The part where you came across the snake on the trail is totally me! I did the same thing last weekend in Big Sur, made a slight detour to avoid a snake sunbathing!

Your so funny (and passionate). I wanted to say that and a bunch of other stuff in the last video that has comments turned off. I don't know why I like commenting so much. Oh, I remember what I wanted to say in the last video about the mules . . . bear's don't like mules so they try and stay away from them. I thought that was comforting the first time I heard that. The first time I discovered that the mules wandered free all night was by Benson Lake on the PCT and I camped 5 feet from the trail and mules were walking past half the night. It was the next day someone told me they wandered free and that bears dont like them. @8:45 . . . When I was young I could walk logs all day but now that I'm old and take a pill that makes me dizzy I'm afraid of them but manage to get across them anyway but I have a heart attack on a lot of them.

Just found your vlog. Thank you very much for sharing. You have great presence on camera. Although you didn’t get close enough for a proper ID, the snake was most likely a Coastal Rubber Boa. I’ve been hiking for 40 years in Western Washington and have only seen 3 in the wild. They move very slowly since the weather is very cool for reptiles. They have to wait for a small mammal (mouse).to crawl over them to have any chance of catching it. They only eat once or twice each season. They are long lived with only a few predators like martens, weasels and raptors. I wish you many fine hiking adventures.

I hike in the North Cascades often and though I've never seen one there, I still live in the constant free of running into a rattlesnake.

Snakes are no Bueno I had an encounter with a Timber Rattler in New Mexico when I was in Boy Scouts I'm not sure how many videos I am into this series now but your way of putting your story together leads one to want to watch a lot of your videos your personality really comes through I like how you have the Personal Touch with a lot of the people you encounter and sharing a bit of the story👍 Seems to always be interesting conversation to be had at campfires at night sharing a meal with new-found Adventures One thing I do try to do I go to big parks and multiple day trips I always try to bring extra Band-Aid blister bandages cuz I've met quite a few people that had some issues with their feet you never know when you can save someone's day

I know you said that in your first episode you're not much of a planner(respect, same!) but were there any points on the PNT you were like "holy s**t wish I saw this coming?" Asking cause I'm heading out in a couple weeks w very little preparation. Love this series btw

Ooooo! How exciting!! Yes there were two areas where I wish I would have done some research. There is a section called Lionshead, I believe it's in Idaho, right before you hit Upper Priest Lake. Its the Lionshead Bushwhack. You're going to go the whole day with no trail. I wish I would have started earlier that morning instead of late morning. I was scrambling for light, and there is zero place to pitch a tent. So start that day early. And I hit the Olympics mid September and it was very cold and wet. I did not expect that and didn't bring the right rain gear. (= Enjoy! Let me know if you need anything else.
