Also, another reason why the whole beating up Ryuju made me feel sour - he has a history of being beat up by his father. The Phantom Thieves would know of it, at the very least Ann would cus I hella remember the talk happening when she and Yusuke were on the team. The whole scene just felt tasteless

Hashino is a very good writer..... just not when it comes to humor. Goro Akechi is a self righteous, murderous lunatic that the game desperately tries to make us sympathize with but in reality is an angry, bloodthirsty little boy that will kill whomever gets in this way to achieve his goal. It almost makes me wish that Zenkichi was with the Phantom Thieves at this point to point out that his backstory does not excuse his conduct and that while you can empathize with him, his rampage is inexcusable. He by this point is a rabid dog that needed to be put down. And the thieves are dumb for thinking that Shido made Akechi this way since Akechi was the one who offered his skills to Shido and helped him come up with his scheme. At least Royal didn't try to double down on the sympathy in the 3rd semester and settled on him being a pragmatic, unapologetic anti hero. But speaking of Shido, now that I've seen Gundam Unicorn I can't hear Shido and not think of Full Frontal, especially since in both English and Japanese Shido is played by the voice actors for Char Aznabel.

Persona 5 is a weird game for me in the sense while I can make a list of noticeable problems, it my favorite megmai tensei game. Like Everytime I play I have a blast. Sure other megmai tensei games will do things better then persona 5, but persona 5 just hits all the right beats.

I never played a jrpg before playing persona 5 bc turn based combat wasn't that atractive to me But then Joker showed up in smash and he became my main, later that year (2019) I decided to buy P5 with not so much faith in liking it and thank god i was so wrong, it is one of my favorite games and it gave me so many good memories This game made me like jrpgs (and also other genres) so it really had a huge impact on me, I have played SMTV and P3 and Atlus became my favorite Developer, I'm playing a lot of things rn but I'm making room to play P4, SMT3 and meny others

The empathy the thieves gave akechi did always come off really weird to me, I think the game should have highlighted that he as a concept was something the phantom thieves regret being able to save or fix, not that they actually care about him as a person. more what he represents. i like akechi a lot especially in insaneo mode but the development between him and the main team just seemed too rushed. in 3rd sem he's really well executed as an antihero that has to work alongside people he dislikes and considers inferior for a common goal, but not well executed as someone they grow a friendly bond with. to me he's always a hater

oh my, you should absolutley talk about strikers, Q2, and tacticas stories as i think there is absolute merit in anilysing thier messages and meanings. i love all 3 but i feel as though they arent being talked about anyliticaly enough on the grander scale outside of zenkichi a nd potentaly toshiro in the future (especaly Q and Q2 as i feel reis acceptance of her fate, and hikari learning to be herself whilst standing up for herself is really compelling to me and i wish they were talked about more anyliticaly).

meh to each of their own, I love akechi psycho true self, thats who he actually is, yes the game is "trying to make you feel bad about him" but is all about the execution and to me I think they did very well with him and is nothing grandiose or any bullcrap. Here is what I see: Akechi has always ALWAYS been a terrible person, using everyone to fullfill his own goals, he mades up a fake ass persona that ok fair we don't see coming miles away since well Persona 4 did it with Naoto, so I let my guard down but the moment we see him fill Haru's dad thats where all the pretentious dropped, Akechi is full of shit and everyone who has played the game has more or less the same sentiment, at least those who I have spoken too, he is just pathethic, but his POWER is the real deal, he is the opposite of Joker and I argue is even stronger, but the Phatom thieves are bunch of morons, is just happens that Akechi thought that since he failed maybe They can take down Shido. That's literally it and Akechi die not accomplishing anything and also not getting any punishment, but he also goes MIA for the rest of the public and everyone believes he just ran away, Plus his Psychotic act with the VA and the Yelling was Excellent, he is the piece of shit he was meant to be but nothing more. Oh and He is a Berserk Reference, extra points for that. Mind You I don't get this "Feeling bad" for Akechi thing, people pull off all the time is pretty clear that we shouldn't and the game trying to is just a pathethic attempt of a loser trying to justify himself, I mean back in my day this was pretty common and people was able to see through the lies, but I guess now we have to Spell everything to everyone. Told you Shido is by far the best antagonist, he is believable and we have a big issue in LATAM with politicians like him. Extra Point for the Gundam Attire. Sadly, I have to agree with you Shido Palace is not the best..is on my top 3. I love Persona 5. Royal not so much.

Akechi is a victim. And he is sympathetic. But at the same time, he's the perpetrator. Yes, shido did abuse him. You can feel sorry for him, but not excuse his actions. Or you won't feel sorry for him, which is also fine

With kamoshida it makes sense as that was purely a personal thing for the original 4 phantom thief because when it all started it was not about some big plot to save the world it was 3 kids and a talking cat trying to change the heart of a cruel man the hurt all of them

Akechi being a raving lunatic was a bummer but Robbie Diamond absolutely loving to ham up each line is hard not to just love. He loses any and all sympathy but it’s a lot like how the guy playing the Emperor in the prequels loved the hell out of his job and was the only one in the end to turn in a non-wooden, memorable performance. (Only P5 is actually good besides Akechi.)

I know P5 having Ren turn himself in on Christmas Day vs Akechi turning himself in instead of Joker is controversial, but I like how P5 Royal allows Ren to spend Christmas Day with his friends (That is if you completed the requirements for P5 Royals 3rd Semester content).

Yes. Childish overused trope is indeed childish and overused. That's the point, this same dumb joke that made people laugh when they were younger isn't ever going to stop. Just like how we won't ever stop getting dumb horny teens in horror movies or the invincible paragon type of Superhero. That's the reason a trope is a trope. Because it is used a lot whether we like them or not unfortunately. And complaining isn't really gonna do much, if anything it's just probably going to make them eventually double down even harder, because people keep complaining about it as most companies tend to do unfortunately.
