The masterful Stewart Copeland behind the kit. 🥁 You can hear jazz, rock and yes, reggae styles in his syncopated, snare driven rhythms and at times, he’s using only the high hat and base drum to keep that itchy groove and beat. He was also heavily influenced by Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which you can also hear in his loose style of playing. Amazing drummer that gave The Police their awesome, unique sound.

One of the things I really appreciate about your channel is that you don’t just run through the major hits of the various artists (to mine clicks and stats for the algorithms) but you also do deep dives into the music that other channels completely miss. For lyricist Sting, this is an optimistic song, lol. For his pessimistic side regarding the state of the world, try "Driven to Tears." "Protest is futile...too many cameras and not enough food, this is what we've seen...driven to tears..." Brutal. But, my God: Brilliant!

Stewart Copeland is the drummer that all other professional drummers idolize. He's American (with Scottish mom) but his dad was a big guy in the CIA & they moved to Egypt when he was a baby, then later to Beirut. As a teen they moved to London, which is where he met the other Police members, who are British. Not surprising he was influenced by some Middle Eastern music & drum styles. He's also fluent in Arabic.

Ghost In The Machine is my favourite Police album. It has the playfulness of their earlier work but also some very serious and deep songs. Invisible Sun is so powerful. Darkness is relaxing musically but a little more jarring lyrically. I don’t know a bad Police song, but I know plenty of great ones.

One of the great things about this track is it makes crystal clear how great they were live: can’t you just hear this with a great long jam?☺️ It even hints at Sting moving in a jazz direction. Longtime fans of the Police and punk and reggae, my wife and I had been off continent for six weeks when this album was released. When we returned and first heard this song on the radio we practically crashed the car!😆 WHO TF IS THIS?! We immediately drove to the nearest record store. “We’re all in the same big boat, one world is enough for all of us.” (Fk this third world shite)✊🏽 Btw: punk was deeply respectful of reggae, none more than the Brits - check out the great band “British Beat” as an example. The best early punk/new wave radio station/s in NYC would mix songs throughout the night: punk and reggae and classic 1950s R&R.

Hey La & Che, this is something a bit different. If you enjoy a good storytelling song, then you should enjoy listening to some of the late great Leonard Cohen's tunes. He has a very unique set of vocals as well as an unusual style of Storytelling. So, if interested try giving him a listen, "Leonard Cohen - Everybody Knows (Audio)" (by the channel: LeonardCohen) --This song by Leonard Cohen was released on his album called "I'm Your Man" and was released in 1988. It has been described by critics as both bitterly pessimistic and yet funny, and a bleak prophecy about the end of the world as we know it. (Just another banger with lots to ponder over) Hehe And as always, I enjoy hanging out and rocking with you both. Have a blessed day and Thanks for sharing. peace out~
