Yes it's clear who the 1.4 billion Chinese people supported back then during the civil war, or now, with ROC remnants still hiding in the island, their only chance being that they think the USA is dumb or desperate enough for USA to get into a shooting war with China over Taiwan Island(ROC administers many islands, some even 1km or less from the coast of Chinese mainland, like kinmen and matsu islands iirc). If they, the US support democracy and Chinese people self determination, along with upholding UN and other relevant international charters and laws itself, usa and other countries should not get involved in a Chinese civil war, definitely should not be funding and supporting the side that has like less than 1% support of the Chinese people l. Taiwan's total population of 28 million is like 2% of Chinese population. How many of that 2% is willing to fight, die, have Taiwan completely destroyed like Ukraine, so that they can see ite not worth it? How many in Taiwan would rather live in Ukraine compared with hong Kong? Not a difficult choice unless you're very very far gone in the head already lol. They are even returning to hk after running away to uk, USA etc and couldn't handle it.

The US imperialists, having been successful with their imperialistic tactics of divide & conquer or rule around the world for centuries, underestimated the urge of the Chinese unify identity as well as their wisdom as a civilization.

Great to hear these perspectives! I hope more under-informed people of good will in the West will come to realize that they can best help the people of Taiwan (and themselves) by encouraging peaceful and mutually advantageous cooperation with the People's Republic of China.

That isn't what the USA/NATO) want or is trying to achieve! There are monsters amongst us-peace lovers that want to destroy China and Russia and maintain their authoritarian hegemonic rule of the world.

Liu Xin of CGTN, you can widen this debate if you have a chance to speak to people in South East Asia who have deep roots in China, in particular the Fujian and Guangdong provinces. Many too in SEA have a connection with Taiwan. There is a history that was intertwined at a point in time. The question of Taiwan is equally important to Chinese descendants in Nanyang.

Tsai may have some good intentions for the people of Taiwan. However, her view is biased toward her generation. She doesn't understand the needs of the current generation and she certainly is not anticipating the future generation.

one thing the whole west misunderstood is that PRC doesn't want to 'rule' over the people in taiwan with iron fist.... they want to work together and prosper as a whole.... if there's no forced reunification, the rebuilding process will be much faster and Taiwan will become major region in china for technology after Shenzhen

The interview with Wang Ping-Chung could have been conducted entirely in English - his spoken English was easily good enough. I would assume that the first thirteen minutes or so of the video doubled up as a news piece for the Chinese audience, broadcast eslewhere on CCTV.

What? Taiwan was ceded to Japan for 50 years, not 120 years
@wbz Жыл бұрын
I'm Wang Ping Chung. I mean Taiwan was ceded to Japan for 50 years, and then had been ruled by a different regeme from the mainland since 1949. Thus, Taiwan and Chinese mainland have not been unified for more than 120 years indeed, only except 1945-1949.

Why trouble reunifying only to give citizens economic freedom eventually? Just give Taiwan its freedom now. It has proven itself capable of being independent anyway
