Andy's work on this track is just phenomenal. How cool is it to play such an original, busy part in the verses and then come up with such a crazy, minimalistic solo/outro? There aren't that many guitarists who can shred but choose not to. Hats off Mr Summers

My absolute favorite band from the “New Wave” genre. I discovered them late. The 1st song I heard was Syncronicity II. I bought the Syncronicity album. Blew right through that, and bought all of their albums in reverse order. I know the words to almost every one of their songs.

man ... you guys made this song live again in my mind and spirit ... haven't heard this in so long, and probably haven't done a proper deep dive since i was 15 or 16. on a certain level The Police were "my brother's band" -- he had the cassettes. we both loved The Police, but he had the collection, which we shared. (he had the Joy Division stuff, too, Dan, and also The Cure.) meanwhile i had the Peter Gabriel and Genesis and Paul Simon and R.E.M. .... it's weird how music moves through a family sometimes. we had an equal love for Queen and for Thomas Dolby and we both collected those. hey, thanks for doing these videos. it's cool to hear musicians break down what they love about different tracks. and this album in particular, it hits a sweet spot for me of both nostalgia but also re-learning the album as i haven't played it in so long. i mean, lol, those cassettes are long gone and this isn't a band i ever re-purchased in CD or mp3 formats. so it's just really cool to "hang out" virtually, even displaced in time by a few weeks, and kind of listen to it "with" you. thanks again.

This track is awesome; a shining example of Sting's work with the "fretless" bass. Without the raised fretboard, his notes received hints of the micro tones up and down of it; versus pinning the note on a raised fret. He also sets notes in the off beat to break a reggae groove into the new wave sound they have going. Thank you guys, again, not a wildly reacted to track.

The only thing I would add is, and not to take anything at all away from Sting and Stuart Copeland's brilliance and talent, but that first guitar solo is possibly one of the strangest and most awesomely "yeah, this is what I'm choosing here" solos ever put to vinyl, so yay Andy Summers. There is a documentary film called "Sting - Bring On The Night - 1985" That documents the band first meeting, Sting doing arrangements, birth of one of his kids with Russians playing in the background, and his first solo concert in Paris. If you haven't seen it already, it is worth it. There are a few streams of it to be found here on KZbin for free. There is a drum solo by Omar Hakim that is probably one of my all time favorite drum solos at one point. Some of Carter Beauford's solos with the Dave Matthews Band are probably some of the few that top it.

Post-apocalyptic blues: Sting writes the song from the perspective of the last man alive after a nuclear fallout where the sky is permanently bright from all the radiation so he longs for the night sky. He follows it up on the next album with the song, "When the World is Running Down You Make the Best of What's Still Around" - it shares the same chord progression but with an entirely different groove.
