I knew Gary and Maureen for years when I lived in Rawcliffe they are lovely and I have fond memories of them and loved Garry's stories and jokes. Gary was the first person I told other than family when my son was born as I went into the post office at 6 am after a long night to get some magazines for my partner for when I returned to the hospital. He came round from the counter shook my hand and embraced me and told me I would love every minute of it - that's the kind of guy he is. When we moved from the village in 2012 I took a few bottles of wine around as a thankyou for all their hard work. I never knew any of this was going on, it's so sad to hear what they had to endure.

I know Gary & Maureen and I know it was a great loss to a small village when they had to close . They had worked hard to build up a shop & post office . I also now work in a post office myself and I still to this day do not trust the horizon system . Every day you know your money should be spot on and the dread of doing the cash declaration or balance periodd & trading period its enough to tip you over the edge . You can count every penny & notes over and over , and get different amounts once you put it in to the system .and people's first thoughts are ..well it must be you , you have done something you will find the money !! But imagine it being a computer at fault and trying to prove that . And if anything should happen what you know isn't your fault , you don't get much help you are told it must be you and you need to find the mistake . I also had no training !! I have had to learn myself and after 3 years I'm still learning .

Thank you for those kind words (who ever you are) only a PO worker will know the stresses of balancing when you have no idea what will happen, I used to feel sick on every balancing day.

Thank you for this comment. It’s interesting to hear your current perspective. Would you talk to us please with a view to doing an interview? We could just make an audio recording if it proceeds, so you’re not seen. If you’re interested you can contact us on admin@myonrecord.com Jill

That sounds terrible and clearly way too stressful. Jill

very powerful and emotional video. Always have your own recording of these interactions. I usually suggest getting your own MP is a good idea because it is their job to do so. Your MP sounds like a waste of space.

My MP is as you say a waste of space, the only thing he is good at is having his photo in the local paper

This is gobsmacking. The unbelievable torment these lovely people have been put through by others who I could honestly believe would have signed up for Hitler’s SS in a heartbeat. I've been watching the Inquiry and it is infuriating watching those responsible saying over and over “I don't recall” or “I didn't ask questions”. TV is lucky not to have a hole in the screen! I sincerely hope Gary and Maureen are royally compensated for their financial losses, but I know that will never make up for the inhumane treatment they have suffered at the hands of Vennells et Al. Bless them both.
