Pretty clear Petruchio is the ruler in this play though he teaches Kate to rule others as well.

I believe that they are putting the play on its head. They are flipping the original play to encapsulate how uncomfortable Petruchio's actions were. I think that this is incredible, and in fact, shows how modern society can also appreciate Elizabethan dramas !
