The Porsche Cayman's 2 Trunks/Boots are actually More Interesting Than You Think - Here's a long, detailed video explaining why.

There’s a special connector at the fuse panel that is pulled out and used to connect jumper cables in order to pop the front trunk. Also, next time you want to “bump start” your car, use third gear instead of first. The gear ratio of third is more suited to start your car than is first.

I share your enthusiasm for the Cayman and LOVE my 2008 base model. You should add to your knowledge of Cayman secrets with a reading of the secrets of the “frunk” in the owner’s manual. One can actually “jumpopen” the “frunk”.

To open the frunk with a dead battery: go into the fuse box in the drivers footwell, push and release the button with charging bolt graphic on it, that will take the positive jumper cable, put the negative to the door catch, this will give you just enough power to release hood latch.

I wanted to add (because it is very important to me personally) that you can fit a full-sized hardshell acoustic guitar case on top of the engine shelf. Amusing side-note, when these first came out and I thought that some day in the future I'd be able to afford one, I went down to the Porsche dealer in Greenwich CT where a very nice dealer was kind enough to let me see if my guitar would fit. It actually fit leaning against the rear edge of the shelf, but since I now have a 2006 Cayman S, I think the top shelf is a better place.

I just stumbled across your channel with this video and I think you do a great job. You're naturally gifted as a speaker and you definitely have passion for your subject. I have a suggestion for a video. Right now a car that's getting a ton of attention is the new Lotus Emira. From what I know about it it's begging to be compared to a Cayman. Maybe you could be the one to do it.

Good video dude. There are a few 911s with a hatchback! The 993, 996 and 997 Targa models have a hatch that makes accessing the rear storage and seats much easier than a coupe. IMHO that makes it the most practical 911 for a daily driver. As with the Cayman the top adds weight. Some point out that this makes it the least sporting of the 911s. I think it's all about what you want to the car to do. The 911 Targa of those models is the one to get if you want a DD. The new 991 Targa is completely different. Hey What are the little compartments on each side beside the engine cover?

From where I'm from the front is called a bonnet, back is called a boot. Compartment places are called by either 'the front' or 'the back'. Eg: chuck it in the back, pop the bonnet.

Love this guy! Just one comment though. In the UK, and I'm sure other countries, there is a legal requirement to carry a spare tyre, or at least be able to repair it. The repair gunk and compressor is there to avoid the extra weight of a spare tyre whilst still being road legal, not because some non-German guy decided to do some other guy's job.

You can fit a full set of clubs in there if they're in a lightweight cart bag (not a big bulky tour bag etc). You may have to remove the driver and set it beside the bag though, depending on the size of your driver.

Thanks for making a case for hatchback sports cars and NOT sporty wagons. The 2+2 hatchback sports cars are especially gone. We used to be able to choose among several like Porsche 928, 944, Trans Am, Camaro, 3000GT, 300ZX, Celica GTS. That category is now down to only the Audi TT. My perfect daily would be the beautiful Alfa Romeo Brera but it was never brought to the US.

I don’t even push on the logo. It’s too far up and there’s a possibility of denting the hood in. I always push right in the middle directly on the edge. But then fingerprints are also annoying. LoL

The front hood is made of aluminum. If you close the hood by pushing on the Porsche emblem you will eventually dent your hood. There is a pic floating around somewhere illustrating this. I spread five fingers near the center tip of the hood and push down slow and firm.

Another great video! I hope your Cayman has seen the last of its turo.com days, especially with the worry about renters closing the hood on bulging luggage ;-) About the Boxster vs Cayman rigidity: the Boxster was first sold in 1996, and the Cayman was launched 9 years later with the 987 models. The Boxster was designed from the ground up to be structurally rigid and strong, and the chassis and body design and materials are both the same for both Boxster and Cayman. A lot of folks track and race Boxsters, and there are no common issues with rigidity. As PCA member Ronald Vetteron said: "I suspect that for many of us driving these cars........the stiffness and precision of the chassis is more capable than those of us driving the cars.....or said another way, our skills runs out before the chassis becomes a limiting factor". Finally, the Boxster's Center of Gravity is lower than that of the Cayman, because the Boxster's roof mechanism is lighter and lower than the Cayman's heavy metal and glass roof and hatch.

You’re a funny phucker! I appreciate the humor and the info. I am seriously considering a Cayman, and had previously only considered 911’s . It would be awesome if Porsche made the engine exposed under transparent glass, as Ferrari does in some models.

I can attest to the strength of the rear hatch. I was just rear ended by a large truck at 50 miles an hour. My bumper is trashed, the floor of the rear hatch buckled, and I cried. But the engineering prevented the force from hitting the engine, and I walked away safely.

The most efficient use of space in a mid engined car is not the Caymen. That title goes to the Fiat / Bertone X1/9. That car had front and rear boots, a targa roof that fit in the front boot only taking up an inch of space so that you could get things in it with the roof too. And way smaller than the Cayman. It was amazing. Neither my Elise or my Alfa 4c can do that. Nor the Caymen for that matter.

I could fit my Winchester 70 with 26 inch barrel and my 1903A3 in the rear of my Gator. And a shit load of ammo in the frunk. other then a 944, i don't think you can get that kind of storage in any other sportscar. and yes sports car, because I also track mine And i got my tent and camping gear with me as well. Shooting range one weekend, Race track the next.. living la vida loca.

Great video, i really enjoyed your perspective on all the little quirks of the Cayman. Just FYI the blue cap in the truck beside the oil filler is for the windscreen washer fluid, not the coolant. So there is no chance it will spray out all over the place. Please post more videos about the Cayman. I love mine, but like to hear other peoples opinions.
