...and they were, up to 1982 you could get a wonderful feeling of that with the exception of "clean air" and Orange Groves. Now it's all dirty and mucky full of homeless everywhere. It's as if no one took care of California. When I first moved to L.A. I lived in Hollywood it was fun and wonderful, then I moved to Beverly hills, you could feel excited to be there knowing all those stars were in your neighborhood, well... now you don't even know who or what is your neighbor. So I moved back to NYC, never been happier. And being retired doesn't hurt any.😊

@@bejoyful I'm sorry it took so long to answer but, had internet problems. I'll tell you the short version and I'm not political. It used to be "us" in California we took care of us, now it's them, they and those, we have been divided so much that no one cares anymore. Hence nobody cares about the State of California anymore that is why it's gone down way down. When it was "us" problems were fixed immediately and life was good for everyone. I hope your question was answered.

As a bit of a fan of Ms Ball, I wonder if it was a case of her getting older or was it that she had just " milked " her character for too long? If you look at the writing credits for her different series, they all featured, at some point, the same three writers that she had started with at I Love Lucy. Lucy as a slightly cockeyed grandmother might have worked as a series.

We lived near Jamestown, in Olean, NY, where we purchased a leather topped desk at a fundraiser, an auction. The story was that this desk had belonged to a man Lucy dated, somewhat seriously before going to California. I've never found a reference to a boyfriend who became a doctor, now I'm wondering if the desk belonged to "Doc"?

Love the stuff I'm hearing about for the first time but I can't help but think that it's just snobbishness that you completely glossed over her non-showgirl appearance while at Columbia in a 1934 Three Stooges Short, 'Three Little Pigskins'. I know she said that the only thing she learned from the Stooges was "how to duck", but I'd still like to hear about it.

@@kjgammon1658 in all sincerety , i like all these people for taking an interest in Lucille Ball who was the epitome of gracious ,kind living , led her life according to her principles of good ,clean entertainment for her public ,so if in this day and age , when i hear of all our beloved authors being banned ( P.G Wodehouse , Enid Blyton , Agatha Christi etc) and comic book heroes taking on, new , unnecessary gay identities ,its heartening to see people still taking an interest in good old Lucy As an aside ,when i recently lost my brother ( who was ten years younger...i had literally brought him up ) and suffered a mild heart attack due to all the crying , Lucy and her shenanigans were what kept me afloat . I admire her as a woman who triumphed in a man's world and did not compromise on her principles to the end of her days Bravo Lucy you still have diehard fans !

… maybe it’s not your “gut feeling,” it’s just indigestion. Because television and even film entertainment would not have been the same without the great Lucille Ball. And if you listened to this episode, you were told that she wanted to bring her family out to California. And she did it! Ginger Rogers had her mother to help her. Lucille Ball did it on her own … Lucille Ball was a gutsy lady; maybe not classy, but certainly gutsy. Give her the respect due her.

Beginning around 1960, Lucy started behaving brittle and impatient in general and never grew out of it. After Desi basically checked out of the marriage, Lucy ended up settling on Gary Morton, who tried acting like a boss on her other shows but wasn't Desi.
