Brick work very neat and block work very tidy all in all a very good job but I hate the way you don’t cover up drive muck that your dropping straight on to drive and then walking it in as your laying bricks at least put dust sheet down or tilt cover to protect drive and it looks more professional.
@SteveAndAlexBuild
@SteveAndAlexBuild Жыл бұрын
Thanks Trevor but I’d rather spend and extra half hour tidying up as anything you put down always moves and you end up tripping on it . I can’t afford to trip up as my hips are in a bad way 😩🧱👍🏽

Nice job Steve it will look great when the windows and doors go in. The pride you have for your work has made the best of that porch. I agree with you over the porch angles it is the most cost effective way to do it and looks good when done properly. Really good upload gave a good insight to how tricky a small porch build is good tips for getting gauge and using timber profile’s on small piers and the placement of wall ties ! What a difference a day makes.Just one comment if you Don,t mind.I,m an ex brickie and on a job a long time ago using Accrington reds the architect wanted the same raked out joint.He was a young chap and this was a prestige job in town. When it rained hard the water was blown past the frames and ruined a lot curtains and fittings.After having us go with rebar banging the snots from tie wires he was told he ought to have told us to flush point at least an inch away from frames ,and it worked.As I say he was only a rookie and we liked to see his wife(also an architect) climb our ladders,so our thoughts were elsewhere. I,ve always applied that idea since===mind you they were metal frames so I guess that didn’t help. I,m 84 and then some so i doubt I,ll ever get the chance to try “pick and dip”.It looks weird anyway.

Great job guys as usual, makes a change from watching plumbing videos ( busmans holiday for me) I can see dad is old skool brickie. What really impresses me is how you clean the job up afterwards & during . I was always taught " you can do a fair job & leave it spotless, the customer,er will always remember that" you can do a great job & leave it messy the customer will always remember that. You guys do a great job & leave it spotless 👍 What would be great to see , is the finished job with all the windows in . I think it will compliment your work. Great tip is to buy milwaukee MX 4 sds bits they will outlast those ones you keep buying. I use them for plumbing & Heating & they last ages 👍 BTW where are you guys based ? If ever you fancy a trip to sunny Brighton free accommodation & food I have a lintel job that needs doing at my house. You are the experts in that . Keep up the great work guys, really enjoying your work. Alex you will learn countless experience working with dad, stuff that will always keep you in work in years to come. I'm a young bricky (6 years experience) who has been working for someone new lately, I count up the amount of work done by counting the bricks/blocks in each course, x by how many courses I've done. I count halves as a half, but any other cuts I do I count them as a full block, as it takes more time to cut and lay than a usual block does. These plots we've been building have movement joints everywhere, internal and external. The contractor I book in to keeps refusing to give us a price sheet/lift sheet, so he's told us to count up each brick/block and book in this way. He's come to us and told us we have overbooked significantly, we're both very confident in our numbers. Turns out he's totalled it all up by measuring the job, he will obviously get different numbers than we will if he's counting the 6 cut blocks per course as say 2 blocks (because the measurements will add up different to what's actually there). If I cut a 300mm cut and laid it, that to me is still worth full price as it takes me longer to cut and lay than a full block would, but by measurements, that would be worth 3/4 of the actual price. Which would you consider as correct? Because we're having a dispute about this now as there is 6 internal movement joints and 4 external mj, there is obviously a lot of cuts involved that we're not going to be paid for, not to mention all of the windows and doors, etc.. He and his slow gang of 4 came onto our job for a day and barely laid 500 bricks between them, but they have paid themselves day rate (£200 per day) out of OUR price when they only covered 1 persons wage, that would be the reason why we might have over booked, because he's booked in work he hasn't done and then we've built it and booked it in. Who's right who's wrong? Please give me some insight, I would have taken this to Bricklayers Worldwide on Facebook but we all know how those freaks act.

Dude. Like your vids and all but and it’s a big wobbly butt, how are the fitters going to secure the front door to your opening when they have to put the 45% posts either side? On the windows they can use straps and secure to the inside block but the door doesn’t have those, the block is set too far back.
