In the last episode in the series, we delve into the early moments after the player walks out on to the pitch for the first time as their true authentic self.
Footballers face abuse everyday. Whether it's on social media or chants from the crowds, teams would need to come together both on and off the field to support their fellow players.
Will a player ever be confident enough to come out? We hope so.

The chanting thing: people forget how young players are, a lot of them are still teenagers, they don't have the life skills or experience to handle this kind of public scrutiny. Think back to all the stupid stuff you did and said when you were 19, and now imagine that there's a permanent record of it online! And imagine being 19 and having thousands of people chanting disgusting things at you... it's hard...

How to deal with fan abuse from the crowds: Easy, welcome their hate. FDR said a great quote along the lines of “they are unanimous in their hatred for me and I welcome their hatred”. Have that attitude, focus on the pitch, players and ball and ignore it. If you respond to them you give them exactly what they want which is attention. Silence and mild kindness to even your most vile and vitriolic enemies is the ultimate form of humility, honour and grace and will earn you nothing but respect even from your enemies.

I don’t know you as a person but I’d like to think you can understand that words can affect people differently. You might be able to brush it off but others may struggle with it. Especially if they suffer with certain mental health issues, as words can deeply impact how one feels about themselves.

My father stood up to fans at Cardiff to tell them to stop swearing and being racist cause me and my brother was there and we were kids . No one else had the bottle to say anything . So these same people that moan and complain are the same reason this happens because no one stands up to stop it and when someone brave enough does they’re in a 50 on 1 situation and no one ( the liberals ) help in the actual moment they talk big like in this video but never say anything in the actual situation.

Not surprising about the chelsea fan being banned for 3 years over homophobic abuse. As there's an issue there as Chelsea's Chelsea Pride will tell you. As they received homophobic comments indirectly from their then Chair of the Chelsea supporters Group. David Johnstone. Who also edits the Chelsea Fanzine. He still indirectly harasses Athletic Journalist Dan Levene. Just because some Chelsea fans complained to him about this homophobe. And Dan, was brave enough to challenge him.

Mindfulness makes no sense in this context. What were the filmmakers doing? They've made him look a right rodney plonker. Unless he's critiquing mindfulness as a concept i.e. minfulness practitioners are idiots. Perhaps he's dismissing football fans ability to practise mindfulness i.e. they're not mindfulness geniuses. Maybe I'm over thinking this. To make a long story short...too late! Who knows? Who cares?

I don’t understand the need to come out to fans or the media 🤷🏼‍♂️ Team mates maybe depending on the relationships you have in the dressing room but it’s nobody else’s business. The abuse is one thing but being made a poster boy for an entire community in the largest sport in the world is a completely other kettle of fish especially in leagues like the premier league where the whole world is watching.
@gunnyo50
@gunnyo50 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, there no need for a professional premier league player to come out as a homosexual. Football in a lot of countries especially in the UK is intense, fanatical, traditional followings. I don't won't any player at any team coming out as gay as that will be a major distraction for both the player and his club he plays for. These guys want to push for something that realistically isn't going to bode well for any footballer's career.

@@gunnyo50 Don’t get me wrong it’s their choice but like you say it adds unneeded attention and distractions from the media and everyone else not only on the player but on the team I don’t think any player would want to come out for that reason as well as many others. A lot of people seem to think it’s abuse that people don’t wanna come out but in my experience it’s the fact that it’s not something you ever find the need to declare to everyone 😅

@Clemente In my opinion none of it belongs in Football why does it? It’s none of our business and I also think it would be distracting because we’ve made such a fuss about sexuality that everyone seems to think they have to have an opinion on it. Let me ask you this why do you want to know the sexuality and personal life of a player? I personally don’t see any interest in it whatsoever and I can’t honestly think why someone would find it interesting or relevant to Football.
