People who believe the pogues were just a largely irrelevant drunken rabble with a Christmas song should listen to this. Mid 80s they were banging out gigs like this night after night. Shane and band are so tight playing full on high tempo some of the best stuff written that decade and since.

People who believe that The Pogues were some drunken boys with a somewhat funny Christmassong definitely have absolutely no idea of music at all!

This reminds me of being 8 years old, having been listening to my older brothers Pogues albums, singles, b-sides and of course, the bootlegs from the Barras and wishing i could be there. After every show they played he'd tell me of the night. I, being too young for an over 18's venue could only dream of being there. I eventually got to see them in 1988 at the SEC when i was 11. I've seen Shane over 25 times, easy, and met him and Cait. . .and the Popes. Thanks for this Andreas.

This is an incredible recording of an unforgettable gig. The Pogues were at the height of their powers, and tragically Jock Stein had died the night before. Cue manic performances by the band and the crowd . I was there, and I should know

Totally agree I am lucky enough to be friends with the pogues I worked at Barrowlands back then and got the chance to meet many bands bad and amazing. I'd meet Shane and Philip in a wee auld man's pub the heilan Jessie not far from the Barrowlands before they'd play.we"d have a sing song and a glass or 2 with the old boys.Them not knowing who the pogues were would always insist on buying us a drink back as they'd say "come on noo son you canny afford ow that drink " I'm confident you'll remember the night after Mr.stein died when they sung a man you won't meet every day instead of singing my name is joke Stewart Cait replaced the name with joke stein and the roof was raised.much love xxx🧷🔒🧷

This is absolutely brilliant, many thanks, they were right at their peak, and Shanes voice on this is just sublime..I went to see them numerous times from '84 onwards, and as mentioned, from the moment the first chord was struck, it was beautiful chaos for the next couple of hours....timeless :) Anyone else remember the merchandise? Amongst many other things, you could buy tea towels, and pairs of red Y-Fronts with The Pogues emblazoned on the rear :)

I’ll never get to see the Pogues. They must have been spectacular. One can only imagine what an awesome night this was for all in attendance.

Was at the Leeds uni gig autumn ‘85. Pistol... “McCormack & Richard Tauber... one more drop of poison and you’ll dream of foreign lands...” pause “when you pissed yourself...” absolute fucking lute mayhem commenced for the next 75 mins

What is the crowd cheering around 39 min, while Cait is singing? Sounds like "Tulsi" or something like that. Anyone know?
