@Shahi Ghuman You must be a kid who's just started watching cricket recently. Ponting's achievements can never be compared or mentioned of in the same breath as any of the captains ever as his record is phenomenal. 2 World Cups + 2 Champions Trophies + 15 years of World Dominance in both the formats (t20 cricket being Mickey mouse cricket) winning everywhere and practically unbeatable in Australia. It was quite cheeky of you to slip in Asia Cup and the IPL in there to boost up Dhoni's stats. Asia Cup features merely 3 good teams with SL and Pakistan being on an everlasting slump in their performances. IPL and T20 cricket is more entertainment and less cricket. However let me remind you Ponting has won the IPL once as a captain and a coach and trust me he was the brain behind the triumph both the time as Rohit Sharma himself believed that. Ponting pretty much won everything with his team of invincibles. Had t20 been around in his era, I have no doubt whatsoever that Australia would have had pocketed a few T20 World Cups too. Dhoni isn't nearly as good as Punter, let alone better. Dhoni lost 4-0 to both Australia and England. Ponting's Australia never got whitewashed under him in his career. 165 ODi wins and 48 Test wins as test captain and heckloads of batting records to his name leading from the front puts Ricky Ponting head and shoulders above Dhoni. Ricky Thomas Ponting is and will be in a league of his own. Unmatchable. There are two types of captains in cricket - 1. Ricky Ponting 2. Rest.

I have seen a lot of fast bowlers play this game. I have not seen another Shoaib Akhtar. He was a character to watch. Was contemporary of Brett Lee and Shane Bond who were also very fast, yet so different as a character on the pitch. And he was a mean man on the pitch, make no mistake about it. He was like...mate, if you don't give me your wicket when I bowl a yorker, I am going to knock your helmet with a bouncer. He was scary to face for real when he was in rhythm. Brutally fast on his day and he will overrun you like a steam roller when he is in rhythm. He knocked Brian Lara on his helmet, probably the best player of pull shot in the history of cricket, he was that fast. Was a treat to watch him bowl fast, just for the excitement and adrenaline of it...

Ricky Ponting was no doubt master blaster.... I remembered him hitting 124 runs at lahore against Pakistan in 1998. He played wasim and shoaib with great confidence and chased 315 runs. Every one in Pakistan began to said this boy is robot...as he played hook and pull shot on front foot with great control. What asset for his country.

There's a video here in which Langer talk abouts the same incident, how he watched Ponting battling against Shoaib and that he preferred to rather stay at the Moon strikers end.

I a millennial for one admit that, though we have flashy cricket with huge score ,the fact is they are also,"Aided" by rules to score (make runs) runs,to draw more folks or retain viewership . A sad reality . And no one(very few ,if any) with such fire and character as these guys. If not for old match replays and KZbin my generation and most after would believe that the current era are the greats. Seeing and watching these guys have a go at each other and make centuries or scalping wickets left right and centre . Wah. What a time it was for the game. I know money is money. But back then ,for a viewer ,the money aspect was mostly never a aspect one would notice (or be a draw). It was the sheer thrill of the sport. Damn!! What an era.
