I almost got chickens so I was researching and I learned about a breed called buff orphingtons? They don't mind being picked up, are very gentle, good layers and are quite large. Well I didn't find a property with enough room or zoned for chickens but I'm ok with going to the farmers market. I do have raised beds and a green house for a few veggies and a lemon tree. My property is tiny bit covered in pine trees and Rhoadedendrens Just enough for me to feel secluded and to putter. I love to grow veggies, I am somewhat limited space wise but I'm happy with whatever I can grow here on the coast. I havent discovered what that is yet. California transplant move in progress.

It’s such a contrast to UK Ireland. Here if you shop food for a month you are hogging supplies, panic buying stockpiling... but watching your video and thinking back to childhood in the 80’s it was normal as there were not so many supermarkets... and then remembering my grandmother- she had a walk in pantry room, a cold room to store jams pickles tonics, stocked floor to ceiling... her own deli:) Same in the States- Lovely life you are both making there- not a bad place to quarantine. Stay safe and well .

Great job with the garden lights. Looks really nice. Damn that's a LOT of food!!!! I have checked my food supplies and they currently consist of pasta, tins of tuna and rice! Thank heavens I can eat plain pasta with olive oil for breakfast, lunch and supper and never get tired of it! The chickens look awesome and I'm very jealous of their chicken coop. :)

Nice to see you are able to live off your land, it doesn’t appear (I’ve watched the quarantine diaries) you had the shortages of basics we had here in the US during the initial lockdown. Luckily, I paid attention to all the life lessons my Italian Gram taught me and I had a back stock of all the basics and a second freezer in the basement so I only had to grocery shop every 3.5 weeks during those scary first months last year. So happy that your family did well and you didn’t suffer the atrocities the northern part of Italy unfortunately did!

Stair lights! That is brilliant!! You know, in case of a zombie apocalypse I think your house would be a great place to be. Zombies might fall down from Montepertuso but most of the rumble would be downstairs from you. You could easily survive for a very long time solely on the produce from your garden if needed. Also, no huge risk of catching a virus thanks to being quite far away from everything!

The garden lights are a lovely addition, well done Carlo! The hens looked so tame and it is interesting to see the reactions of the other animals at your house. I appreciate the pantry, garden and greenhouse tour, besides being a good reminder to check my food supply, it's so interesting to see such a different life than mine. I started a very, very small garden last year and am in awe at the systems you and your family have in place in regards to growing so much of your own food. It's really a wealth of knowledge to know when and what to plant and how to take care and store it. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow to fortify my stores, just in case, mostly because you reminded me I'm low on chocolate. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Holly I'm Carlo, Thanks a lot for the comment, I'm really sorry, probably we humans shouldn't give the human name, to our animal friends, maybe many of us don't have enough imagination to create other new non-human names? or do we really choose them on purpose to feel them more human because we like them like this? who knows? anyway, I hope you don't find it offensive, and you should know that I would not mind at all to know that there is a dog named around the world. Translated with Google, I hope so clear!

@@NickiPositano Why not? He loves you. I have never seen anyone picking on a cat not to love. I've watched that cat. He's not attacking anyone. I have friends I love even though their personalities are less than perfect!! And, they can't be trained!!! Not My Cat is made to feel not wanted through no fault of his own. I have never know anyone to make a point of not loving an animal by giving him the name Not My Cat. You treat your new chickens better than Not My Cat. You give your chickens names. Let's face it, cats have more brains than a chicken. When your chickens escape, no big deal. Not My Cat has his likes and dislikes. Just like all of us. I think ALL animals are better than almost all people. I sign worldwide petitions, so I know what I am talking about. So what if he has a home elsewhere. Obviously, the situation there is not as wonderful as your home. Give him a name, and make him feel like a loved member of the family. Otherwise, find him a home where he will be loved.

Hav u ever tried this soup?:......Each quantity to taste: corn, yellow squash, Italian parley (small amt- as it gives strong flavor) regular parsley, green pepper, potato, onion, garlic,--- salt & pepper to taste NO PASTA- NO beans (it gives another flavor to soup). We, Latinos have it as main noon meal-(except instead of potato, we have Yucca (is it sold in Italy?).It makes a thick soup We also put in soup meat to cook first- but if one is vegetarian, leave it out.
@NickiPositano4 жыл бұрын
Hi Allat, I'm Carlo, no I have never eaten this soup, which I have no doubts must be very good, but something very similar, the one I ate is missing some ingredients compared to yours, no yucca is not sold in this area, or at least I don't know it, I can't say in the rest of Italy.
@allatgoddess89614 жыл бұрын
I put a Latin Amer. Sancocho recipe below. Don't be tempted to put in thyme or marjoram or any other Old World spices, or beans or pasta. No olive oil- (it gives a different flavor) - no carrots or tomatoes (the yellow squash will give the color) That would change the taste. I suppose you would like to have a different flavor dish, sometime. Yuca or Malanga of Lat. Amer. is another name for Cassava of Afr. or Manioc. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassava
