Same exact thing happened to my launch day PS5 it lasted about less than a year till I got the triple beeps then I bought a whole new LED Board for it as I couldn't find someone selling flex cables alone! & Replaced it myself & its still working to this day! The flex cable had come loose from the tape & ended up being damaged & this happened within the 1st year of having the launch day console

Could a quick fix before the cable gets damaged be, to fit a sticky sponge thermal pad, then stick the cable with a lable ontop of that? Just throwing out ideas. But yeh, designing a longer cable would be the sensible thing from Sony.

I can’t stand ribbon cables. That particular one is super cheaply made and thin. The shim also un-sticks . That cable should have been a better connector/wire assembly, or re-located. There’s plenty of room on that board.

I am amazed at how many of these console repair videos include a damaged HDMI port. Is it really too complicated for some folks to plug/unplug an HDMI cable without causing damage?

It has a flawed hdmi port from the factory so if you plug it in too hard you could break it

Even if the problem with that ribbon potentially moving out of place was discovered after the design was completed there is tape they can use that won't release or fail under high temperature. Of course it's better to do it properly, but what Sony did was sure to fail.

Excellent suggestion to Sony to move the ribbon cable, except...... putting it behind the wifi antenna will mess up wifi. You need that to be away from the ribbon cable to make sure there is no shielding and interference. I am sure that Sony engineers can think about it for 3 minutes, come up with an excellent solution and spend the next 7 months in meetings with every department in Sony to get the change approved.

I watched a video about how to wire an Openreach phone socket with DSL filter and by the time he was done talking fiber optics had been deployed throughout the building... 😁🤣 BTW, you know what Sony put in close proximity of the heatsink in the PS5 slim? The CR2032 battery... 🙄

I think the ribbon cable of the PS4 slim power button is longer and has the same number of pins than the one of the ps5

Phil, it sounds like you need to help by selling a ‘fan cleaning kit’ which includes a brush etc plus new sticky tape to overcome this problem.

Ppl aren't fully taking the console apart to fix it as to replace the tape you would have to take off the top plate to gain access to the the heat sink

Probably more of a cost saving measure then a flaw. Save a penny here and there. Multipled over millions of consoles and it adds up. At the end of the day, the bottom line wins and so comes the questionable shortcuts.
