+Tatted Beauty It's a shame he didn't finish. The build up to the "You" is brilliant and then it gets pushed aside for the reveal/musical sting of his face. He would've NAILED that last word.

All my life I was so used to Crawford. I adore Gerard as an actor but Michael had him beat. That is until the 4:41 mark. I literally started bawling--SOBBING--my eyes out in the theater. He might not be the best "trained singer" phantom but at this moment he is THE BEST PHANTOM in the history of this musical. The emotion, the TORTURE he puts into these lines is absolutely astonishing. Well done, Gerard.

Everyone talks about how she was manipulating him in this scene etc but I genuinely think when she's around him she finds herself struggling with the hold he has over her; I think he renders her somewhat spellbound & though it's not a healthy thing by any means it's as natural and unyielding to her as her genuine love or Raoul. She's frightened of him, yes, but there's a pull, a raw undertone to her feelings for him that are so entirely different to what she feels with Raoul it's only natural that she's drawn to it.

People forget to factor in that he groomed her from a young age and manipulated her grief for her father into becoming this strong authority figure/obsessed person that wants her all to himself and she not only feels she owes him for her voice, she feels walking away is abandoning her father- and she is intrigued by his mystery and darkness. I don't think she's toying with him at all- she's fighting the part of herself that we all have inside us and try to hide. The love she has for raoul is pure and what she truly wants; but there's always that pull within us towards the darkness (which the phantom represents- 'turn your face away from the garish light of day... help me make the music of the night') Ultimately she chooses the light, of course, as most of us do. But I don't feel she's playing him as many say. It's way more complex than that, and so is her character 😊

Okay guys, Christine gets mesmerized by the Phantoms voice when he sings to her so she's practically hypnotized by his words and voice and that's why she gets all into it until he sings raoul and Christine's song (all I ask of you) which she begins to see what she has done and then pulls his mask to show everyone it is him!

that was the anticlimatic of the big reveal. Plus The story of The phantom of the Opera is a depressing one. It is about someone named Eric who was born deformed. Who only got his mother's fear and loathing of him. And that his mother given him a half of a mask. his first unfeeling scrub of clothing. And Eric being one of the many oddities in a freak show. of a traveling Fair in Paris. Eric only knew of the darkness and the cruelties of this world. And Christine is the only one , who would listen to him. and hear him , And hear his torment hear his tears and hear his pain. And his great sorrow and she practically saved him. When she sang and belted out her song entitled think of me. Christine and her voice became a beacon , a beacon of light and Hope. For him Christine is his candle on the water. And eventually Christine had a child with him. and not to be a spoiler. My apologies for being a spoiler but Meg Christine's best friend. Is the one who killed her , all because Meg believed. she should been the only one for The phantom. Christine Daae the love of Eric's life. Died In his arms. Who leaves behind her child. And her true husband The phantom it is true Love never dies. Christine is only survived by her husband. Eric The phantom and her son Gustav.

Dude no, even if Christine did not have raoul she is not obligated to love him back, he was sort of a child groomer, along with the fact that he literally kidnaps her and almost forces her to marry him, that’s not love, it’s possession

@crystalwang1532 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexcoykendall4236 bold of u to assume Raoul’s “love” wasn’t possession. We at least have solid proof that the phantom would let her go, that whatever he feels for her overpowers his urge to possess her.

I think that one of the reasons Christine rips off the phantoms mask is because he sings "All I ask of you" at the end. That scene is supposedly a special moment between her and Raoul on a Paris rooftop all alone, and the only reason he would know the exact things they said to each other would be that he was there listening as well. (I know it's a song so the words have to be the same, but wouldn't you find it chilling if he sings that to you in your most vulnerable moment, hoping to garner some reaction of love/sympathy/pity towards him) I think that Christine realizes this and becomes even more scared of and angry at the Phantom, and that kind of helps cement her decision on exposing him to the audience.

Am I the only one who hates what Love Never Dies did to the characters? First off all, Erik was a huge jerk. He treated Madame Giry and Meg, who sacrificed a lot of things to help him, like dirt all because of Christine, who in my opinion didn't truly love him. Then they made Raoul to be this mean person who didn't really care about Christine just to make the Phantom look better. It makes me kind of upset for the original author, because it's like they tore his work apart.

Everyone is talking about how Christine should've picked the phantom but I think she was right in choosing Raoul. The phantom was in love with the image of her that he created in his mind, he didn't really know her at all, he just knew that her father had passed away and that she was a talented singer otherwise he didn't really know her, where as Raoul and Christine grew up together and were even childhood sweethearts. The phantom is really cruel to Christine throughout a large portion of the movie, basically throwing a temper tantrum. So when she takes off his mask she getting her revenge and making him pay the consequences for being mean. Also if we're being realistic there was no way Christine was going to spend eternity with him in his "lair". She didn't belong with him.

Josh Whalen the mask during that scene was a black mask that only covered the top half of his face (eyes, nose, portion of his cheeks) The cover shows him wearing his white halved mask that only covers areas where his deformity is present. It is indeed on the wrong side.

+Wazowski's Apprentice In the book his entire face is disfigured and jaundiced as if all the skin on his face has been dead for a long time. The mask in the play initially covered the whole face to reflect this, but it was changed to a half mask to impair the actor less, and so the disfigurement had to be changed as well.

I wouldn't of picked either of them. Raoul just forced himself back into her life, took over, controlled the situation, didn't listen to her. Phantom was mentally off, killed, obsessed. Though he would of listened to Christine more than Raoul did. Her being married to Raoul, there was a high possibility she wouldn't be able to be a opera singer anymore. Just how it went in that time frame. But in the end- both were poor choices.

alanna condit plus, in Love Never Dies (if you count it as a continuation) Raoul is an abusive little fuck, from what I’ve heard (haven’t seen it yet). So.... yeah. That didn’t end well for Christine.

You know really if you think about it the phantom took her down to the dungeon in this song because of Raoul. Like Raoul was the one who forced her on stage to sing and be a trap for the phantom even though she didn't want to and then during the song gets upset because their singing together and the phantoms like holding her. And then what does Raoul do, straight after the song blames the phantom for everything. LOL i hate Raoul. GO PHANTOM!!!
@LavenderEve0805
@LavenderEve0805 7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! Infact I laughed seeing the look on Raoul's face when the Phantom held her. I think Christine should've gone with him, Raoul's WAY to protective over her and doesn't really listen to Christine. At the beginning he still sends the carriage for dinner when she said no, and he made her do the play even when she said she was scared. Most people who ship her with Raoul only do so because of his outburst at the end, but he had been through SO much and he just lost it there because he could see that Raoul wasn't going to treat her right. Christine just couldn't see that.He hadn't had much experience with compassion and understanding in his life so expecting him to deal with everything reasonably is unfair. Besides, Christine could've changed him had Raoul not gotten her scared of him.

I ultimately fail to understand how really really wanting to go out to dinner is worse than murder. Besides, Christine didn't want to eat with him? Well she clearly didn't want to be dragged down to the layer either so..
@LadySash
@LadySash 7 жыл бұрын
Exactly my point. I'm so happy someone thinks the same! XD! As we see in Love Never Dies.. Raoul doesn't treat her right. He only thinks of himself. I think it was just a challenge to get her that made her seem important to him. At the start of the movie, Christine recognizes him as soon as she sees him but he only noticed her when she sang Think of me. Even then it was only when she got applause that he actually remembered her. Like he even gave her stolen flowers (in movie) Hahahaha! Anyway, not putting any Raoul lovers out there down, just stating my opinion that the phantom would have made her happier.... Plus when her dad died Raoul just left her. The phantom was there for her when that happened.
@kerstinrathbone9057

Yes, the phantom was there for her, but Raoul might have not been able to visit her at the opera house. He may not have even known where she was sent. This was set longer ago that they knew each other. He probably wasn't expecting to see her among the dancers, so his eyes glossed over her. She saw him because everyone was being introduced to him. Christine was just another face in the crowd at that point. If he wasn't expecting to see her on stage (he knew about Carlotta having the lead role) it may have taken him a moment to realize that was her. People do change as they grow up. The phantom was just in love with the idea of her. He had never been loved and probably didn't quite understand his obsession wasn't actual love for her. He just wanted her. Doesn't mean Raoul was the best choice for her either, but he was certainly better than living underground, under a burnt building, never having visitors or going outside, and becoming yet another collectable of the phantom's.
