After watching the first 3 and a half minuyes, I fiddled around with the C diad, tried inverting, messed up, and somehow taught myself how to play "Hey There Delilah." Thanks, Mark

Power Chords. My favorite. I also love octave chords in that you play the root and octave notes together. The first person I remember hearing power chords and octave chords on bass is Ryan Martini from Mudvayne on there first album, LD50. And it would cut through the guitars and make them sound bigger. Ryan Martini and Cliff Burton are my two influences for picking up the bass.

Mark that song Smoke on the Water was badass when it first came out . I thought how cool is this song. Drums tapping away , guitar jamming , bass thumping , I thought I was in heaven when I was younger and turned up the volume when the song came on.

another thing you can do on the 3 note power chords on the A or D string is to put the open string for example if you play an E power chord on the A string add the open E really gives it a nice bass sound to the chord
@klx400sr693 жыл бұрын
and could even add the E on the G string

Classic use of bass power chords is John Paul Jones on the verses of Heart Breaker. There's a bass isolation video on youtube that displays it well.

Hey Mark... Another great video... can you do a series with a 5 string bass?
@talkingbasslessons9 жыл бұрын
+Jason PushLife Cheers Jason. I generally try to stay away from 5 strings on the lessons simply to keep it more accessible. But I am thinking about doing some specific 5 string lessons.

+TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons I would really like that... I have learned a lot from your teaching style! Thank you.

I really like this lesson! I've been doing a lot of power chord playing lately, especially in music by Les Claypool (namely Primus tunes). Speaking of which, I remember something you said in one of your previous lessons about doing a video on Les Claypool/Primus stuff. Do you have any idea of when we might expect to see it? I'm really looking forward to learning some more about his technique and music in general from my favorite bass teacher. :D

+EC_2727 I've got a Top 5 Tougher Slap Riffs (or something like that) coming out soon in which I'll be running through Tommy The Cat. But I'll be covering more Les stuff soon.

TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons Excellent! I can't wait to tune in. :D
Dropped D tuning (or equivalent if you’re half step or full step down). Thumb the root note on the Dropped D string, and play the power chord an octave above it on the D and G strings while muting the A string with your thumb or fingers. Thank me later.
@johnfollis23572 жыл бұрын
Or even better, use the open dropped D-string and fret the 5th-fret on the A-string with your 1st-finger, and bar the 7th-fret on the D and G strings with your 4th-finger. Then I tend to do one of a few things with the picking hand. I use the PIMA finger picking method for a soft ballad, I may rake the strings down with my thumb and/or up with the index finger, or for a very hard and rocky way, I may strum all four strings with my fingers. And I mean all four fingers including the pinkie. So for that I just simply try to line up all four fingers (index, middle, Ring, and Pinkie) on the picking hand, and I just strum through with the finger nails. This also works if you just happen to be strumming a 4-note major or minor bar chord on all four strings. I do that some times during practice. I know. I am a bit crazy.

Help me please, i'm playing in a power trio band, and i'm looking for some ways to fill the missing of a second guitar with my bass, like guitar solo moments, there is any way i could do that without spending much money in pedals?
@Viper-dz2kw6 жыл бұрын
lucas boldarini use distortion or drive, then play chords, the distortion will take a small bit of bass out of your tone but the chords will add it back and add a more rhythm guitar sound that is big and mean sounding

So you have a tutorial for the slap bass intro all your videos have?
@talkingbasslessons9 жыл бұрын
+L-MAN Duderino Someone else asked about that. I'll do one soon. I just improvised a bunch of slap licks and picked the least crappy one! I'll have to transcribe it and do the lesson.

Should be fine if I hold down the power chord with my 1st and third finger right? That's how I do it on guitar
@johnfollis23572 жыл бұрын
You can on the higher frets. But on the lower frets, it is usually better to hold down the power chord with the 1st and 4th fingers of the fretting hand.
