I love to hear the words of a true prophet. President Benson was one of my many favorites. They are all men whom the LORD has prepared for the last days. Respect for President Benson.

President Benson is best known for his efforts to awaken us to the importance of liberty and the Book of Mormon. This talk, however, on why and how to pray, explains for me how and why he became a true prophet of God. Its counsel was important in 1977, but today in 2024, it's critical to receiving the personal revelation that President Nelson has stated we require to make it through this end times period before the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Who is the LORD that you mention?

The Lord I mention is the Son of God, and Jesus Christ is just one of the many names by which He is known to those who follow Him.

I met President Benson when I was 14 years old. I shook his hand and felt this almost electrical energy from his handshake. Immediately in my heart I was told he is a prophet of God.

It's simply the BEST talk on prayer ever given that we have access to today. While others exist, the Church has sadly chosen not to release them to the public.

The word "grateful" does not appear in the BOM, yet we hear it a lot in our Meeting Houses.
@stevebrown88076 ай бұрын
Pretty sure you can find the word Gratitudel throughout the scriptures.
@TheWordsofChrist6 ай бұрын
You are correct that the word "Gratitude" does not appear at all in scripture. However, the word "Goodness," for example, appears repeatedly: 42 times in the Old Testament, 6 times in the New Testament, and 30 times in the Book of Mormon. The words "thank" or "give thanks" are also found repeatedly throughout scripture, more so than the word "Goodness." On a more significant note, I don't know what has happened in your life to cause you not to see the importance of gratitude. In times when being grateful was a challenge for me, it was during periods of serious hardship. Perhaps the same is true for you as well. I want you to know that going to the Lord in prayer, expressing your feelings openly and honestly without holding back, can work miracles. The reason we hear about the importance of gratitude during Sunday services is that being grateful is key to finding Christ. Personally, when I lacked gratitude in the past or did not have a thankful heart, it was because I could not see Him in my life and felt abandoned. In reality, I had drifted away from Him and needed to repent or change. I approached the Lord with a willing heart, and He did the rest. It wasn't easy, but I was tired of feeling alone and hurt, and I knew that life was so much better with Christ in my life.

The principle of gratitude is one of the most frequent principles in the BoM, but it is expressed with the word "remember." Remember what the Lord has done, remember how He delivers those who keep His commandments, etc. It is slightly more complex than mere gratitude because it implies both thankfulness and trust in God's goodness and power. It is richer, deeper, and more meaningful than just a momentary emotion

Which part of President Benson's talk do you find to be false? He was truly a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ Andy had a burning testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith. The restore Gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift that the Lord has given to man In these latter days. It started as a small seed and has grown into a mighty tree, who's branches spread across the world and whose fruit brings healing to the nations. You have nothing to show but your false accusation, which you don't even care to defend. n@@MaurineBeatty-sr5yc
