I'm really sad that the country I was born and raise in, has become the state that it is in now. I grew up with western cartoons, video games and culture. Many of us do. And inevitably, late night shows and satire/comedy. I find it refreshing that witty comedians/hosts can make fun and criticise their gov and policies. We have a word for them in SG, we call them complainers. But if you care to really listen, you realize that it is thru criticism, feedback (alternatively voices if you will) that we can grow, improve and be better. And most people who 'complain' really love our country and genuinely wants SG to improve.

Under the guise of crushing "communism", the British imposed heavy restrictions on human rights in 1948. Both in Malaya (what is now West Malaysia) and Singapore. Those laws are still on books even today. The British washed their hands of any responsibility back then and they are doing the same thing as the CCP steals Hong Kong's freedom.
