It's pretty silly and for history nerd types and the curious there really was no such single thing as 'The Spanish Inquisition' but rather a lot of different variations and somehow clumped together over a 350 year periods of history over different parts of Spain. Very basically, Spain's Catholics were having a problem with what was believed to be too many Jews or Muslims who'd make a 'Said Conversion'. This also intertwined with what we'll call Immigration and get ready because here was the vast majority of 'Inquisitions': - Homework and a pop Quiz. that was your vast majority. Confirmation classes. You couldn't just say you're a Catholic convert but to join and confirm you had to show some knowledge of what you joined. Like getting American citizenship and you get a citizenship test. Buckle up... it gets worse though. Sometimes they'd catch out an impersonator and make them wear a letter "P" or some hat. but n some rare exceptions they believed they did find what they worried about: Frauds. Those who'd faked conversion and in some cases amounting to what we'd think of Spies. they sure did arrest them and they'd hold trials and probably did handcuff them to a rack and grill them on their true missions etc. over some 350 years in a dozen different parts of Spain we can come up with a terrible average; Maybe 10 o4 12 "Spies" a year were executed by Spain. We can average that out to about 1 a month over 3 centuries. That sounds crazy but then again a whole lot of people got executed for a whole lot of reasons through much of our middle-ages so that's a relatively tiny amount of the crimes.

@@evanbelisle8464 I don't disagree with you but it would be normal, today, in 2023 to find out 10 people a year are executed in Russia suspected of being spies. A Dozen Americans were executed in China suspected of being spies. This thing, actually various ongoing different things in different times and places over some 350 years is just standard 'life as usual' and the only remarkable thing is that a narrative developed and created something being called "The Spanish Inquisition' and insane beliefs about "it" and a kind of mythical "Jews poisoned wells" and "Apaches ate live babies" kind of story people can whip out and say like a 'get out of religion card'. that's really the only remarkable thing. I'd still agree with you though. it was very rare anyone was executed from an 'inquisition' believing they found a spy and traitor etc. LOTS of people got executed for stealing a horse or a dozen other things during that 3 century run.
