I was born in 69. MTV started when I was junior high. I remember watching these videos before and after school. I used to listen to the Police, Rush, Pink Floyd, AC DC, Metallica, Guns n Roses, The Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Madonna, etc etc etc. I could go on and on. Plus that was when Walkman's were invented... the pre-IPod era. Music today does not even compare. Also, we used to go to the arcade to play video games. We'd all get together and have tournaments away from our parents. Then, we used to play football, baseball, basketball, frisbee, hacky sack, bikes, skateboards, etc outside with all the kids in the neighborhoods. It was truly the best time to have grown up as a child. I feel sorry for these young kids... they are so deprived... they have no idea!

That sound/grove/blend of genres that The Police mastered is so ubiquitous to them, they have a profoundly unmistakable sound. Sting may be the greatest bass player ever. Andy Summers guitar work is sublime & grotesquely under appreciated Steward Copeland's cerebral/introspective approach to all aspects of drumming has put him in a league few could hope to join. If you're old enough to have lived it, I'm envious. To those like me who found them long after their hay day, congratulations on opening yourself up to some amazing music.
