I think avoiding the compatibility question speaks volumes on the root of the matter. I'll explain. Fundamentally, Islam is not built upon concepts of democracy, liberalism etc. Rather it is revelations passed down from Allah s.w.t (God) to the prophet Muhammad pbuh (through angel gabriel), compiled together as the Quran. The position of homosexuality in Islam is clearly and umambigiously mentioned in the Quran, in the verses of Lut a.s. Read that and even consult scholars, you will find that homosexuality is a deemed as a sin. That being said, you can still be Muslim and queer! But that doesn't exclude you from indulging in sin. Muslims should tolerate if you realise that. We only object to that is clearly opposed to the Quran and Hadith.
