Saw it with my husband last night and had similar comments. As a Catholic, it's nice to have a depiction of a priest who's faithful, likeable and charming. I think this movie shows the power a world class actor has to elevate an otherwise average film. Russel Crowe made this movie so enjoyable. Nothing felt offensive or preachy. At the end of the day, it was just good old fashioned Hollywood entertainment. The other compliment I would give is to the camera work. There was something about the angles and movement that felt good.

I read one of Fr. Amorth's books. He's very upbeat, positive and sounds like a fun person. Even though he was dealing with absolute horror he had no doubt that God had his back, he was almost completely fearless. These movies exaggerate typical exorcisms but there are usually 1 or 2 that are particularly nasty. The church has gotten very good at preventing exorcisms from getting out of control. They've had 2,000 years to know what to do and what not to do. They are careful to rule out mental illness as well. I mean who wants to waste time doing an exorcism ritual on someone who isn't possessed?

@@keller8821 Exorcism works as well as you believe it will. Have you ever seen the movie The Skeleton Key? At the end in the attic/ritual room, Kate Hudson's character puts herself inside of a protective circle, believing it will keep her safe even though she's always thought voodoo was bs, then the priest and priestess told her what she didn't know was that once she entered the circle, she couldn't leave it. She continually shouted "I don't believe!" As she was told it could only hurt her if she believed it could, yet she falls victim to the ritual because had she truly not believed, she would have just stepped out of the circle and been saved.
@ludwigvanbeethoven8164 Жыл бұрын
@@allisonhunter1063 what do you mean..."believe it will?" Have you done an exorcism before on someone else? No. Because laymen do not have authority over the body of other laymen...only those ordainted with holy orders (priests, bishops, cardinals). @allisonhunter1063 Жыл бұрын
@@ludwigvanbeethoven8164 Actually, I have. It was crude, yes, but it was an emergency and we could not wait for the Catholic Church to ACTUALLY get involved. Also, they may not have been willing to help my friends husband as we were ghost hunting and using a Ouija Board to communicate with unknown spirits in a place where supposedly a serial killer brought his victims ("In order to be old and wise, one must first be young and stupid.") When we were at the location, we noticed J acting strange, out of character, but his wife and I, who did that stuff all the time, just thought maybe J was scared, So we left after some pretty terrifying things happened that we could not account for. Before I thought he was possessed, I was going to drop them off and go home to go to bed myself, but I hugged H and J, while I was wearing a silver cross pendant on my necklace, which sat in the center of my upper chest, H gave me a hug, thanked me for hanging out with them, and J came to hug me too, and he pulled back as if something had bitten him, he had a burn on his chest in the shape of my cross necklace, UNDERNEATH HIS SHIRT, and the shirt was undamaged. After he pulled away from me, I looked at J, and saw a face that was not his. H, my friend and Js wife, saw it too, and she screamed. J became very aggresive, and J is a Catholic, H and I are not. I asked H if she wanted me to essentially force anything off of J if I could, she said yes. so I brought out my emergency kit for things of that nature. We created a salt circle, I brought out Holy objects (things that normally J would have clung to for comfort in those moments, only made him wilder, angrier, and lost more control), We began to pray, I pulled out the Rites of Exorcism and began to read them whilst putting holy water on all 3 of us to keep any invading spirits out of all 3 of us so it couldn't seek shelter in H or me, as some entities will do in the event of an exorcism when they feel threatened. Luckily, I was able to reach a lucid part of J and he responded and we were able to get him to fight from the inside and tell the invading entities that they were not welcome and must leave. I'm not totally sure where you heard that ONLY Catholic Priests are "allowed" to perform exorcisms... but they happen all over the world, just like I had to do on J. Luckily, we had gone out on a Saturday night, and Sunday morning Mass was only a few hours away, had I not been able to help J, we would have driven him straight to the closest Catholic Church, my city has a few big very beautiful Catholic churches and we were in the middle of 2 of the biggest ones. St. Mary's and Notre Dame. The next morning at Mass, J was pulled aside by the Priest personally, who prayed over him and H and told him that perhaps nexttime we should rethink our dangerous nocturnal adventures. He saw something still lingering trying to hang onto J and wait for a moment to slip in, and the Priest removed it using prayer, holy water, and anointed J with Holy Oil. Now, what do I mean by "an exorcism will only work as well as you believe it will"... J is catholic, the type of Exorcism rite I used was the Catholic Rites. Spirits, entities and demons aren't like allergic to one specific type of prayer, It doesn't make a ton of difference to the demon which religious texts you use, its about the belief in those words working which drives out the demons, your beliefs your convictions, the demon won't go if you don't want it to, despite what an exorcist tells the demon to do. The demon is affected by the beliefs of their host, and if the host believes that a specific prayer will work, the believer also fights from within and drives the demon out through force, like an eviction. It wouldn't do your landlord much good to try to evict you with a notice written in a language you can't understand, would it? As long as the person feels the right feelings, the demons will go. I know this sounds like the ravings of a lunatic, but I can assure you with 100% honesty, that this event did happen, we didn't know possession was real this way either until we were there to see it first hand. When you see someone's facial features distort to something inhuman right in front of your eyes, you'll be willing to believe anything that will help you stay safe. And before its asked, none of us have schizophrenia, or any other conditions that make hallucinate.

Before I became Christian I lived alone in an apartment. Was dating an unchristian person, life going no where. A young woman was murdered behind my apt. complex. Not long after I had an experience with night paralysis and woke up to this darkness with eyes watching me I could not move. This was so frightening I slept in the living room with the lights on. Then started sleeping at my partners house and did not want to go to my apartment. The relationship was empty, broken, but still I did not want to go to my apartment. Shortly after I did break up and went out and met this other person who ended up taking me to church, and I converted to Christianity. After that... no darkness forms against me. I am a child of the most high God. Evil can only go where it is directly or indirectly invited.
@urbanlarsson825211 ай бұрын
It's a surprisingly high number of people experience just that, the feeling of being watched and waking up not able to move. It many times are told in relation to alien abduction or visitation. But it is a normal state explained by doctors and shrinks as normal anxiety and insecurity and when waking up in the middle of the night the body have not yet come out of its sleep and you feel unable to move. As soon as you feel safe, as a child you have a stuffed animal and later your parents nearby, but as you get older and don't trust your partner or have none, then anxiety get to you and you feel unsafe and wake up at night. Anything that comforts you will help, sometimes a strong belief in a religion helps, that there are someone out there to protect you, or a partner you can rely on. My problem are the opposite, I dream that I have to achieve something, like jumping real high or kick a football into goal, and I fail a few times and then I really give it my all and then wake up and I have thrown myself out of bed and find myself on the floor with my head under the night table. So the opposite from being paralyzed.

This really has the feel of a mystery behind the horror which I love. And Russel like plays the veteran detective. This is based on a real man where he performed about 10,000 exorcists. Russel got to know the people The exorcist worked with and he said you can tell that these people truly believe they had these experiences whether you believe in it or not. I personally have had demons whisper to me vile things in a different language but I understood what they were getting at during a sleep paralysis episode. After that there’s no doubt in my mind these entities exist and when I prayed to Jesus I haven’t had an episode since. There are countless stories like mine. Look up the asbury revival exorcism and listen to the scream that comes out of the ladies mouth. It’s authentic footage. Hundreds of people were there. Evil absolutely does exist and is not subjective.

well.... about religious people and MATH - i think because it is a part of science, they dont care about numbers... In October 2000, it was reported that Gabriele Amorth had performed over 50,000 exorcisms (which ranged from "a few minutes" to "several hours" in length). In March 2010, he said that the number had increased to 70,000. By May 2013, he said he had performed 160,000 exorcisms in the course of his ministry. Gabriele Amorth was a diocesan exorcist for Rome, over a span of about 25 years. IF we, calculate 160 000 divided with those 25 years that brings us 6400 exorcist-rituals each year. 6400 divided with 365 - so we get how many each day = 17,53 -> 18 each day - to make it more easy... "A few minutes to several hours" --- lets assume 30 minutes so, 18 rituals each day, every day, non-stop during 25 years.... those 18 rituals times 30 minutes become 9 hours each day that is UNlikely...

This looks amazing. Possession is real people. I have seen someone shapeshifted in front of me when I was in a college classroom. There was a Goth girl that use to sit next to me in class all the time. One day I said something to the professor and she started laughing and that is when her voice and face changed. No one else seemed to notice it. I was generally freaked out and froze in fear. When she saw that I saw what inhabited her body, She then got up and left the classroom. After that she never sat next to me again and started avoiding me. There were times she missed class for days. After that I remembered how odd she use to smell. It wasn't a body odor and she always looked clean and dressed nice in her Goth fashion, but she had an odd odor about her and sometimes it seems as if she had a shadow or an out of focus mist covering her body. Like she was out of focus. Every time she sat next to me I always had to grab my scarf or sweater because I started freezing for some reason. The day that thing popped out of her it all started to make sense to me. Weird stuff started happening in my home for weeks. I was generally freaked the hell out. Its almost like it was mad that it exposed itself to me. I had to blessed my home everyday until most of the weirdness stopped. It never completely went away until we sold that condo. There are unexplained and explained things out here people. The Church knows it and they have the tools to expel most demons and possessed people.

My fingers went numb, I got horrible chills, my heart was raving, I was sweating, I felt like I was the possessed one lol. It was amazing, but too much for me.

I can't stand newer horror films or ones with twist endings, but this was good. I felt there were very few jumpscares at all. I had to plug my ears at one point because the sounds and music was too loud, but I had a good time. Watch it with friends.

I think it's very important to know the real story of Padre Gabriele Amorth before going to see this movie. As I've seen, the movie is inspired by his real life, and there are many interviews with Don Gabriele Amorth, as well as several books he wrote years ago about his ministry. As a Catholic Christian, I can say that I find Monsignor Father Amorth's direct testimony more important. For those who knew him, he was described as a cheerful and witty person, always ready to help others and with great humanity. The film certainly has other objectives, such as being visually striking and intriguing to attract a large number of people to the cinema and earn a lot of money. I sincerely hope that the figure of Father Amorth is faithfully portrayed, but it makes me reflect on the fact that even in the choice of the actor, someone who does not resemble him at all was selected (not to take anything away from Russell Crowe, whom I respect as an actor).

Despite all the fiction and the artificial special effects that a movie require, an exorcism is far beyond imagination without all this pumped up atmosphere, a possessed person can read your mind and your inner secrets. It's very scary, I'm Italian and once I had to witness to an exorcism of a one of my close female friends, and just reminding that I can't sleep with lights off despite more than 20 years passed already and tha fact that I'm around 50's y.o. It's not for weak hearts to be looking at this things. Some exorcisms go quite easily solvable some others are pure hell, for the person involved and relatives expecially. Good day from Italy.

@@GIj349 correction, demons cannot read our minds. But they know what we did and also the secret moves that we have done. They can only assume or read based on our actions. Only God can read our minds.

Sorry M. Reyes but you are wrong. There are demons that can read your thoughts. You can have direct back and forth communication with them, all by thought, using the correct method, which I do not recommend, and will not share. Their end of the communication is a modern day very detailed form of ancient divination. You just have to think thoughts. Ask questions… etc. When A.I. truly comes to fruition amongst all of us, demons will have a powerful tool to influence and control, and worse.

@@wlkthewlkofjc888 Fair enough, please give me a bible verse that supports that. No where can we read that. Besides, the bible always points out that only God knows everything including our hearts. True, they can communicate but they can never read our thoughts. I have heard that many times in exorcists talks. Angels have also their limits like us humans. We should not put them at the same level of power as God.
@wlkthewlkofjc888 Жыл бұрын
@@WithDiamonds778 something in this reality, can read thoughts. I and a few hundred more people have communicated with it. ALL by thought. So if it's not a demon what is it? It reading the mind of an individual seeking to communicate with it does not put it at the level of God. Demon's are localized. God is omnipresent. I understand what you are saying. What looks like mind reading during an exorcism could be the demon(s) calling attention to some past action or event in a person's life... I get that. But the direct communication through thoughts only with "something" that proved itself to have a sinister side is very different... Here's something significant it has told many that if it comes true... 2024 according to it, is the END of America. It stated this in 2018. Based on everything that has happened since then I'm leaning towards believing it, which is utterly horrible.
