One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Pandora bought me here in 2023. I’m playing it on guitar in honor of my wife. Cancer took her at 44. Makes me cry.

Had only ever heard 3 Pogues songs before.. (not gonna pretend to be a Poges fan just because Shane's dead) only first heard this song a couple of weeks ago after watching Shane's funeral. How has this most beautiful song I've ever heard been around for nearly 40 years and I've never heard it. I was totally blown away the first time I heard it and can't stop listening to it
@theinternationalvoyager7 ай бұрын
I am not proud to say that I had never heard of the Pogues before Shane's death. Since then I've been listening to these songs and they are amazing. I can't stop listening to this one either. "Still there's a light I hold before be/You're the measure of my dreams" is so mesmerizing -- I can't get that lyric out of my mind. How haunting and pure and true

I've been loving you a long time Down all the years, down all the days And I've cried for all your troubles Smiled at your funny little ways We watched our friends grow up together And we saw them as they fell Some of them fell into Heaven Some of them fell into Hell I took shelter from a shower And I stepped into your arms On a rainy night in Soho The wind was whistling all its charms I sang you all my sorrows You told me all your joys Whatever happened to that old song? To all those little girls and boys Sometimes I'd wake up in the morning The ginger lady by my bed Covered in a cloak of silence I'd hear you talking in my head I'm not singing for the future I'm not dreaming of the past I'm not talking of the first times I never think about the last Now the song is nearly over We may never find out what it means Still there's a light I hold before me You're the measure of my dreams The measure of my dreams Source: Musixmatch

around 1985 ish a friend of mine, left this cassette in My car. He never got it back. Been one of My top three favorite bands since. In a side note, I was at an Elvis costello concert in around 1985 and We were waiting for Elvis to come out the back door . We waited about an hour after the concert. There was this Girl also waiting for Elvis sitting on a short brick planter wall. When Elvis car came out She got up and got in the car. I then recognized it wair Cait O Roiden the bass player from the poges who was at that time either his wife or almost his wife. I never said a word to Her. I missed out. I dont see Her here
