Copeland's cymbal work alone is enough to get me on board. Astounding!

This track IN SPECIFIC I believe is Stewart Copeland’s greatest drumming of his career… His techniques still astound me

I 100% agree with this comment... feel the exact same way about One World and Stewart's performance.

Stewart's masterpiece off of this album. Love the reggae snare drop-outs and those tasty octoban fills.

To me, what makes this track special is Stewart’s drumming and the production. Producer Hugh Padgham puts miscellaneous echoes on different instruments throughout the piece. It’s fun to anticipate where and when the next one will appear. An example is at 3:45. The guitar gets the echo then passes it to the drums then back to guitar and finally to the horns and if you wait a few seconds after that you’ll hear it in the vocals.

@@-davidolivaresMy dad meets with an oncology team today to learn the extent of his cancer and his treatment options. He’s been placed in palliative care. The palliative team supports patients in their decision to either pursue treatment or to let a disease run its course. The risk of treatment, in my dad’s case, could be greater than the benefit.

Yes, Stewart's drumming definitely is what keeps this song interesting, as it's pretty repetitive otherwise. And as always, I feel a sense of relief now that we're through the five middle sax songs of this album. Three very good songs left; One from each band member 😊

It's amazing how many Police songs were simply a great groove for a few minutes. Copeland is the guy that makes these run.

The middle of the album is too sax-heavy lmao. There are three songs that were cut: I Burn For You, Shambelle, and Once Upon a Daydream. I wish they were put on the initial release cause they're so good.

Most reggae is repetitive. But brilliant.

This is pretty close to how The Orb made Trip-Hop sound on UFOrb both with bass, drums and echoes running around, which again was inspired by dub-reggae from Jamaica. I am pretty sure The Police must have visited Jamaica at this time - Fun.

Another groove-based song aimed at getting a crowd moving. It's infectious in the best way. The ska/reggae vibe was on-target for the UK market but a bit ahead of its time for American audiences. I credit the Police for introducing many American kids to this kind of sound.

Probably my favorite Police song. The kind of song that if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island, this is one of the songs you'd want to have with you. All the meanwhile hoping for that Message in a Bottle.

Repetitive song but the album gets way more interesting with Andy Summers ‘Omegaman’. It was supposed to be the first single off the album but Sting Disallowed it. Secret Journey is a cool track too and Darkness which you already covered.

"Third World" is a Cold War term. It referred to countries who were not affiliated with either the US and Great Britain (First World) or the Soviet Union (Second World). I think it became derogatory later.

Yes, “One World (Not Three)” is a piece made for the stage, and The Police did not hesitate to play it in concert multiple times. That said, it is still one of the five filler tracks in the middle of the album with its repetitive structure. Taken on its own, this song (like the previous four) isn't bad in itself, but it's the juxtaposition between all these songs that causes an effect of monotony throughout Ghost in the Machine. What's really wrong with this album is the way the tracklist was laid out. Three strong opening pieces and three strong closing pieces, then five weaker and repetitive pieces in the middle. I think that's the real problem with Ghost in the Machine, which still remains an excellent album despite all that.

@@mightyV444 Yes, despite its flaws, I can't help but love this album. Anyway, I find that none of The Police's five albums are perfect, they all have their share of filler tracks but there are enough strong ones to raise the bar so that's okay with me !
