India's a funny country, fraught with problems both ecological and social yet making leaps and bounds. Some parts of their culture are incredibly beautiful and moving but there are some aspects of their culture that are unforgivably disgusting. I hope they sort these problems out, I know people in "western" countries give Indians a bad wrap due to a lot of local jobs getting outsourced and the odd call center (scam or not) interruption at dinner or during your favorite TV show. But rather then hate Indians and wish them ill, you need to realize those things only happen due to their dire circumstances. Western based companies only outsource labor for cheap, becasue the pittance companies offer as a wage is a veritable bounty to the average Indian. If their opportunities increase the Indian peoples quality of life expectations will rise. To me the ultimate sign of success would be in 50 years the average Indian is as spoiled and demanding as an Aussi or a Yank. Having the power to ask for more money from there multinationals. As at now though I don't think many Indians would risk asking for a raise as what they are given lets them live relatively well and it's best not to risk that. If "social entrepreneurship" can make this social shift then it should be looked in to and considered. "Social Entrepreneurship" is the epitome of true commerce. Find a need, develop a product or service and negotiate a fair reasonable price that suits the needs and goals of both the company and the client. In fact my only problem with the term is that I think the "social" part of the term is redundant. I believe this is JUST plain old fashioned entrepreneurship the social aspect is irrelevant. All companies meet needs and wants just becasue the need is dire doesn't mean it's magically social. Saveing babies can be bussiness, everybody wants to save babies their own and others. Make a product that lets them do it cheap and then negotiate a good fair price and of course you will make money. Food producers make hungry people not hungry (well some of the time) for a price every day and no one considers them social. The world's global now and greedy corporate interest is here to stay. Because of that they will exploit the misfortune of other regions and countries that will labor for super cheap. Other countries problems are undeniably your problems now. People should be helping India and other less fortunate countries create wealth (not in the form of handouts though). If they can create their own wealth they don't need to take ours (ideally).
