Performative leadership is where leaders do what they think "leaders should do". They act the part, say (hopefully) the right things, and push the team to generate.
But it's ultimately ineffective. It's based in fear, feelings, and "fronts". It's guarded, focused on the leader themselves, and doesn't leave much space for the human component of leadership.
Authentic leadership, on the other hand, is one of conscious choice. It's where leaders choose to practice authenticity, vulnerability, and intimacy with the people that they lead.
They readily admit that they don't have all the answers, they take full ownership when they mess up, and when they have beef with someone, they share it with them because they care more about the team succeeding than they do avoiding a slightly uncomfortable conversation.
Authentic leadership is inspiriting and human centric. It allows people to see themselves in the people who lead them, and leaves them feeling energized to go above and beyond.
Imagine a world where authentic leadership was the norm.
Now how can you play your part in that?
