No auto tune, no Katy Perry makeup/costumes, no fakeness of any kind. Three guys making musical magic. Amazing.

God I love ❤ them sooo much! This is the seedy, back alley, jazzy, dirty version. They funked out. Andy's work is beautiful. What a cosmic union

Have always said that Sting's best work was with the Police. Not for his incredible songwriting and clearly immortal musical ability...but the fact he had two musicians who were just as talented as him with their chosen instrument. Lightning in a bottle. That's why the Police were the biggest band in the world for years. 3 incredible musicians with a true genius fronting the trio.

This is good but the piano in the studio one is just as brilliant. One of zenyattas most underrated singles.

Copeland is the man! Of course Sting was the creative force behind the Police, but so much of its sound and vibe was developed so organically by Copeland, and he often doesn't get the credit for that.

+OrchestrationOnline The Police was HIS band. He used to say something like, "Sting is just my bass player." I love both bodies of work, The Police and Sting's solo stuff, except for the stuff he's been doing lately. He needs to go ahead and release a regular Sting album instead of reinterpreting some other guy's music on the Lute, or writing musicals about ships.

You could even say that the last two albums were an attempt by Sting to wrest control of the band away from Copeland. Once the centre of the musical sound is taken away from the drums, they just sound like another superstar art-rock band. But I miss the chamber-music aesthetic.
@drewper73
@drewper73 8 жыл бұрын
OrchestrationOnline Yes, you could most definitely say that. I think it was sometime during the recording of "Ghost In The Machine" where Hugh Padgham called someone, possibly Miles Copeland, and said, "I can't get anything done. These guys are mad!" Can you explain what you mean by "the chamber-music aesthetic"?

They've got a really intimate sound, in which every part is interdependent. It's like listening to a piano trio or a string quartet. At least up to their third album.

Copeland showed Sting Reggae from what I've heard. And also Punk. So the Jazz parts and the songwriting came from Sting, but the Reggae beats and Punk speed and attitude was Stewart. I think Sting gets maybe too much credit, but they all deserve credit. The sign of a great band is that each component is equally important. They were nothing when they had Henry P. instead of Andy. They would have been nothing without Sting's songwriting. And they wouldn't have been unique without Stewart.

This is one of those pretty great songs which ironically weren't singles even when it's so sophisticated and carefully tuned

@Tony Wiltshire - Mine, too! 😀 I'd asked my Mum to get me the 'De Do Do Do...' single, when she went out shopping one afternoon in 1980 - and she bought me the whole album instead because they didn't have the single. *And* because she loved me! 😇 PS: I love RUSH, too! I cried when I heard of Neil's passing.

I totally love the feel of this -- The regular track was so overpowered by the bass line -- this version plays, like, well, a guy chasing shadows in the rain -- cool little interludes leading nowhere in particular -- instead of a pounding bass line. But, heh, that's why you go see stuff live.

I think the version from Dream of The Blues Turtle was a blues, which the original probably was intended to be but I love how it was an almost unresolved blues on Zenyatta Mondatta.

I think this is a the better version of that song - the album recording sounds unfinished, like they ran out of time and didn't complete the guitar tracks.

@Richard Marston - I agree! Andy was kinda just noodling and creating weird sounds on the studio version, while here he's creating really nice soundscapes. The off-beat Reggae bits also are much louder here. I do love the 'Zenyatta...' version but prefer this one. Sting's remake on his first solo album was quite good, too! 🙂

Say this live on TV at the time, great concert and this version of SITR is better than the album version, in that it actually has a guitar solo whereas the LP version seems unfinished.

In this text, nation (people) appears along with nation (state). The nation (people) is positioned as an "imaginary community". What is the "imaginary community"? That is what we will learn from now on. ============================================== The Warring States period of China, which was produced by the Hundred Schools of Thought, is almost the same as the time when the city nation (state) was in conflict in Greece, and there are considerable similarities. With the formation of such an empire in China, the possibilities opened during the Warring States period were closed. In other words, the Asian despotism nation(state) has survived since then. The Asian despotism nation (state) is not just an extension of the clan society. In order for it to be established, the process of breaking the tradition since the clan society was indispensable, whether in Sumer or China. Of course, once a centralized system is established, then the tyranny uses its traditions since the clan society. That is why the peasant community composed of tyranny seems to have survived from the clan society. Marx called the Asian community "general enslavement." It is neither slavery nor serfdom. Confirmation is part of an autonomous community. But the entire community is owned by the king. The king does not need to intervene in the community. People are detained by being part of a community. Therefore, through the autonomy of the community, the nation (state) can rule the community. Therefore, the nation (state) and the agricultural community are completely different, but they do not exist separately. An agricultural community is an "imaginary community" framed by a tyrannical nation (state). It cannot be, like the modern nation (people), without a prioritized framework of centralized nation (state). The Asian despotism (state) exists, so to speak, as a junction of despotism (state) = agricultural community. ============================================== What should be noted in this text is the existence of "autonomy". I think that gaining autonomy is synonymous with gaining some sort of "freedom (not perfect)". By gaining this autonomy, the community can maintain its uniqueness and set norms within the community. However, ensuring the autonomy of the community means that the community is "subordinate to something." Otherwise, the community itself would be a "nation (state)". By giving the community autonomy, the nation (state) can control the community. The fundamental mechanism by which nation (state) can control community is due to "taxes". Taxes allow nations(states) to protect communities(people). This relationship will last for a long time, as it also benefits the community (people). In other words, the nation (state) gives the community the "freedom" of autonomy, while the nation (state) controls the community. Nation (people) = community of imagination, well, what does this "imagination" mean? I don't think the imagination has any compulsory meaning. In other words, it will be a "voluntary" derivation. And it feels like there is effectiveness (collaboration). We will learn more about this collaborative nature later. What should be recognized here is that there is a "nation (state)" as a prerequisite for the "imaginary community (nation (people))". Will we (nation (people)) be able to connect beyond the nation (state) in the future? This question was a little mean. As I mentioned several times, "free trade" connects us (nation(people)) to each other. If we look at the products in the room, I think most of them are made in foreign countries. In other words, we are already connected to each other. However, these products are still lacking in power. With M-C-M(Money-Commodity-Money')', the disparity can be reduced and we will be able to enjoy the peace moment. However, the system has not been built yet. I want to learn this through the textbook as well. Well, please enjoy your weekends in your way, Good night and sweet dream to you ∂ . ∂ 🌸
