In this demo I go over materials I use for glazing. I show you some different ways to use glazing to create depth and surface, in acrylic paintings.

Hi Alison, I enjoyed this video. Even though I have taken many courses with you I learned more and reviewed some facts in this video. I find that I really need to listen carefully to you, because there are little gems of information you you casually deliver. They can be missed if I am not paying attention!

Very useful. As others have said your vids are inspirational. Easy to write, but very much meant. I was heading in the glazing direction and there are a raft of techniques which you have explained here. I am going to attack some of my more vibrant peieces. Also ordering the gum - seems like it might be seriously addictive! Best R

Hi Alison, Thank you for explaining layering and your openness in sharing your process. I paint mostly with acrylics on canvases/wood panels (both abstract and non-abstract), and it is interesting to learn that you find painting on papers give you those different cropped images. Do you use canvases/wood panels for other purposes? Do you find papers (vs canvases) behave differently or favourably with water medium arts? It seems that papers might have 'added' benefits that I am not aware of.

Hi Grace-- I do like to paint on heavy paper, prepped with gesso on both sides, partly because it can be cropped and loosens up the feeling of needing to build a strong composition in a specific dimension. Also the gessoed (and ungessoed) paper handles water media well. I also paint on wooden cradles canvases.

I enjoyed this video and I appreciated the step by step glazing process. Your work is absolutely beautiful! Do you have a step by step video on how you created your water painting which you briefly explained at the end of the video. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!

Hi Celine-- I don't have a full video of the creation of that water painting. It was a long process of layering, but I mostly used the techniques I demonstrate in this video.

Hi Alison, love your videos!!! I have a question on your finished painting where you use watercolour paper. Once the painting is completed what do you use as a platform to mount it on? Thank you Alison.
@alisonwatt8570
@alisonwatt8570 2 жыл бұрын
You can glue it to a wooden cradle--cut the paper, leaving 1/4" inches all around bigger than the cradle. Apply white glue (or acrylic medium) really well to the cradle--be sure to get it out to all the edges and corners. Place the paper on the cradle, centre it, and weigh it down with heavy books (make sure the weight is applied to the whole thing.) I use bricks in my demo, in the video Cropping, Mounting and Matting.

Do you ever use the drawing gum over areas you want to keep as is, before another layer goes on? Love your istructions.
@alisonwatt8570
@alisonwatt8570 11 ай бұрын
Hi. I often use drawing gum to protect layers underneath. It's important not to keep the paint on top thin or it will be hard to remove the gum
