Yeah idk if ppl who criticize remote play in general know how the internet works but remote play works about as well as I expect. At my job 55 miles away in downtown on 5G(UC) it works just fine. When I handover to LTE or "non-uc 5G" it's terrible. On my home wifi it's perfect. On wifi at a hotel it's perfect. But. I had 35 Mbps upload (that Cox upgraded to 100 Mbps recently for everyone on gigablast), and my PS5 is on Ethernet. 🤷🏾♂️

@@InvictusRed1911 the main issue for me isn't the tech, it's that it's ONLY that. What happens if you have a power outage at your home? Boom, you now have a 200$ paperweight. It does nothing else. And there lies the reason it's not a good device. Xbox has has console streaming forever also. Something like an ROG Ally can even do it. But the Ally, while more expensive, can do so much more. Even the Steam Deck has so much more capabilities than the Portal. So while Remote Play may not be useless, I know since my best friend from Germany connects to my PC via Parsec remote play and we play games together, the issue is that the Portal ONLY does that. It does literally nothing else. And a 200$ device that can't do anything else, it's a waste. Plus, that's 200$ if you have a PS5 already. For someone like me, who doesn't, that cost is now minimum 600$.

The entire Wii U console and gamepad was just $300 in 2012. If you don’t have a PS5 yet, then you’re shelling out $600 to $700 just to have a similar experience. Meanwhile the Switch (dockable versions) is $300 - $350, and the base Steam Deck after buying its optional dock comes to $490 (and also supports Steam link so you can stream from your gaming PC to the Deck). Both are dedicated handhelds allowing for native play anywhere. It's a little bulky and you have to dedicate a PS5 controller for bluetooth (have to reconnect to the PS5 if I want to use it for the TV). As for the phone option, I have the Pixel Fold so the Backbone does not fit. It is wobbly and half of the screen goes towards the bottom of the controller rather than upwards. Highly recommend to NOT buy the Backbone if you have the Pixel Fold. Anyways since having my child I use Remote Play 95% of the time and the PlayStation Portal fits perfectly for me. Granted the proprietary protocol for headphones is absolute trash and speaks greed. I will NOT buy any of those headphones and I hope no one does as well.

A difference with remote play is that the stream goes out to the internet and then back to your phone. With this Portal device, the stream doesn't leave your local wifi network (if you're at home). It goes from the PS5 to the Portal directly so lag should be much better than remote play.
@rileybusse9351 Жыл бұрын
Also, you can play remote play on this device because it is a remote play. Only device we will get cloud streaming later. Sony has already confirmed it and we might get Bluetooth later. We have to wait and see but for sure we’re getting cloud gaming later in a couple of months by next year, at least in 2024, but since this thing is remote play, I know it’s only for PS five but it says it’s a remote play only device so I’m wondering if you can use this on PS4 if so, it’s totally worth the $200 And just think about it you can play while you’re on your couch and it’s a PlayStation controller with a screen in the middle. It literally connects the same way that a PlayStation does you connect it to the PlayStation so it can recognize the device by plugging it into the PlayStation, and then after that you can just play , unless you could just play by turning on the device and logging in I’m not really sure if you have to connect it to the consul right away that’s fine just like the normal controller when you first get it which would make more sense but also at last 8 to 9 hours More than the six hours on the Nintendo switch OLED people said it would only last three hours and there is battery test on the Internet but those are accurate because clearly I was able to get over six hours on my Nintendo switch. Maybe they just had an old battery or something I’m not sure but either way I got my old Nintendo switch in 2023 someone said to wait for the next one and I’m like well it’s old it’s way better than LCD in the switch to is supposed to be LCD so that’s not an upgrade at all but either way this thing has an LCD screen but I’m sure it’s way better than my TV and my TV is an OLED screen and any old LCD device that I currently own is better than it which is weird because it’s an OLED TV, but it’s made by the company Vizio. Apparently they don’t have very good old lead panels for watching TV. It’s perfect but for video games it’s definitely not as sharp as my old Nintendo switch while watching you always win or any other videos on KZbin which is really weird but either way, I’m pretty sure this would have a way better screen but it’s literally a portable screen if they put an OLED in this portable device like the Nintendo switch or the PlayStation vita hands-down both of them would be $400 or more. I know this switch was $400 for the OLED model I’m saying if they put the OLED panel that’s in the Nintendo switch in the PlayStation Vita back in the day it would’ve been $400 instead of 200 so that’s why they did not put an OLED screen in, the PlayStation portal because OLED costs more yes, I would love a portable system from Sony again like the PSP and PS Vita again but this is as close as we’re going to get but if you think about it, they probably don’t want to do that again because the PlayStation Vida was $200 didn’t have very good graphics or games even the PlayStation TV and that didn’t even play most PS Vita games on the TV and they were both $200 and they both failed so I don’t think Sony wants to do that again so remote play is the way to go trust me if they did a PlayStation five portable that worked normally even if it lost connection you could still play games by yourself. You just couldn’t play online. If you lose connection with this thing you can’t play at all but I mean that makes sense it’s a remote play device people know what they’re getting. Most people will know what they’re asking for, but I do think it could have a PS five separately where if you’re using this thing you can play PS five without having to be connected to your PlayStation, but most people are gonna tell their parents what they want and what it does so they will have more understanding they’re not just gonna go out and buy it thinking it’s a portable PS five that you can play PS five if you don’t have a PS5 console in order to play it most people are gonna know they’re not that stupid they will educate their parents on that stuff Tech enthusiast even if we don’t know much about technology, including the person that asked for it from their parents they’re gonna tell their parents and educate them more on what it is they’re not just gonna tell them to get it and then they can’t use it because they don’t have a PS5 most people are educated even the most people that aren’t educated now stuff people aren’t dumb people anyways, some people are still dumb actually, there are a lot of people that are stupid and dumb and believe everything those people are going to be going to hell but for the people that actually know stuff and know that this thing does certain things that other things can’t and doesn’t do certain things that other things can I’m sure people will know when they get it for their kid that it’s gonna do what it does because they’re going to look into it rather than just assuming you should never assume if you just assume your woke and everyone knows everything woke turn to shit

If it could be a second controller/split screen for some games it would have amazing but just a Wifi controller with Wii U type display? Just buy a 60 controller and use a laptop or phone with remote play

I preordered mine the minute they opened them. I think it’ll be a hit. I mainly plan on playing it at home and have always wanted my Switch to play the big time AAA games on the go so this sounds good. To be able to wake up and play this in bed will be sick.
@DemonEdge82 Жыл бұрын
Lmao you think it’s gonna be a hit?
@BoilingKoolaid Жыл бұрын
It seems like exactly what I think it is. I get to play while I watch TV or lay in bed in my bedroom, or connect to my hotspot while I’m traveling. And I don’t have to take my phone case off like i would with a backbone.
@DuncDog Жыл бұрын
To be fair, do you want to add Bluetooth latency on top of Wi-Fi latency for the sound that's already delayed? It has a headphone jack and what I believe is the normal dualsense dac. Just use the 3.5mm jack everyone is moaning that they want all the time.

Soooo would it work if my PlayStation is on in California but I’m on my way to Japan will I still be able to use it internationally? Or will it be a bust 😕 I was kind of hyped when I heard this was coming out honestly.

I'm interested to see just how well it can handle connection on good internet, but I'm very excited for a device where I can play something like baldur's gate 3 and watch NFL games at the same time with dedicated dualsense controls
@jacobhrl Жыл бұрын
Idk what everyone expected from a piece of gaming hardware that is only $200. A dualsense controller alone costs $80, and with a big 8" 1080p60fps screen stuck in between it. For what it's capable of that's worth $200 for me. If it was capable of what people are saying it should be, then it would cost just as much as the PS5 console itself

This will only work in the same wifi network, it's not going to work over internet.
@ShaneMacPhee Жыл бұрын
Playstation link is not wifi direct. It is just a 2.4 GHz connection. It will require a dongle on the ps5 to use it on the ps5 or no dongle needed on the portal cause it basically has a dongle built in. Basically it's the same tech that we've already seen in the pulse 3d headset and every other non Bluetooth wireless headset.
@AxelSkellington Жыл бұрын
I thought you had to be on the same network for it to work?
@paulaassis3065 Жыл бұрын
I mean, you could also get a really good phone and attach the Backbone One to it, then you'd get access to way more gaming libraries. Game pass, retro, etc.

I totally get their exasperation with the proprietary wireless audio codec, but it's not a huge deal, it has a headphone jack, use some wired earbuds/headphones and you're fine.
@jambononi Жыл бұрын
Sure it's just the principle of it. It's really bizarre!
@sboinkthelegday3892 Жыл бұрын
The protocol is an equal competitor to Bluetooth, that is filling the world with trash Chinese airpods because the ALSO PROPRIETARY tech in BT is essentially up for grabs. It's only "convenient" because scum like Brownlee use this tech as DISPOSABLE, even when it's full of child labor cobalt in the batteries. In time, JUST LIKE when Sony among others PAID for the devlopment of DVD, anyone can just start to license the Sony Live stuff. Unless anti-labor influencers don't even let it get off the ground by crying misinformation about the tech, and if you're evil enough to believe it when you have ready access to Google helping you know better.
@Otacon1105 Жыл бұрын
@@jambononipretty much no console supports Bluetooth audio, for good reason. The switch added support eventually and it’s pretty bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was largely not having to deal with people blaming the device for audio lag because they’re trying to connect drug store true wireless headphones to it.

Now with windows-based handhelds like Asus and Lenovo etc. are in. we also have an option to install PS remote play windows app and play ps5 games on it instead of getting a PS portal.

I use remote play with my MacBook and P5 controller, but in my own home so idk maybe if I have an extra $200 one check I might get it, but it’s really not necessary for me rn..

I think people forget Xbox has proprietary wireless headphones as well, it’s just people have gotten used to it. A lot of grips about the Portal aren’t new it’s just the new thing from PlayStation. I’m glad it’s a potential better connection to my PlayStation to play all my games and have access to PlayStation Plus library without the need to buy more games, more memory cards, and a fear of another handheld Sony drops after a few years. Keep in mind this is an accessory, not a console.

2:08 nope only can play local and only the games you own. Can’t use your subscription.
@bosstowndynamics5488 Жыл бұрын
What's a subscription got to do with it? They're talking about streaming from your own PS5 over the internet. There's no technical reason it can't, it uses all of the same protocols, it just comes down to whether Sony soft locked it from streaming between networks.

The audio just goes through the USB dongle and that’s also how they can obtain PC Mac support. But for the life of me I just don’t get why Sony has to use these audio dongles. There’s a lot of space in the system just build it in… it’s annoying to look at

I’ve used Remote play on many devices. On the phone with cellular internet service it’s good on Wi-Fi tablets has to have a good connection. The PC at work connected to Ethernet works like I’m home. I think as long as the PS5 is connected to Ethernet at home it will work fine. Now when I use it work I use headphones on the remote so I don’t mind not having Bluetooth on the portable. What I’d like to know is if the device is running on a android OS for possibilities.

As someone who uses Remote play on an iPhone with a Backbone, this device will probably replace that. iPhone 15 is going to have USB-C so im going to need a new backbone in 2 weeks. Think id rather spend the extra and get this.

i guess the only thing that seperates this Portal from the rest of the remote play platforms is the playstation link feature. I'll have to wait and see actually how good the latency is with that.

but what is the PS5 is attached to the main living room TV... you dont have cable & use the PS5 to watch KZbin, Netflix, etc...then you're stuck.
@joedanero5360 Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest problem with the portal right now is people with money and people without. Sony announces an accessory to remote play with. It's not even out and a lot of people are complaining about a lot of nonsense about it. It hasn't even had a chance to flop and people are already running their mouths. Don't buy it....if you even have a PS5.
