Desi always dressed so Sharp. Looked sharp. And always has a smooth presence. And played drums. Rock star before rock stars existed.

Though Lucy was obviously a brilliant comedian, I have to say that my favorite cast member of I Love Lucy is Desi. He's a very natural, very underrated actor who was probably capable of even better than he ever got the chance to demonstrate.

Unbelievable, not only did they both have a 16 year young trauma happening in their lives (Desi came to the US after a revolution, and Lucy's grandpa with the shooting incident.) Both were struggling to eat and "stole" food, Desi in his sleeves and Lucy in either a bag full of rolls without middle, where she put meat, potatoes etc.. and at restaurants where she waited for people to go, then slid in their places to order another coffee and a doughnut... They were pretty much leading the same life as well by taking care of their family, their moms. This is amazing.

There is a problem here, though: Lucy was NOT a redhead in the year Desi met her in 194O. At that time, Lucy was Ashen Blonde. The red hair came 21/2 years later. For her role in DU BARRY WAS A LADY (1943), hairdresser Sydney Guilaroff dyed Lucille's tresses a flame red for her role. She kept it that way for the next 46 years.

I think if you listen to the audio interview, Desi said she was a blonde then.

MY GAWD, Lucy and Desi could have entertained just by telling stories. Amazing how both their lives took such similar paths, and unfortunately their marriage was proof that opposites may attract, but LIKES repel.

If only we could see them, but this is neat, gathered around the ole radio listening to Ben narrate is real relaxing, this is well put together, well done Lucy and Desi were so funny and wanted the same things in life, I'm almost the same age as the daughter, always had a crush on the brother, have a great day . Listening from Montana, USA.

Personally, I still do not see what Lucille Ball saw in Desi Arnaz, but there must have been some type of chemistry between them. Lucille had much more of an "air of distinction" about her. Oh well, I suppose love is blind.
@brianoyler4777
@brianoyler4777 3 жыл бұрын
@Be Ci No, I am not comparing Desi and Lucille's upbringings with the " air of distinction" remark. Lucille Ball was already in her way to a solid movie career before she ever met Desi. I am wondering why she even bothered or was interested in him. Like I commented, there must have been some chemistry.

@Be Ci Also, Lucille's grandfather took the brunt of a shooting accident which took place in his property. He was the only adult present and was the victim of lawsuit by the parents of shooting victim. The entire accident was case of wrong time, wrong place. I don't think Lucille was even present when this accident happened.

Attraction is subconscious. It has to do with how your parents treated you. We are attracted to people who will treat us the way our parents did. We recreate the pain in a subconscious attempt to deal with it.

I agree - when they met Lucille had acted in many movies - many I think were wonderful. Desi looked very young, not too attractive (to me) and I think he was shorter.

@Be Ci what a strange response - Lucy gf imprisoned for a crime (an accident). Also, Desi's father- was imprisoned in Cuba (political). So what's your point?

You know I hate to say this. But what I seem to be hearing is that Desi was part of the elite from birth. I really like Desi. But I could imagine me not liking him. If that revolution didn't happen. 🙁

I enjoyed this episode. There was a lot about Desi Arnaz that I didn’t know about. However, I would have preferred if the “F” word had been bleeped out. I really don’t like that word. Yes, I know I sound like a prude. Looking forward to Episode 5.
