Moments BluRay/DVD combo pack in the mail yesterday, and it's worth every penny I paid for it. It now sets alongside my home-recorded DVD of Game 6 off NBC (off of KONG-TV Channel 16 here in nearby Seattle plus the NBCSN postgame that followed), the DVD of Bob & Jim/Nick & Daryl and their calls done LIVE that came with the limited-supplied commemorative book, and also the official Warner Home Video release of the Kings 2011-12 Stanley Cup Champions DVD
