From a purely statistical perspective: Hitler was a nationalist (as far as all evidence points to), so giving a nationalist response makes you closer to Hitler is just a simple logical deduction. But that alone is just a meaningless statement. I drink water and breathe air like Josef Stalin, but does that make me Stalin? Hopefully I conveyed my meaning alright here, but in case I didn't - TL;DR is as follows: Similarities and shared characteristics do not mean equivalency.

For example, the question "A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system." I think the intention is to find out whether the questioned person supports one-party states, but that can't be concluded from this question. @pascalausensi95923 жыл бұрын
There are some valid reasons for someone to want to remove or at least reform the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I personally find it stupid how all human rights have equal weight and are always inalienable. When clearly some rights are more important than others (Articles 3 or Article 4 vs Article 24 for example) and sometimes there exist extenuating circumstances that make violating some of them a necessity. Quarantines, for example, are in clear violation of Article 13. which states that _"Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state"_ , that should require no explanation. And also a violation of Article 23. _"1. Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment."_ , as the quarantine prevents many people from working. And Article 20. _"1. Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association."_ , violated by those countries that also instituted a ban on public gatherings. Closing down schools, a usual aspect of most quarantines, is arguably also a violation of Article 26 _"1. Everyone has the right to education(...)"_ , because you're effectively denying their education to those without the means to reliably access the internet and/or lacking a good study environment in their homes, etc. you get the point. Now there exist valid arguments against quarantines, and one could even make a reasonable case in favour of the idea that protecting our basic rights is in aggregate more important than minimizing the number of COVID deaths, but I'd hope we could all agree that striking the very idea of quarantines as illegal and violating human rights is irrationally imbecilic and an unnecessary constraint on what options we have to deal with the current crisis. Especially when it's also possible to argue that a country with a high number of COVID cases not instituting a quarantine would be violating Article 3 _"Everyone has a right to life ..."_ . Meaning that under such circumstances a country violates Human Rights no matter what they do.

The thing is that these TLDR videos leave out sooooooo much when talking about political stuff that makes their videos biased many times. Like this one. The viewers of this channel are mainly young adults. 18-35 years old. And for them receiving this data is perfectly normal. Considering that these videos want to be neutral so the people with extreme political views are not likely to follow the channel. Plus they entirely miss out on how the difference between people who think what they are and what they actually think is huuuuge. Like in my country where the people claiming themselves politically right tends to show politically leftist opinions just they don't know it. And here is another issue: People are stupid. Which is more probable? The test based on the original political ideas is wrong or people don't really know the actual political ideas just claim to be one for some reason meanwhile showing entirely different opinion? Yeah... In the end we will see that the test may not be 100% correct but most of the incorrect results come from: biased answers on the person side, being stupid, not knowing political ideas and agendas and government controlled opinions and media. I ended up in the libertarian left section, far to the left of Bernie Sanders. I've done similar tests before and they all categorized me as a Democratic Socialist, which did not surprise me at all where economics are concerned, though my sociocultural values are more conservative than the Democratic Socialist label would suggest. What I most missed in this test is the option of "neither agree nor disagree," as I can imagine many people are not comfortable with being forced to take a partisan stance on all questions, especially if they don't have all the details yet.

I took this test a few months ago (as well as a related one), and I definitely saw the problem with the test. Some of the statements in the test are for sure questionable and this video raises some good points. I believe a major point has been left out though. The political compass test looks at global politics whereas western European politics (including the UK) tend to be very left-winged in general, even for political parties that identify themselves as right-winged. I think it's matter of scale. For instance, parties in the USA are probably way more positioned to the right than the Tories from the UK. To me, it explains why so many people end up on the bottom-left part of the political compass. The results would probably be different if the TLDR audience was from a different part of the world.

They are biased towards a centre left liberal position, the compass still is somewhat accurate for them, even if you adjust for the compass' failings. The reason why you think that they are unbiased is that they do a reasonable job at presenting both sides of the argument and tend to use neutral language over partisan rhetoric, nor do they tend to express their own opinions. That is not the same thing as being unbiased, as even with the best will in the world, they cannot restrain their bias all of the time, but it is the best that we can expect from a human.

There was an interesting survey that asked people who self-identified as liberal to answer a poll as if they were conservative, and asked conservatives to do the same as if they were liberal. What the survey found was that liberals tended to be much worse at understanding how a conservative would answer a poll, while conservatives were actually quite good at answering a poll as if they were a liberal. The questions in this poll make me think of that survey. The idea that the poll creators think a conservative would answer that business is more important than people, or that any significant percentage of western respondants would respond that they think their race is superior sound like the sort of answers a somewhat naive university liberal thinks conservatives would respond favorably to.
@SteinGauslaaStrindhaug3 жыл бұрын
> What the survey found was that liberals tended to be much worse at understanding how a conservative would answer a poll, while conservatives were actually quite good at answering a poll as if they were a liberal. That could mean a lot of things: - It _could_ mean that conservatives are more empathetic and better at imagining how others think (what a conservative probably would think is the reason) - or it could also mean that the "liberal" stance in this case is a self consistent set of policies logically following from a set of base values; while the "conservative" stance is a confused mess of logically inconsistent policies that doesn't logically follow from a consistent set of base values making it impossible to mentally model (what a liberal probably would think is the reason). - or it could also just be an imbalance of media coverage, that conservatives is simply better informed about the leftist oppinion than the other way around - or it could be random chance in the selection of participants in this survey. This survey alone cannot tell what is the true reason.

For example, one question asks you for your Nation score, in my case I got 95.6 % but specifically, I got 95.6% WORLD, which actually means I got 4.4% Nation. The survey does not provide both numbers. As such, two respondents might see your question "Nation score (orange)", look for the number next to the orange question, and give the same number, despite landing on opposite sides of the axis.

first, apologies for the less-than-succinct answer. 'neoliberalism' has a billion definitions, none of which are very useful without taking the time of going into specifics; half the time it's used simply as a slur. neoliberals, as a group you'll find out there (usually on twitter, mind you), are people who are mostly characterised by militant humanist-liberal principles coupled with a hardcore utilitarian approach (there's an obvious tension there, of course). neoliberals worry about all sorts of things & will often advocate all sorts of welfare system policies, thought usually on the basis of pragmatic, utilitarian considerations. (hard) libertarians, in contrast, usually argue not from utility as much as from principle, that principle usually being the classically liberal one of restriction of the state (power). eg. fusing entertainment with news might be bad but regulating it would entail bureaucracy & coercion from the state, which is in principle bad/worse. *tl;dr:* hard libertarians differ from neoliberals in that they are not utilitarians - they argue from principle over utility; in practice, however, they'll often advocate the same things even if the arguments posited will differ greatly in structure & reasoning. eg. neoliberals tend towards positive social liberal advocacy, whereas libertarians only support social liberalism because clamping down on it would be incommensurable with the rights of personal liberty.

Stop defining Socialism as „the government intervenes in the economy“ that‘s simply not true. Government intervention is an authoritarian/libertarian issue. Most socialists today define Socialism/Capitalism as whether a business is owned by the workers or a capitalist.

Thank you! I was about to comment this, I'm so tired of people getting this wrong...

God thanks for clarifying it. So many people get it wrong and I myself didn’t understand it for ages because of how much conflicting information there is. And now I’m a socialist lol.

Is taxation a theft? Should the government (or any other central body with same function and authority) redistribute money to maintain the public infrastructure and social security network in this society with worker owned businesses?

Socialism has nothing to do with workers nor any specific group of people. Socialism is an economic system where the collective (such as workers, guilds, the government etc.) either directly own or control the buildings and tools that make goods and services like farms and factories. This can be achieved through decentralized and direct worker-ownership, or through centralized state-ownership or control of the means of production.

the question about race is dumb, all humans belong to the same race no matter the colour of your skin or place of birth, homo sapiens, and yes, homo sapiens is superior to dogs in brain capacity, and so on. This test is bullcrap tbh and shouldnt be used as a meaningful way of determening you stance on political issues.

Interpreting race in this way gives a little bit away about your views. Enough to put you in a box?, Probably not!. But there are plenty of people who don't see race this was (as defined by biology I mean). There are people who see race as a label of ethnicity (as defined by their own idea of what that means), and don't think any further about it before judging the question with their gut feelings. You are not such a person.

The race question is not necessarily more telling than the art question. Very few people will say that their race is superior. The art question is subtler and more likely to get an honest answer that helps differentiate authoritarianism. Asking if abstract art "shouldn't be considered art" is not the same as asking if you appreciate art. To say that something "shouldn't be considered" is highly authoritarian, while finding something to be unappealing is just taste. I have a strong dislike for anchovies, but I don't feel that they "shouldn't be considered" as tasty food by other people.

Well, the real problem here is they've added in cultural questions and trying to place it onto two axis that aren't cultural. The sappy values test is a much better test in my opinion. When I took that one I was LibRight with a very progressive score on the cultural axis.
